Room was spacious, the courtyard is comfortable and adorable, the facility is very clean, you can buy cheap beer at the front counter even after the hotel bar is closed, location seems secure. Breakfast is plentiful, cheap, and runs till 11. There is a pool table, a small, full service restaurant, and a small bar, all within the hostel. The only thing missing is a pool, but that's pretty difficult to find in Quito overall, and perhaps impossible at this price point. Location is great - during the day - as it is situated between three cute parks and the historic district. It is a shame that the parts of central Quito which are the most enjoyable during the day are the most reputably dangerous at night (parks and historic area) but that is the way it goes. Basically, you can walk to things from this Inn, but heed warnings and try to walk around only during the day.
Paid the same price this time, for the same type of room, as I have in the past, and got a much larger room. This wasn't an issue for this visit, but it is unsettling to know that you can reserve completely different rooms without being aware of it. First room was the length of the bed and twice and wide. Only furniture was the bed and one chair (for a matrimonial suite). Second room was a bit less wide but over twice as long, and included a desk, a chair, and an armoire. The location was also not right next to the stairs, like the first room was. Overall, a much better room for the same price and under the same title of "Matrimonial Suite." Wifi is basically non-existent within rooms, though is usable in the courtyard and the lobby/restaurant area. There are also some computers for guest usage.
great food pool table bar breakfast lovely space and courtyard excellent IT close to historical sites 10 min walk
Breakfast is worth the value.
Can't sleep: open rooms to the main garden, entrance...everything. You will sleep late and wake up real early because of the noise outside right at the step of your door. Internet / WiFi is a joke. Does not work in the room. The room stinks. The smell of sewer is constant, especially at night. The drapes are useless, and you will wake up with the first light (5:00 AM), especially the window is huge. The room has no heating whatsoever: at night, you need a jacket until you get into the bed. And we're talking real cold (same as outside temperature: 10-12 C).
some of the staff were very nice and helpful the location was convenient for my purpose though for most people a place in either old town or Mariscal makes more sense
other staff members were useless and clearly not interested in doing their job. the kitchen is tiny and very poorly equipped...definitely not the "fully equipped" claim they boast. Also the supposed safe box as claimed to be in rooms did not exist..and when asked to at least be able to look items in a hotel safe was told that wasn't needed. by ecuadorian standards prices for food/water are way too high. I eventually checked out early after yet another noisy night when I really couldn't be asked to argue with the night receptionist over not doing his job
Friendly staff, great vibes, good wine, great food and the shower had great pressure and hot water. It was like walking into France with all the French hanging around, we loved it.
Internet was very slow in room.
Location for public transport
Very noisy from other guests walking around, staff in kitchen pretty useless, breakfast very expensive, guests have to pay to use computers which is ridiculous! Internet doesn't work in rooms.
Friendly staff, nice view from balcony, good location, a lot of adverts for travellers and even a travel agency inside!
Internet and hot water supply were not very reliable.
Jean Luc and Jose from the travel desk were extremely helpful. Staff even gave us a wake up knock for our early departure for the airport. Car and driver waiting at the airport as promised. The view from 4th floor room was wonderful. Short walk to center of historic old town.
Wifi only available on first maybe second floor. Did not work at all on last night.
This property has it all for the price and is exceptional value for money.
Smoking allowed in the common areas including the dining area when there is ample smoking area in and around the courtyard. One person walked around everywhere when he smoked making it uncomfortable.
Buffet breakfast for $3.90 was great. Comfortable room except for the road noise
Hostal L'Auberge is between old and new town. It is 20 min walk to either. Also there was too much road noise in the room
