Location, decor, breakfasts, helpful staff. Good wifi in room. Stayed in a mini suite for 3 nights then a twin room with balcony overlooking street.

Beautiful converted mansion! Exceptional help with questions, etc. Everyone was great!

We thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay in mid-March 2013 at the Casa San Rafael in Cuenca, Ecuador. Its location in the old city is ideal. Our room was very comfortable and the staff was very pleasant and accommodating. Highly recommended!

I have stayed in hotels all over the world and I would have to say that the staff could not have been more accommodating, helpful and friendly. From arranging taxis to an earlier than normal breakfast for us to recommending restaurants during Carnival when most places were closed. This was a fantastic experience. Mucho gracias to all the staff.

Slightly noisy due to 2 balconies overlooking the streets below but it was all part of the experience; we got used to it after our first night. Definitely not a deal breaker!

There is nothing I didn't like.

We spent 5 nights at the hotel over the Christmas holidays. It is a few streets from the Cathedral and other sites. Great staff - family run. Certainly will stay again when we return.

The hotel was beautiful!! The beds were incredibly comfortable, and the breakfasts were delicious, not to mention generous.

The hotel is a meticulously restored old Spanish home in the heart of the city. The place is truly gorgeous. The staff and family were both great and helpful to us travellers who speak mostly English. The included breakfast was perfect as well!

The rooms that are adjacent to the streets with balconies are quite noisy, but the staff made an offer to us to relocate before we had even stayed in the room for a night! We were fine with the room and enjoyed the balcony overlooking the busy city streets, but if you want a particularly quiet stay, just ask for one of the quiet, interior rooms.

Located just a few blocks from the central park and cathedral. The staff was very friendly and helpful. A nice breakfast was included. A very nice, budget friendly hotel. I'd recommend highly.

The room was excellant, roomy and comfortable. The staff were warm, friendly, and helpful. We felt like part of their family. Indeed, many family members worked there. The full breakfast was well prepared with coffee always available. We would choose Casa San Rafael again. The location was ideal.

Excellent location despite being in the middle of town. Pretty and very well maintained hotel. Very friendly atmosphere with staff that goes out of their way to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Lovely breakfast and Tea and Coffee available at all times. Could not have made a better choice. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa San Rafael and wouldn't hesitate to return there for the attention and hospitality of the entire staff. We thank all the staff again who make this little hotel the gem that it is!

Very attentive and helpful staff. The room was lovely and very clean. The bathroom was perfect though small.

The only markdown was that our pillows were like most we experienced in Ecuador, overly firm and unyielding.

This is a charming, small, family owned and run boutique hotel. The owners (Rafael and Maria), their family and staff were all unbelievably warm and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble for them to make our stay the best it could be. The hotel location is ideal, just a couple of minutes walk to the cathedrals and squares at the center of Cuenca, which is itself a simply beautiful city. It is very reminiscent of some of the older European cities of Southern France, Italy or Spain. After 5 days we felt like part of family, and we will certainly return.

The Hotel Casa San Rafael was our favorite place to stay. The hotel was beautiful, the rooms so comfortable, and user friendly - meaning lots of hooks, hangers and a great bathroom. The hotel is family owned, who love what they do, and it shows everywhere. The breakfast is very good, as is the service and help from everyone. Can hardly wait to return to this hotel!!

The staff was excellent, friendly and attentive. The location was perfect, within easy walking distance to everything in El Centro.

Our room was completely windowless except for a small window which opened to the inside lobby. Because of that there was absolutely ZERO AIR CIRCULATION. The room (#302) would benefit greatly with the installation of a ceiling fan. A skylight in the center if the room made it almost impossible to sleep past 5am.

The friendliness of the staff, the location, the hotel was in an old beautifully restored building with beautiful furnishings, the breakfasts were delicious and the assortment of fresh squeezed fruit juices wonderful.

Location, only two blocks from the main park and everything within walking distance. If it weren't on the main street of Bolivar, so that it could have been more peaceful, I would have given it a higher score. And staff...always helpful, always welcoming, always friendly.

My room...I understand they did not have much choice as the original room they set aside for me, with a balcony over Bolivar, was a lot more charming. However, I didn't want the street noise at night, so I had to opt for a windowless (I wouldn't call the teeny one that seemed like an afterthought, and was an interior facing window, one!) room. Also the skylight kept the room bright and I was awakened at the first rays of sunlight. Being on the equator made that around 5 AM! While the hotel's interiors were charming, that was because there was no garden to speak of, no patio, no courtyard, no access to the "natural" environment without going out the door! Of course, the room I rejected had a balcony, so there's that.

My husband was sick while in Cuenca. The staff at Casa San Rafael was very helpful in every way. The owner even offered to call his personal family physican and have him come to our hotel room. The staff even ordered in dinner for me when i was too afraid to leave my husband alone. They were very attentive. Once my husband recovered, they assisted with maps, planning, etc. The entire staff is top notch. Our room was quiet and comfortable as well.

Our room didn't have a window that opened, so it felt a bit stuffy.
