Mindo has a lot of wonderful nature options. Feeding hummingbirds, the BEST butterfly gardens we have ever visited and we have been to many & really good bird watching - we used Sandra & Romelly at Bird Paradaisio (sp) & had alot of fun & Romelly drove us back safely to Quito but took us on an extra bird sighting trip on the way that was super - wonderful too! The trails to the waterfalls was a lot of fun & the falls are worth the trek although these out of shape older folks didn't make it to them all. The chocolate tour at Yumbos led by Amir was wonderful! We enjoyed both the tarabita & telerifico rides although the last was a bit scary, terrific views! Prices for everything was very reasonable, food may be a bit higher than rest of Ecuador but not too bad. Limited options though as most menus looked almost the same. One place we would definitely come back to. Only the food options were a little lacking. Everything else was fun & it was nice to be out of big cities.

Mindo has so many things to do.
Mindo has so many things to do. We took a ride on the cable car (Tabita) and then hiked to see the 5 waterfalls. We toured a butterfly house and took a coffee tour. The town is small so walking was the way to explore. We only needed a taxi to get to the hiking. Definitely take a truck taxi since the roads are rough and windy to get to the top. Our driver gave us his phone number to call him when were finished hiking. There are so many different restaurants to choose from and very good prices. We enjoyed our two night stay at the El Descanso where we saw so many tropical birds (especially hummingbirds) right off the back patio.

Mindo is a lovely little town, famous for chocolate, butterflies and waterfalls! Although there’s a lot of activities, you can get through most of them in 2 days, which makes it a great weekend travel destination.
Temperatures are usually mild due to it being in the clouds.

I've visited here twice, once in 2001 and the second time in 2023. I would say it has actually improved quite a lot in that time; the road into town is better, and the facilities in the area are much better. There are some much better restaurants and small cafes, and more "fun" activities available than there used to be. At the same time, the development hasn't been allowed to run rampant, so it still has the feel of a small town in the subtropics.
Hot tub on our balcony was amazing.
Facilitated late check in and kept the restaurant open a little later so we could eat when we arrived (which was VERY much appreciated). Chef was great with my gluten free requirement too.
The setting of the hotel is incredible with beautiful wildlife, room balcony views, walks around the property etc.
Free canyon swing and ziplining through the forest.
Breakfast was delicious, coffee was the best we had on our trip.
Helped us with a driver for our last day to get back to quito.
My husband and I stayed at the Eden tree house for five nights. We stayed in the family room as this was the only one available at the time. What we loved most about the place was the location, isolated and a good 45 minute walk from the centre in the middle of nature. We were able to see tucans in the trees from our bedroom! From the hotel grounds we were able to spot several species of birds, frogs, insects etc. The staff was kind and available. We would definitely come back to this hotel on a next visit to Mindo.
One of the best properties I’ve stayed at in South America. If you like being in nature this place is wonderful. Sounds of the river, birds, lovely flowered landscape, a nice swimming pool and hammocks all set near a gushing river is Mindo Real. Great breakfast, good wifi, nice clean comfortable rooms. There are even some cottages ($) and riverside camping. The staff are excellent. Maria speaks very good English and is sooo helpful, muchos gracias Maria! I highly recommend this place.
Everything. 😊😊 There was a problem with our choice of accommodation due to recent storms and we were upgraded to a very comfortable three bedroom house, which was spotless clean and comfortable,
From the time of booking the lines of communication was excellent, the staff were friendly and very attentive. The meals were first class. This property is a little out of Mindo but just a short taxi ride away but the location was perfect for our 4 day stay
To Sol and her staff, thank you 🙏
We loved the hotel. So beautiful. The breakfast was delicious and the views amazing. I never has breakfast in such a beautiful place. Mindo is a great place to visit, extremely safe and with many things to do! We recommend the canopy, the bird watching, the waterfalls and the chocolate tour. We also had the transfers organised by the hotel which was very handy and helped us a lot to move from airport to mindo and mindo to cotopaxi!
They serve a simple breakfast of a scrambled egg and a bun with coffee and fresh j=uice. For an additional $2 we shared a plate with a crepe drizzled in their own chocolate with a mixture of sliced fruits The owners were helpful and quickly became new friends. There were also bedside lamps and outlets, both of which are sorely lacking in many hotels in Ecuador. The bed was very comfortable and the shower had lots of hot water.
Everything! It’s a beautiful room, in a great location. It’s only a 5 minute walk into town and you can get taxis anywhere you want to go. It’s so peaceful, and Ronny (the man who runs the hotel) is so friendly and helpful! We stayed for 5 nights and would have loved to stay longer! If you’re in doubt, go ahead and book it. You won’t be sorry!
Smaller, luxury property tucked away in Mindo, off the beaten path but still an easy walk to the butterfly gardens and the cable car that takes you to the waterfalls. Amazing, responsive staff - very friendly and welcoming. Rooms are modern/simple design - very clean with lush tropical gardens around each room’s private patio.
The owner was really nice, he helped us a lot (called taxis) and cooked a delicious breakfast and afternoon tea. We could also use the kitchen.
The house is beautiful, sorrounded by nature, you can always hear birds and the river.
It is really close to the Teleferico Minjoy if you want to take it to go to Cascadas Mindo.

The hotel is new, modern and well equipped. Delicious breakfast with low cost. The staff provides 24 hours good services and very friendly. It has its own private parking and safe. It's the best hotel in Mindo that we have visited.
Lovely small hotel with amazing gardens, excellent breakfast and wonderful staff who make sure you are well looked after. Well located on the edge of Mindo within east walking distance of town yet quiet and tranquil.
It was a great place to stay near the centre of Mindo . The apartment was well equipped and nicely presented . Our host was amazing nothing was too much trouble for her . Always ensuring we had everything we needed
