“ The staff was very helpful and pleasant. They are always willing to address issues, questions or concerns that we had. We rented 2 rooms and a/c in one of the rooms was not working well. We called front desk and they immediately attend to the issue. We were given another room with good a/C. ”

Beach area is clean and well maintained and literally less than forty feet from the hotel. Staff were friendly. First three days of my arrival the hotel was doing some maintenance in one of the rooms that was below mine. Though signs were available advising of the work, the constant hammering made it uncomfortable to stay within the room. Not sure why I was placed in that room if they knew of the location of the construction room. When I contacted the receptionist they simply apologized for the disturbance. Hotel also needs to be refurbished as it has no elevator, hot water was not consistently available and electricity failed twice during my visit. Note that public transportation is also unreliable to the capital during certain days and times. E.g. I had to wait for two hours on Sunday to get transport to head to the capital.

After four days living in the forest and going hiking every day, me and my fiancée were dreaming of staying in a beautiful and confortable room in front of the sea...We were quite disappointed with the room..too rustic for our expectations and for quality/price!!! The first room we tried had a nice view of the sea and a little balcony to sit on, there were no glass windows only shutters, a very bad internet connection, the mini fridge wasn't working, the kitchen wasn't equiped, no saucepans, dishes or cutlery and above all no gas cylinder to use the hob.. the air conditioner was very old and noisy and it was more or less clean (with some hair on the WC...).. The hotel wasn't so what we really expected it to be. The staff was friendly and willing to assist us (after having called the manager to solve the problems) but I had to impose myself. So we got a second room: fortunately there was a better internet connection, but not more view of the Ocean, a modern air conditioning system and the security man made the effort to collect sauce pans and gas bottle..I pretended having a working kitchen because after reading on booking.com that there was one in the room, we went shopping, and so we wanted to cook something at the Italian style just for that evening.. Will we stay here again? I don't think so.. The Portsmouth Beach Hotel is not more a hotel for tourists...it is a "dormitory" for Ross University students with no facilities.

This place is an old dormitory for students which is sold as a hotel to the customer. It's way overpriced! The AC is antique and louder than a truck, the shower didn't work properly, we had to ask for towels and the TV remote control, the gas stove didn't work either and worst of all, hotel and restaurant staff are not friendly at all which is very unusual for Dominica.
