Very helpfulu staff!!! Easy access everywere in historical part of city.
Fantastic colonial style property in the heart of old historic Quito. Wonderful service, home feeling, warm welcoming and extremely helpful stuff. Highly recommendable!
very very friendly, helpful staff. The hotel building itself has very interesting decors and history in itself.
"smell of the sewer' from the bathroom floor drain. No heat in the building, it was cold in Nov. Historical city, no one around after 7 pm, so there is no need to stay in the historical part of the city. Stay outside the city you would likely get a more modern hotel
location in the old town
the restaurant (some Buena Vista) recommended by staff was far too overpriced..
Very nice colonial villa in the middle of historic Quito. Everything perfect.
Excellent in every way!!
Better placement for suitcases in room.
Inside garden Room Cleanless Really good breakfast Good information
Little smell of ...
The staff are very sensitive to your needs and always provided prompt appropriate customer service. I'd say they significantly exceeded my expectations. I would recommend to a friend.
I can't say enough good things about Portal de Cantuna. Location is great - steps away from San Francisco Plaza heart of the historic district. Portal de Cantuna is a charming historic villa that was transformed into an even more charming inn. Everything was clean , comfortable and very safe (two women travelers). Their was plenty of hot water (solar) and the place was full of art from recycled materials. Breakfast is included and is served by the most accommodating staff I've ever met. The best part of this place is the staff, I should say family. It is family owned and run and they are all wonderful -- friendly, always smiling and very helpful. When the car we had hired to take us to Cotacachi was in an accident and couldn't pick us up, Sonia was on the phone finding us another vehicle and driver -- and she negotiated a better price. Sonia, Claudia, Renardo and everyone there was absolutely fabulous! All in all this is place is the best. It certainly beats many of the 5-star hotels I've stayed in. I will definitely stay at Portal de Cantuna again!
The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were large and comfortable.
The staff was extremely gracious and helpful, and the decor was charming. The location near the Plaza San Francisco was convenient.
The room was very cold. Ask for a heater from the manager.
Very friendly owners of the hotel, hotel in the old building but very very well kept. Typical south-american breakfast - coffee, tea, fresh juice, bread with butter and jam and eggs (as you wish) - it was good but it would be better if hotel adds something more typical for tourists. The bed was comfortable, the water was hot. You can feel safe in the hotel despite you are in the Old Town. Tea and coffee was available for the whole day.
It was a little cold in the room and in surroundings. And we had small problems with the door locker.
Excellent location for visiting the historical part of Quito and lots of good restaurants close by. Super-friendly, helpful owners and staff. Really interesting building with amazing antiques.
Gorgeous setting. Great location. Hands-on owner Sonia was very obliging and helpful. Very different to other hotels we stayed in but this made an enjoyable change. The décor and design of the hotel made it a charming and interesting place to stay. Beautiful plants and art tastefully surrounds you. Personal guide to local plaza and purchase of hop-on-and-off bus tickets. Map supplied. Use of office computer to download photos - despite the small office the staff let me stay for as long as needed on their computer.
The hotel transfer in the middle of the night didn't show at the airport despite our confirmation the day before. However, the hotel owners were most apologetic and bent over backwards to make up for this mistake, including paying for our taxi fare. No hairdryer and rooms fairly basic, but clean and comfortable.
This was a fantastic find at a great price. The location in Old Town is excellent for exploring with many great restaurants in the area. The hotel was spotless clean, very quiet and beautifully decorated. The bed was very comfortable and after a good night sleep a very tasty and filling breakfast. We were also given great advice on making the best use of our time in Quito. Also the wifi was good.
Wifi too slow.
Very kind and warm welcome and support! Thanks for the honeymoon gift!
Very warm and friendly welcome. The property is a former convent and retains many original features. It is more like being a guest in someone's home so don't expect a anonymous bog-standard hotel. It has a beautiful covered central courtyard so there can at times be a little noise from other guests. Breakfast is a simple affair but was just fine for me - fresh fruit, cereal, fresh buns, eggs cooked as you like and good coffee. The restaurant offers a small but good menu in the evening; there is not much else nearby open at night. Highly recommended for those who prefer something different and non-plastic.
Location and decor.
The continental breakfast was meager. Staff were a bit disorganized.
I love the old town.. I have been in Ecuador 3 times and intend to spend winters in the sierra near Cotacachi.. or Cuenca.. forget Quito....
Bloody Sunday? They close the old town and we had to walk with luggage for nearly a km to reach guide;s car for a trip to Amazonia... Quito: do you want tourists or not? The city should be more accomodating or do you do so only for deluxe properties: corruption or parti-pris?
The friendliness and helpfulness of the owner and the staff is absolutely top grade.
The breakfasts served by Lily were excellent and the service she provided was first class. All of the staff were very helpful, friendly and spoke English as well as Spanish, I will stay there for sure on my next trip.
Because you are in the heart of the city it is a bit noisy at night and in the mornings. Bring earplugs.
Friendly and helpful family run hotel
We loved our first stay at Portal de Cantuña so much that we stopped there again on our return visit to Quito. The location is fabulous and Senora Sonya and the rest of the staff treated us like family. The hotel itself is an old casa that has been in their family for 4 generations. It's been updated with individual bathrooms, wifi, and a beautiful glass canopy over the inner courtyard, but retains an old-world charm. The beds were very comfortable, and we enjoyed relaxing in the sitting room and dining room, as well as the lovely inner court yard. The hotel is in the District Historico (Old Town), and San Francisco Plaza, monastery and convent are steps away, as is the Capilla de Cantuña, and the Casa del Alabado, a beautiful museum of pre-Columbian art. The hotel rate includes a hearty breakfast served on the premises, and the restaurant is also open in the evening, serving delicious home-cooked Ecuadorian dinners at a very reasonable price - a great alternative if you don't feel like venturing out during an evening rainstorm. I highly recommend the Portal de Cantuña for travelers who are looking for a great local experience.
The hotel is near a busy square and in the heart of a neighborhood, so there is sometimes street noise, and people starting their day early. Also, be aware that there is no elevator, so if you are unable to manage a flight of stairs, this might not be the best choice.
The staff was great and very friendly. My boyfriend forgot his glasses at the hotel after we departed and they sent a taxi to find us at the airport. There is nothing more you can say about a place that would go out of their way even after you paid.
