You can use the terrace of the main hotel and it is terrific. The sea lions have theit own lounge and are a lot of fun to watch.
We had a really great time at the Mangrove. The staff were really helpful and the place was beautiful. It was great value for the money. The staff were really friendly and nice. We also loved the Sea Lion sitting area on the deck.
When we first arrived, they could not find our reservation on file. It took them a while to figure out a solution for us. The walk also from the divers lodge to the main lodge was about 5 mins and no one helped us carry all of our luggage. The wifi signal was not that strong and cut out often. Also there is really no outdoor pool. It is more of a cold hot tub.
It was cheap at $77 per night and they honored our reservation even though we were a day late.
Our shower had left over soap from the person prior as well as hair shavings all over the bathroom shower. Additionally, the reception is a few blocks away - what this means is that you need to check-in at the reception, lug your luggage over gravel road to where you are staying. And repeat on checkout. Also if anything is wrong (such as being given the wrong keys like we were in the middle of the night) or you have questions, you need to walk over to reception.
The Red Mangrove Divers Lodge was an amazing hotel with a clever layout and quirky rooms. It was so much space we didn't know what to do. This is not the main lodge but a short walk from it. It was a short walk from the main strip so it was very quiet. We loved it. Santa Cruz is very manageable by walking or short cab rides.
Only wished it included breakfast as there is a "cafeteria" in the main courtyard area.
Nice, eclectic and comfortable property. Quiet, AC, WIFI Beautiful views from dining room, bar.
Hot water not working for 3 days. At US$160 we expected a hot shower. Staff was unattentive, service in dining room was poor. Buffet dinner cost $41 pp and was basically a Nacho bar. We passed on that. Free morning coffee offered upon check in never appeared in the morning. Manager asked us to move to a much smaller room so that he could accommodate another guest but offered us no discount on the rate. We were on our way out the door to go diving. We refused to move without a discount. This property is majorly endorsed by National Geographic. They should reconsider or do some serious training of service staff.
Big room with fridge. Free bike hire at main hotel. This is a subsidiary. Some english. Staff v helpful. Good price without breakfast.
Expensive breakfast much cheaper in town. Confusing to find it is 3 blocks inland from the main hotel.
the place is very nice, very near from the main street. the room was excellent, with a great view. it isn't noisy.
the problem with this lodge is that you can't find people from the stuff to help you if you have any problem or questions, because they are always in the big hotel. but if you can deal with it, it's completely fine. and by the way, the big hotel it's located just a couple of small blocks down.
Very nice equipments, good location 4 blocks from the charles darwin's station and 5-10 min walk to the port. Confy beds and always cold water to drink if you leave it in the fridge (they bring more and leade it there) Their restaurant is the best!
I never saw people at the reception in the divers' extension of the hotel and we had to go to a near laudry to wash our clothes.
nice place, nice rooms, hot water and wifi all working
staff is only available from 9am to 7pm
We arrived early and as our room was not ready they gave us a larger suite for the same price. The complex was nicely laid out and looked to be well maintained.
The hotel name is not complete in the booking.com page. It is labelled as the Santa Cruz Divers Lodge and should be Red Mangrove Santa Cruz Divers Lodge. Our taxi driver did not recognise the name provided and due to the fact that the streets have no names we were not able to locate the hotel quickly and spent a half hour driving around until we found someone who could give us proper directions. On our arrival there were no staff on site and it was only by asking at the diving centre next door that we were able to find out where the reception was (at another complex also owned by the Red Mangrove group). Our suite was very noisy due to the fact that there were no internal doors between bedrooms and living space, the supplied refrigerator was very noisy and the compressor units for half the air conditioning units in the complex were on the roof of the suite and kept activating throughout the night making for very disturbed sleeping. We found out that the price we got the suite for was less than half price ($79 compared with almost $200 per night). If we have paid full price we would have felt completely ripped off. The quality of service and the noise problems do not warrant a $200 per night price tag.
