A historical Colonial mansion can be enjoyed in the historical district of Cuenca. There is a charming red-tiled patio decorated with plants and an antique water fountain.

Liked location and how helpful the staff was. Good breakfast. Hot showers and actually got wifi in room. Loved the courtyard like rooms.
Leaving this charming hotel
We slept on the upper floor with no view of the city but no street noise either. Very kind and helpful staff. Very good hotel, walking distance to all places you might wish to visit.
Dark in the room
Good value; very nice furnishings and lobby. Great service
A bit loud at night because of the location.
love this hotel. it is super cute and quaint and the staff is very helpful. they organized us a private driver for the day to take us wherever we wanted outside of Cuenca or anywhere else we wanted to go. breakfast was great, they even brought it to our room when my friend was sick. It is close to the center and anywhere in town you would want to go. I wouldn't stay anywhere else.
it can be a bit loud at night
Staff gave excellent recommendations and directions which made it easy to navigate Cuenca.
Location was perfect in heart of old cuenca. Staff top notch and breakfast was fresh, filling and delicious.
Walls are very thin and unconcerned guests with loud voices could not be blocked out.
Great hotel with very helpful staff.
Friendliness Helpfulness Back room in first floor quiet at night, delightfully dark at night, but those preferring window should choose another room. Morning cup of fresh fruit!
Air pollution in central Cuenca...not the fault of the hotel!
Helpful and accommodating staff, great location, secure, nice breakfast, lots of charm and character, nice sitting areas. We really enjoyed our stay.
Mattresses a bit hard and a few squeaks just due to age of the building.
Geat helpfull staff
It is a beautiful building with a lot of character and nice sitting area on upper floor. The staff is wonderful and very helpful.
The room was very small, and traffic was very noisy all night.
it was a pleasure to stay in this wonderful hotel with the most helpful and friendly staff.
Extremely helpful staff and a very friendly atmosphere. We had a top floor room with a small living area. Compact but all we needed. Also has a pleasant common area.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa San Rafael. We'll never forget the kindness, hospitality and most of all the sincerity and honesty of the owner, Mr. Rafael. My name is Ligaya, my husband Murali forgot his American Express card after we checked out. Mr. Rafael went straight to the airport to try to get hold of us. We were about to check in our luggage and lo and behold we saw him standing in front of one of the ground stewardess counters showing a xeroxed copy of our passports. My husband pointed at him to my gaze. "I wonder what Rafael is doing here? he must have a business to tend to here". Mr. Rafael turned around and said to my husband, "did you forget something?" My husband said, "I don't know what you mean". Mr. Rafael said, "here is your Amex gold card. My husband blushed. Oh my God! is that why you came all the way here to the airport? Yes. We thanked Mr. Rafael and we hugged each other. Not many people would do such thing.
Owner and staff made you feel like family
a family-like hotel
A beautiful Spanish colonial hotel, lovingly looked after. Great staff who speak very good English.
Nothing, it's a great little hotel
Excellent hotel restoration! The high level of service by the staff at Hotel Casa San Rafael made our visit to Cuenca memorable! Thank you! Elgin, Liz, Tom and Susan
The Lobby is gorgeous.
Many rooms have no windows. Staff isn't very knowledgable about tours or service oriented. Also I got a number of bug bites while staying there. Overall it's inexpensive and the service wasn't great. Breakfasts are the same every day. There is no food (not even water or soda) available after breakfast so that's very inconvenient.
Excellent help with city facilities(restaurants; day trips) Ruth, your day trip provider offered an excellent experience on our trip outside of Cuenca. The staff of Casa San Rafael provided a very high level of service. You have done an amazing job of restoring your hotel. Thank you for providing a memorable experience in Cuenca! Elgin, Liz, Tom, and Susan
The hotel is a family run business. It has a warm, homey feel to it. I loved the antiquity of the hotel. It gave me a glimpse of what the inside of a colonial home would look like.
The staff was very helpful! The young man at the front desk guided us to spas and resturants. We had a great time. Me being from the states booking the trip impressed my father-inlaw by choosing this hotel.
Not a thing
Wonderful location in Cuenca within walking distance of many things to see and do. Helpful, courteous staff. Spoke English well and helped us make the most of our few days in Cuenca. Arranged for tours and transportation. Wonderful atmosphere; like being in a beautiful home. Staff made us feel at home.
The staff are what makes this place. Everything was excellent but on a 1 to ten the staff is an eleven.
No wash cloths but we find this the norm in Ecuador.
