The hotel was secluded from the city. It takes about 10 - 20 minutes (depending if you are in shape or not) to hike to the hotel. It almost felt like I was Indiana Jones searching for the lost temple. Fun! And please don't get me wrong, the hotel is not hard to find, just keep on the trail and head up. Once there, you will be greated by the owners, a beautiful couple and their son. They will try and accommodate your every wish. The rooms are fresh and clean, with a view of Baños that is breathtaking. Once in the city, all you have to do is look up and into the mountains and there you will spot a cute yellow house just waiting for you to return.
The wifi is a little weak and I found entering the courtyard is the best for strong signal. Here's the last rant. You must hike to get there. So, after a long night in the city be aware that the path home is dim lit and feels a little unsafe. I made the mistake one night and had to hike in the dark. I had my hands on a wine bottle just in case Indiana Jones had to protect himself.
walking to the hotel is tiring
It has a great view of Baños and is a perfect place if you want to disconnect of the world and only be there
The location, you have to walk a lot in a very uphill location. At least a 20 minute walk. Also this makes it difficult to go out at night and makes the path dangerous. If you are not going for relaxation and disconnecting from the world. Don´t recommend it
Very friendly staff. Great breakfast.
It is a proper slog up the hill. Despite ( or because of) the location, all the noise from Baños comes up the hill. Terrible internet. No laundry.
We arrived in Baños, looked up the mountain and saw a lovely yellow house and knew where we needed to go. Getting there was the issue. The taxi driver didn't know where to drop us, best to walk directly from the bus station. It is a 20 minute walk up the mountain to the place. But once you get there, the scenery is spectacular, the environment is serene and beautiful, and it's very quiet. Just make sure you contact the staff on arrival so they can arrange for the horses to transport you up the hill. If you are looking to be in the middle of all the action, this isn't the place. But if you want to enjoy the best views and most relaxing experience in Baños for a good price, you can't go wrong at La Casa Amarilla.
The credit card machine was not working when we stayed, so make sure you have enough cash.
The brekfest were great! The view is amazing and the jacuzzi is nice aswell (dont forge to ask if there is a surcharge of.. 6$ for the jaccuzzi!)
The location is a bit far. You need to be prepare to cling a 15 minutes before getting to your room. No so simple when coming back at night.... it is easier to have a hotel/hostel in town if you are not prepared for climbing a bit to get to your room at night!
We loved the personal service of Margarita, the manager, who even went through great lengths to return an e-reader we accidentally left at the hotel. We also very much enjoyed the horse ride to reach the hotel. Without the horses it's a stretch to reach the hotel as there is no car access. However, due to its location, the view over Banos is great once you've reached the hotel. And with the horses it was really fun. Food was also excellent and fairly priced.
Beds were a bit small and the lights were on in the hallway during the night, but I'm sure you can ask the hotel to turn them off.
The public areas were gorgeous and the view down to banos and the surrounding area was spectacular. The hotel was set in a nature preserve.
The hotel was a 15 minute climb up a dirt trail, which was a tiring end to each day. The room was small.
Atencion personalizada; nice staff and natural setting
Location on map is completely opposite to real location; it is not across the river with a view on the volcano, but rather high on the steep flanck of the volcano itself, so you do not see the volcano. In addition on the map it seems a 5 minutes walk (peatonal access only!) to the hotel, but in reality it is a 30 minutes steep clime on foot or a ride on horseback. Last but no least, the amenities that are mentioned and showed (bbqq areas, jacuzzi) or in poor shape and hardly functioning.
The view of Banos was great. The staff was friendly.
The walk up is quite strenuous (15-20 minutes up, 10 minutes down) to the edge of the city. The breakfast was quite basic (bread, 2 eggs, coffee, milk, butter, jam, fruit juice) and took a very long time to prepare (almost 1 hour the first day, so then we specified times on other days). The dinner also took an hour to prepare, so we only had dinner there once. There are a few families living there at the hotel, so it was not quiet despite our being the only guests. The walls were quite thin (I could hear a cell phone alarm go off everyday at 6am, for example).
