Staff treated us like family. Real coffee! Relaxing grounds & common rooms Very quiet street
Very over-priced compared to other options in town.
Beautiful old castle nestled in a quiet back street approx 5 mins walk from the main dock, centre of town, las ninfas lagoon, and the entry to the trail to tortuga bay. The young man running the business spoke perfect english and was very helpful and polite for our entire stay.
Friendly localy owned and operated hostel. Great staff who always tried to help you. A quiet location 10 mins walk from the main harbour.
Owner is very pleasant and helpful
The rooms are big and beautiful. You feel very at home, and you can wash your dirty laundry your self and make your own coffee.
The staff was seldom to find anywhere.
You really feel being in the castle: 2 floor room with balconies, very friendly & attentive staff , spacious guest area with kitchenette at your disposal , good location
Free bicycles available. Nice balcony views of solar panels and neighbours gardens. Free hammock use.
No tv, no aircondition in our room, sleeping is almost impossible due to heat, also the fridge makes a loud noise, so you need to disconnect it at night. Many insects, including mosquitos (they provide a plugin for insects but its useless), moths, ants and we seen a few cockroaches, these will attack you when you sleep. Most horrible part is the buffet breakfast, you have to self service yourself with a limited choice of food and on top of that you are asked to wash the dishes by a notice on the wall. The breakfast is very poor,no cooked eggs,no cheese,no ham,no toast, but there is jam,6~7 plain bread rolls and packet juice, there is tea/coffee but you need to warm the water in the microwave. There are no fruits, the free water when dispensed sometimes has ants in it. You need to wake up early otherwise you may miss out on the bread rolls. Next problem is the wifi internet, never seen such slow internet (and I worked within it industry for 15years) it is pre-historic, measuring a 'lightning' 0.19mb download, tested, yes that's right not even a fifth of a mb, you can not watch any videos or do Skype, connecting to any website is a nightmare. The range of the wifi is a pointless 5metres from router so do not expect to get reception on your mobile device in any of the guest rooms. Most guests congregate around the router to use the internet. Last point is the payment, this place states only cash payment (but they have facility for MasterCard Visa yet are extremely reluctant to use this), the cash payment is because it is more 'convenient' for them, when wanting to pay with a MasterCard, there is only 1 person who knows how to take payment and ofcourse you will be met with excuses why they prefer cash. Overall no where close to 80usd per night more like a 35usd hostel to be fair. Thanks
It's location, is one and the wonderful reception we received on arrival. Also, whenever we needed something, we got a response and quick action, especially giving us ideas on tours, usage of the kitchen, at, any time, was definitely an asset!
This place is very unique......and just needs some added amenities, such as, closets, hair dryer, etc. I have already spoke of this to Alajendro, and as he mentioned, more adding is on the way!
Size of room was good with interesting grounds, with a little TLC this place could be amazing.
In need of a few updates, not secure windows, ants in bathroom. AC would have been nice, and the shower could have been warmer.
Great staff and great atmosphere. We really enjoyed our stay!
The only thing we didn't like was that some of the windows in our room did not have a screen.(small problem when you have no ac) My friend ending up being a buffet for the mosquitoes. I, however, was bitten only once.
The room was okay. Wifi works most of the time. I've got a room with ac so made my stay more bearable. Good breakfast (no eggs). Has a kitchen and a common room where guests can use.
Location - it's far from town, it's not even on the map. Hard to find as no street signs and its being off the map. Taxis are not easy to get. There's nothing around (I'm not cooking). At 35c, do you still want to walk 15 mins in the baking sun to get back (I get sunburned while walking back from Tortuga Bay - almost an hour), then again just to get dinner?? For $48 per person (not per room), there are so many better options in town - either you get more or you pay less. Staff don't speak English. They did send me a tours menu before I checked in. All are more expensive than what you can get in town ($165 day trip to San Christobal vs $90 from a travel agent listed in Lonely Planet). Breakfast - I like that they have cereal. No eggs (buy your own and cook yourself). But I have to clean my own dishes. Seriously, why bother staying here?? It's overpriced and poorly located. The good reviews are all overrated and biased in my opinion. I so regret having booked two nights here. I'd have been able to do more had I stayed in somewhere closer to town.
Loved the location-outside of the busy tourist area. Loved having use of free bikes and it was great having use of the kitchen so we didn't have to eat out every meal.
Would have liked a screen on the window that didn't have one.
Fantastic hotel in Galápagos! The location is very near the town, about a 10 minute walk so very close. It's unique in decor which really makes it! We stayed in the top tower and it was incredibly spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was huge too so it was great. And the view is incredible! No air-con but loads of fans so it's fine. The breakfast is an added bonus and you can eat as much as you want! The staff really make this little hotel though. They help set up all the tours and give loads of great advice which helps loads!
Air con would have been great but it doesn't matter as there are heaps of fans.
Owner Álex and his staff will take personal care of you and guarantee you have all you need and a wonderful stay.
Alejandro the Manager was wonderful. Could not help us enough. Arranged tours for us at last minute, got us beers and even arranged our laundry. I loved the fantasy of living in a castle as we had the upper room with a balcony. It was huge.
Cats and dogs fighting in the neighborhood at night.Bit noisy but in saying that, you really have to think where you are. Its an Island in the middle of nowhere, Its not going to be perfect.
Very friendly staff and nice breakfast. Comfortable big bed.
The room had a funny smell, like water standing in the bathroom, like mildew. The water was slightly warm and not hot enough for a warm shower.
The hotel was clean and the family who runs it is very nice. Some of them speak English. Puerto Ayora has two main streets that form a Tee. Charels Darwin is along the waterfront and Baltra Ave comes off of it to form the tee. Darwin is the main street for Tourists and as Baltra gets away from it, it becomes the main street for the locals. Castillo Galapagos is toward the local end of the street which is about a mile long. There are 2 streets along Baltra that are full of street food vendors and my wife and I would stop and get street food for dinner each night as we headed back to the hotel if we weren't getting dinner at a restaurant. Definitely the best food of the trip. Since all of Galapagos is very safe, wondering among the locals is no problem although few speak English.
Our room had a double door where the first attached to the door frame and the second latched into the first door. The problem was that the first door didnt' really attach to the door frame so anyone could just pull the doors open. I tied that door back with an extension cord but that was pretty unacceptable considering we had a lot of cash for the trip. Also, in case you missed it, there is no air conditioning. Not a problem for us since we went in October but I would have hated it in the summer. There was also a construction site directly behind our window where contruction workers are building a rather large building. It woke us up every morning but one. I'm guessing it will be completed by early 2014 but that's just a guess. Also, the free wifi didnt' penetrate the walls so we had to go to the common areas to use it. Lastly, this hotel is more like a bed and breakfast in that the family that runs the hotel also lives there, so there are small children running around. This may not be a problem for most but possibly for some. Lastly, the listing on Booking.com says that it is a 10 minute walk from the Darwin Research Center. It's more like 45 minutes.
This is a very nice place, a fun castle a little walk from the centre of Puerta Ayora. We borrowed bikes for free for a whole day and enjoyed our stay.
A bit expensive compared to some other places, but still ok value.
