Just about everything -- the fresh flowers, plants, beautiful murals on the walls, the feeling of comfort, and friendliness of all who work there. There is complimentary coffee and tea available all day into evening. We loved that too.
Strange rule about not drinking alcohol in your room; nice decoration but a bit over the top in terms of religion; noise from common areas easily heard in rooms
Small hotel with very friendly and helpful staff
The girl at the front desk, Valeria was so warm and helpful, as well as the rest of the staff. Hot Showers, great breakfasts, and on the main street. A most romantic ambiance, prefect for a honeymoon.
The staff and food were outstanding!
Love the people and especially Rafael and his wife.
breakfast was fresh cooked and good quality although not many options if you stay for many days decent value for price paid
no English TV stations, evening/weekend staff not proficient in English, cleaning of bathrooms inconsistent..e.g. toilet bowl
Location was central to everything. The hospitality and personal interest was impeccable. The owners and their staff were more than gracious, and for that old world quaintness with modern touches, you can't do better. We loved our stay there!
The building was a converted Spanish mansion. Although equipped with flush toilets, it gave the impression of an historical experience. The staff went out of the way to be obliging, and the complimentary breakfasts were excellent.
I would have appreciated bottles of drinking water.
+ exceptionally nice hotel + comfortable beds + location
The attention and personnel was extremely friendly and helpful. It was very comfortable, and cozy, well decorated and clean. Perfect location.
Clean rooms, wonderful breakfasts, good location, best of all the ladies who work there are so helpful, friendly and sweet. They truly take pride in what they do.
Perhaps I didn't understand the layout of the rooms through the narratives, but I intended to get a room for two persons with one bed but ended up with a double bed room which resulted in a somewhat cramped room. Efforts to resolve were unsuccessful but it was the Holidays so it's understandable.
Front desk staff spoke English well, and went out of their way to be helpful.
Great central location, wonderfully helpful staff and a charming historic inn stuffed with antiques, large comfortable bedrooms rooms and enticing, beautifully furnished public rooms for reading or relaxing.
Nothing to not like
This small colonial gem feels like staying with family. Except everything looks nicer. The decorations and appointments are beautiful. Every room is hand-painted with murals. They were fantastically accommodating, and this side of town is very nice. And safe. As an extra bonus, it has the conviviality of b and b. I'd highly recommend it!
A beautiful charming place in the central historical district.
hard to find. It took almost an hour of driving around to find the nhotel. My spanish is average and probably didn't help. Parking was OK but not perfect.
Staff was very helpful, centrally located to the historic centre, decor was outstanding
We stayed in this lovely little hotel twice in our recent stay in Cuenca. Lovely rooms, wonderfully friendly and helpful staff, located in the centre of everything - we would stay there again.
Pillows are overly firm.
Liked location and how helpful the staff was. Good breakfast. Hot showers and actually got wifi in room. Loved the courtyard like rooms.
Leaving this charming hotel
We stayed in Casa San Rafael for 4 nights, of which the first in room 207, small, well-equipped but without windows. Luckily we could move to room 207 which has windows, and a balcony. We had a very nice and comfy stay, the hotel is breathtakingly beautiful and the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. The location is absolutelybperfect. Everything is on walking distance and we loved to view the local daily life pass by. Of course you will hear some streetnoise but that's to be expected when you want to be right in the middle of the centre.
The somewhat basic breakfast we were served. For this kind of ambience one expects a slightly more fitting morning menu, we missed fresh fruit and cakes, fresh croissants instead of those out a package and some good bread. We also missed cheese and coldmeats. Just a suggestion.
We slept on the upper floor with no view of the city but no street noise either. Very kind and helpful staff. Very good hotel, walking distance to all places you might wish to visit.
Dark in the room
The atmosphere, was wonderful and easy access for parking, 3 minutes away for 4$. Loved it! Great location ! Fantastic customer service, good English speaking, breakfast was great an free WIFI.ontario canada
Good value; very nice furnishings and lobby. Great service
A bit loud at night because of the location.
love this hotel. it is super cute and quaint and the staff is very helpful. they organized us a private driver for the day to take us wherever we wanted outside of Cuenca or anywhere else we wanted to go. breakfast was great, they even brought it to our room when my friend was sick. It is close to the center and anywhere in town you would want to go. I wouldn't stay anywhere else.
it can be a bit loud at night
