This was my first experience with an all-inclusive resort, and I've really mixed feelings about it. The food was plenty, but mediocre. The staff were friendly enough, but less than helpful, because there were SO MANY PEOPLE. The check-in process was a nightmare, similar to boarding a cruise, only less organized. And the pools all close at 6pm.
But the the two things that upset me the most: NO shuttles into town, or any of the tourist attractions, only expensive cabs or tour packages. The whole point of the place seemed to be about keeping you away from the 'real' DR.
Secondly, the Internet cost US$25 per day! That could feed a Dominican family for a month, and made me feel even more decadent. Not only that, but it was keyed to your MAC address, so you had to pay $50 if you wanted it on your phone and your laptop. Disgraceful.
Within walking distance to a movie theater that offered movies from the US, subtitled in Spanish. However, there was NO Dominican culture that close.
