The major disappointment was something that the owners cannot do anything about: the beach. With a north eastern aspect, it was exposed to strong and generally chilly winds throughout the day, the water was much colder than we are used to in other Caribbean locations (very few people summoned up the courage to go in), there was plenty of seaweed on the sand and in the water, and the exhaust fumes from the speedboats were constantly blown onshore. Overall I would rate the beach experience as only 2/10 compared to e.g. Dover Beach or Mullins Beach in Barbados, and for this reason we would think hard before returning. If you could put this resort on those beaches, it would be fabulous! We also found the wi-fi in the room to be very unreliable. I suspect this is something to do with the routers around the property as the reception in Reception was perfect. As expected, the resort credits turned out to be a myth: they aren't freebies as such, but merely a means of reducing the exorbitant price of things (e.g. $80 off a $300 massage!).
We found that the resort was pretty much as described by previous reviewers, with the exception that we didn't have any difficulty communicating in English with the staff, who were all very pleasant. We normally rent an apartment in Barbados at this time of year but, as our kids are now 4 and nearly 3 and demanding constant entertainment, this year we thought we would try an all-inclusive resort with lots of things for them to do. From that perspective it was a great success. They absolutely loved the main water park for youngsters (as opposed to Pirates Island, which does appear to be an enormous white elephant), the toddlers pool near the restaurants, the Kids Club, the mini-golf and even the pool room in the sports bar. I imagine that if we return here in future we will also get great use out of the football pitch and the golf course. Having read about the size of the resort we decided to take their balance bikes and scooters so they could roar around. They collapsed exhausted into bed every night. The room was fine, and the buffet food very good, with good variety and quality. I can't comment on the a la carte restaurants as we didn't venture into them. The alcohol and coffee was pretty ordinary but that didn't really bother us. The towel service worked well and there were plenty of recliners. We didn't have any difficulty with checking in or out, even though the resort was full.
