Score from 60 reviews Very good
Good restaurant, close to the city center and to the beach. Close to good restaurant area.
Lots of mosquitos in the room. For a solo traveler, you have to be careful when walking from the main road to the hotel, is a little isolated to walk it at night, can be unsafe.
Friendly staff, excellent breakfast and dinner, quiet location.
300metres of potholed rain filled road to get there. a bit of tarmac would help a lot!
It was close to the beach, had a beautiful courtyard, food and bar was nice
It advertised that the staff spoke English, which wasn't true. Service wasn't great - for example, they took but didn't replace our towels one day. Also advertised free wi-fi throughout property, though it only worked in the check-in and restaurant area.
Mauricio and his staff ! Very helpful when needed invisible when not. Made some new friends for life.
Hotel La Tortuga was the best place we stayed in during our trip. Nice, spacious bungalows. Beautiful garden with swimming pool was a great relax point. Location is ideal, 5 min on foot from the beach and 10 from the city centre. Hotel restaurant is excelent, everythink we ordered was delicious.
Everything was perfect.
The internet worked and is included
I do not get the current rating of 8,5 here. 1. The pool in the middle is in fact a big breeding place for Mosquitos! Several Mosquitos were in my room. Worse still the whole air of the room was filled with a bitter sweet smell of Mosquito spray. One half-full bottle was standing there. 2. There was one cockroack climbing around on the wall and another one laying dead on his back. I had to chase it before I went to bed. 3. The location was very hard to find. Without my Domenican SIM card and gmaps - no way. 4. It is overpriced. The tax of approx. 20% is not included. The room is way to expensive for the location and the standard they offer. Of all the hotels I stayed in the DomRep this was the WORST experience. I needed 2 days of recreation from the steam of the Mosquito poison in the room and the almost sleepless night.
This place was in a perfect location, very clean and a great value for the money. Las Terrenas is very noisy and can be quite busy but the tropical gardens around the bungalows shield the guests from it all. Only a very short walk to town and the beach. Helpful staff, great breakfast provided and a great price. Will definitely stay again.
Beds were a little hard for my liking.
The lushed landscape and the originality on color and design of the room. It takes about seven minutes to get to the beach.
The parking lot is not designed to carry your luggage easily to your room. Food is expensive. Bring bottles of water and snacks.
Great breakfast Convenient location at 5 min walking distance to Fisherman village where all great restaurants and cafes are located at the beachfront, in the same time this hotel is like a little oasis hidden away from the noisy main road full of motorbikes. The room is decent, duplex style, with good air conditioning and good shower with always hot water.
There were big cockroaches in the room every evening. Despite stuff's efforts to apply anti-cockroach repellent during the day, we still had to fight them every evening before going to bed. The wifi connection was not covering our room sufficiently, we had to go to the dining lounge to use wifi
owner was wonderful and accommodating! staff was friendly and helpful. breakfast included was terrific. dinner was one of the best we had all week. restaurant/chef was top notch loved the pool. walk to beach and town was perfect.
Friendly and informative staff Quietness Relaxing atmosphere
Food is prepared & served tastefully. Colorful and vibrant decor through out the hotel with comfortable basics. I would go again. Great vibe all over & Very nice people!
Staff extremely helpful and friendly. Owners on premise. Personalized attention. Food at restaurant outstanding. Included breakfast had fruits, eggs, ham, bread, yogurt, cereal, juice, etc. Rooms very comfortable, 2 floors: queen bed below, two twins above. Beautiful grounds, very well maintained. Quiet.
Wifi sometimes did not work from inside the room. Had to sit outside or go to the dining area. If you do not have transportation (we had a car), to get out of the hotel you have to go through about 50 yards of dirt road that becomes mud when it rains.
Very small, and friendly: almost familial Quiet Lots of space (the bungalow had a second floor with additional beds)
Not right on the beach
The lush garden setting with pool is a great place for R&R. We would spend a few hours there after breakfast before heading to beach. Rooms had a queen sized double bed and the 2 or 3 twins in an upstairs loft. Nicely decorated with a/c and ceiling fan. Dont think there was a tv. Large bathroom, nice heavy towels and very hot water. Good screens on all windows. Two bottles of water provided each day. Fridge in room.
The only downside was it is a 3 block walk to the beach. This does mean it is quiet at night, but you do not hear the ocean from your room. As long as you do not want to be right on the beach this is the place to stay
Good location, friendly staff, good brekfast.
The pool and the food
We were looking for a small village in the DR away from those big resorts full of tourists afraid to venture out of the enormous hotels with no personality where you might as well be in a Marriott anywhere in the World. We certainly found both. Las Tortugas is a marvelous haven in las Terrenas, a fisherman’s village, where Isabelle and Maurizio (and all their terrific staff) made sure that we felt right at home. What we loved the most about this beautiful hotel was the magnificent quiet of its surroundings, where all you can hear is the birds, the frogs, the wind, the palm tress, the rain… We were a five minute walk from an amazing strip of restaurants and paradise beaches (in 20 minutes we walke to Ballenas Beach, for example, from where you never want to leave). We woke up each morning to a smiling and familiar staff who would serve our incredible breakfast, ask us about our day, and tell us stories about their hometown. The cabins are perfectly cleaned every day, comfortable, and the wifi worked impeccably. The hotel environment makes you feel in perfect harmony between the beauty of the landscape and the comfort that you need--a very hard line to accomplish. To make it even better, Isabelle is a true chef. Las Tortugas restaurant is the best in las Terrenas—and the competition is hard as there are some very good restaurants in the close vicinity. Isabelle made her food with love and with a creativity that perfectly played with the flavors of the DR and her own Mediterranean. We made special requests in the morning, a sancocho one day, a pesto soup the next, and she made it with special dedication. We LOVED Las Tortugas, its romantic little pool in the middle of the Caribbean jungle, and cannot wait to go back. Thank you for a perfect stay.
We LOVED everything.
Nice decorations and style, away from noisy street.
Electricity and water shut down. Small pool, not welcoming to swim(
The hotel is like a little sanctuary, hidden away from the commotion of the main street. There's lots of greenery, the food at the restaurant is so yummy and it's only a minutes walk from the beach.
The street leading to the hotel is VERY dark at night, also not paved, so if you're walking, bring a flash light. The wifi did not work inside the rooms, only outside.
We appreciated a second bedroom and liked the private patio near the pool. The included breakfast was good and the service was excellent. The staff was friendly and helpful.
Location hidden Personnel enthousiast Originality of the room Cleanliness
Noisy at night (insects)
La Tortuga hosts the best restaurant in Las Terrenas. The beef is tender, the seafood delicious and the wine is good. The bungalows are built around a pool, which is set in a garden full of flowering trees. Here, you can relax; no noise from the motos and quads can be heard. The bungalows have a/c and comfortable beds; A queen bed on the ground floor and our unit had 3 single beds on the top floor. We slept like babies...
Mosquitos at night
I liked the wi fi signal, breakfast was ok
The price is high for the surrondings and facilities compare to other hotels in the area. It is not a beach front hotel. Too many mosquitoes. The room view was the hotel restaurant, which is also a bar and the front desk.
The place is gorgeous. The grounds are lovely and the rooms unique and playful. The staff were very helpful even so much as helping us find a trusted dentist in an urgent situation.
It wasn't on the beach, but it was a very short walk to the beach and a great strip of cute restaurants.
