The venue was nice, the rooms nice and comfortable.
The lack of service at the restaurant with the pool outside, the confusion when checking out. Breakfast was nice but bits were forgotten and then for me, extra was added and charged. Asked for coffee to have before breakfast and it came with breakfast. There were 4 of us and another couple in the restaurant then to start was some attention, then nothing! I think that the staff definitely need more training, especially for the cost of staying overnight. Also it would be good to have an itemised account for what you pay for not just a bill at the end. So I wasn't really happy with that.
I found the hotel very relaxing, Whale watching from a private boat arranged at the hotel through the Escape Samana tour office was perfect!
The Cafe del Mar restaurant tables situated outside need more lighting and was a bit too dark in the evening!
Location and views and attitude of staff.
Arrival: Requirement for payment on arrival. Inability to serve a cup of tea in less than half an hour. Rooms: No CNN, BBC World or similar English speaking news channels. No WiFi. No internet cables.g Utterly inadequate telephone system. Wrong dialing codes in Room Telephone Directory. Locks on balcony doors not working therefore no night security. Certain items in bathroom not working. Restaurant: Utterly unacceptable quality of restaurants for a hotel in this price range. Breakfast - no buffet selection. Inability to produce four hot coffees in under 20 minutes. White toast and strawberry jam presented with no options. Tea served with tepid water. etc. etc. etc. We were mistaken as members of a tour group yet we were paying top price. Altogether an overpriced hotel with poor service delivery. But charming staff unable to deliver the standard expected by an International traveller paying US$325 a night . The General Manager, Jessica Bretin-Mariano, in her welcome letter completely overstates the anticipated experience and clearly fails to manage the hotel to a five star standard.
