The resort did a great job considering it's size. It's well run and well organised. The facilities are excellent. A great place for young families wanting an easy and relaxing break.
Our bathrooms were old and in need of major shower repairs. Broken safety bar and leaky shower. Needed repairs but was clean for its ratty condition. Otherwise everything else in our room was great.
The staff made me go print my reservation although I gave them my reservation number. So I had to pay for Internet just to print my reservation!
The WiFi was down for two days and once it was working the connection was really poor.
Location and facilities
- Nice beach - Cleanliness
- Poorly maintained facilities. Just in the bathroom: shower head came off while showering! Leak from the ceiling. - Lack of maintenance is scary...Elevators are failing! Another couple got trapped inside - No internet even on lobby - Both quality of food and service at the buffet were terrible. - Beach towels are only allowed to be changed once a day. - Super slow process of check in and check out. No one knows what is going on at the Frontdesk - Spa: no bathrobes available, sauna and jacuzzi cold and really over scented with mint. My wife got actually sick from the combination.
The beach is gorgeous. The pool area is very nice.
Food is mediocre at best. Drinks are awful. Their Dominican draft beer is good but if you don't drink beer, you're out of luck. They have cheap Dominican liquors and really bad wine (only two- red and white). They do have hidden Stoli- just ask for it. First, upon check in we stood in a 25 minute line to be told that we had three rooms reserved (I originally booked 2 rooms through booking.com but cancelled one a week prior- well before the deadline). They also had the incorrect room rate (course course pricier than the rate that was quoted for me). Luckily I had my phone with the confirmation emails of the accurate prices. When sent to our room it was disgusting. The shower was filthy. The toilet handle had something on it. The safe was broken as were all of the dresser and desk drawers. The lamp had holes in the glass lamp shade. Over my dead body was I going to sleep in that room. I called the front desk and explained what I had seen and they said "hold please" mad I heard the man on the other end clearly say, "it'd an American complaining" which I have a feeling they are quite used to. The second room which was "upgraded" for our inconvenience was about 5 minutes closer to the center of the resort and had a small view of the ocean. It was much cleaner and had functioning drawers and an operable safe. It still could have used to be cleaned- water stains on the counters, a dirty glass shower pane and stains on the wall. Then the front office broke the news that everyone needed a "reservation" to eat in the Japanese, Mexican, Italian, or Dominican restaurants. We could not get a reservation upon checkin (making a reservation ended at 3:00pm) so we would have to eat in the American Buffet (which we were warned was gross). Making these reservations was very challenging and frustrating seeing that we were playing for an all inclusive restaurant. We clearly needed a drink after that so went to the bar.
Animation team was good The hotel is big with lots of bars and restaurants
Money exchange was at the front desk and on sundays it's closed . the check-out line up is always huge. The beach was a full of weeds. Half the beach chairs were broken
The activities, pools, bars, shops, restaurants. Most things excluding hotel rooms.
Poor choice of alcohol and hotel rooms. The first room we were assigned to had so many problems we couldn't stay in it. The second only had a major leak over toilet.
I spent a week in Barcelo Punta Cana with my wife and I can only describe my experience as terrible. I have traveled several times for vacations on all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean and this was by far my worst experience. My stay was from Dec 27 to Jan 3rd 1) Problem with accommodations: I had booked a room with one king size bed and it was delivered a room with single beds. I asked to change rooms but no one in the reception wanted to help. I had to spend the week sharing a single bed with my wife. When we arrived the reception was full and it took over 1 hour to check-in. Every time you tried to go to the reception to ask for information or request something it took over than 1 hour, due to the amount of people wanting to complain. Whenever you call the reception to ask something, they´ll say you need to go to the reception in person and hang up the phone. 2) Room cleaning: In the seven days we stayed there, they didn’t change towels and bed sheets not even once. Even though I requested them to change it every day. 3) Restaurant Reservations: You need to stay in line for over an hour every morning to make reservations for the restaurants. This needs to be done before 7AM, at 8AM all restaurants are fully booked. You can only make reservations for the restaurant on the same day, so this needs to be done every day. Why cant we plan our reservations in advance and do this only one time? 4) Employees: This is what bothered me the most, the way the employees treat you. I have never had such bad experience in a hotel. Whenever you order a drink in a restaurant or ask for something (like forks and spoons) they´ll say “Ok sir, I´ll bring you in just a minute”, then they´ll turn their back and never return.
Location and good beach.
All restaurants were fully booked from the check in day. Not enough sun beds Disappointing selection at the buffet, if you were not there when they opened at 7pm, some food was gone by 8pm.
The beach of the hotel is beautiful and wide with clear water, and they provide enough beach chairs. Also, there are a lot of palm trees on the beach, so you can get some shadow when needed. The hotel also offers activities for free, like kayaking and sailing.
Definitely the food of the main buffet, El Alcazar, is poor, especially for dinner. It will be the only option for the breakfast and lunch, but for dinner try to make reservations for the different restaurants they have in the hotel, for sure you will have a better food. The bad thing related to the restaurants, is that every day you have to get a considerable line early in the morning to make the reservation, otherwise you will get a spot for dinner at 6 pm that is not nice when you are on vacation. For 2 days we had to wait for more than 3 hours to get beach towels
We enjoyed the aminities and location.
HORRIBLE check-in! Slow registration process...Our room was not ready when we checked-in. We were not assigned a room until 90 mins after we checked in and paid for our stay. Once we arrived at our room, the cleaning staff were still mopping our floors. Worst part was they did not supply us with towels. Two celaning crew promised to have our towels in 10 minutes which did not happen. I went to the registration desk after 3 hours of waiting and was told they have problems in the Laundry Department. Our towels did not arrive our room until past 11:00PM. Availability of beach towels are also a problem. MUST bring your own towels if you plan to stay at Barcelo Premium. Food was average. Nothing special! Paid for wi-fi and have problems connecting in our room. We had to step out to the balcony to get decent connection.
Everything but the beach
The food, the services, the ambience
bad food and drinks. Rundown facility. Poor customer service.
The staff were friendly and tried to speak English. The beach was perfect. Wish there was service outside but it is a help yourself resort. A/C worked well. The bottle of water and 3 sodas are replaced once a day in your mini bar.
The rooms were especially bad. Rust, mold, stains. Bathrooms need redecorating badly. Slowest check in I have ever had. Simply not enough front desk staff for that number of guests in one resort.
Staff were friendly and I want to thank personally Miguel at the front desk he really was professional.
Check in was at 3.pm I got my room at 5.30 pm After I took my shower I realized that there were no towels. I took the phone to call the front desk. Phone wasn't working. I dried my self with a shirt and I went to the front desk to report the problem. I report it four times no body fixed my issue. The sink and the shower sink were clogged. Most of the employees dealing with the food without gloves even they have a Servsafe certification hanging at the front desk. I reserved 7 nights and I checked out the 3rd day in the morning. I'm a hotel general manager in Orlando Florida and trust me the guest satisfaction is our priority. I reserved this hotel because of the name but it was a bad experience as I have to deal with the hotel problems instead of enjoying my vacation.
The staff was really nice bartenders activities staff also they always had a smile
Over the weekend the hotel.was filled with locals who on a regular basic I don't mind but they were rude to the staff it was hard for you to get a area at the pool they. Had no regulars for the facilities it was a constant struggle for food towels etc the entertainment thought it was good was the same thing over and and over
Friendly staff Clean rooms Clean beach Fun water activities Good food especially breakfast Drinks Lovely dining experience
Wifi was not free and difficult to connect Loud dj and music by the pool. The music could have been less loud
The scenery and the people. Though most of the staff cannot speak English Their doing their job very good.
The facilities need to improve the entire sorrounding especially on every hall way to create a very relaxing outmosphere. Make the sorrounding more brighter and facinating.Should put more ceiling fan to feel comfort and not sweating all the time. Lastly, the food is not truly that great. Nothing special to savor, except for some native fruit like Guava. But if you want more people to come back and recommend the resort to other people then, the resort need lots ot improvement to do. But overall the resort is not so bad for the price you will pay.
everything top very nice hotel thanks to manager miguel for giving me room with sea view
- The food - The entertainment
- The way the staff handled clients - The fact that in order to get my room cleaned I had to be out all day until 6pm - misrepresentation of the hotel claiming that they speak English, they should have said they try to speak as little English as possible because that made it hard for us to try to get anything done. - the shopping centers, I thought transportation was free yet a taxi charged us on our last day and he doesn't speak English. I hated going to the shopping center because of the pressure people put on you to purchase snd/or come to the store and their attitudes were not favorable when you said no. That is no form of security
The white sand beach and blue sea
-room never replenished -broken toilet -food poisoninig -clogged public restrooms -none responsive management -terrible food
If will be good for the staff to learn a couple of words in the language that guess speaks and to smile more
