People were delightful, great service. I felt home.
The WiFi is great!
The hotel is moderately comfortable – nothing fancy. The location is not ideal but it’s possible to get around to all areas of interest – north and south once you learn where to catch the trolleys. I’m working on my Spanish but only one or two of the hotel employees speak English. When they start speaking in fast Spanish and you say your Spanish is limited they ignore you and continue. It’s frustrating especially if you need assistance booking a bus or finding a specific service in Quito. One morning I woke up feeling very sick and wasn’t able to go downstairs for breakfast – served between 7:00 – 9:00 a.m. I wrote out my “spiel” in Spanish and then called the front desk. The woman went on and on rambling in fast Spanish. Basically she said there is absolutely NO room service so if you don’t come downstairs you will not get any breakfast. When I told her I was sick she said she would see if the housekeeper could bring me some tea. The housekeeper never showed up. The message pretty much was she didn’t care if I was sick and furthermore didn’t want to be bothered! The other problem I had was the room was very cold at night and I didn’t see any evidence of heat. I had to use my sleeping bag to keep warm. The acoustics are poor so you can hear any noise coming from your neighbors. Breakfast menu is limited and not especially healthy. The time is closely monitored with people standing around just waiting to clear your breakfast dishes – I found that uncomfortable and unwelcoming. It’s a no smoking-hotel and people go outside in a central courtyard area to smoke. My room was situated facing that area and the smoke came directly into my room. After this continued to happen, I complained and it stopped.
Good neighbourhood. The hotel and rooms are well maintained.
I like to walk and this was just a bit too far from the old town and the main area of the new town (but close enough with a taxi/bus). Breakfast buffet isn't restocked (if you wake up late).
Wifi was best I've had in South America, staff were lovely, room was very nice.
Some translation difficulties due to my lack of Spanish, location outside was too residential.
Good overall service.
Weak WIFI. Overpriced Airport pick up price. The Hotel is an hour away from the airport, they charged us $50 to pick us up. A taxi not from the hotel charged us $30 to drive us back to the airport.
I enjoyed my week+ stay at the hotel. I found Ignacio especially helpful on several occasions. The fact that his English was excellent really helped. The hotel is away from the action of Mariscal but for me that was a good thing. It was only a 15-20 minute walk away or 10 minutes by taxi or if you want an adventure, take the bus or trole. The breakfast was your usual bread, juice and fruit - nothing too exciting. Overall it is a very good place to stay in my opinion.
The bed in the "Galapagos" room. I only stayed in that room for one night because the bed was very saggy and made for a bad night's sleep. There was no problem changing for the next night.
Nearby to La Carolina park it's a great place to stay, like been in a colonial house, clean and comfort can be two words that describe my stay. The personal is kind and friendly and the breakfast includes cereals and fruit too, it's a complete meal. The neighborhood is quietful and a great place to take a walk.
The wifi can be improved because it can't be reached at all in the last rooms. But it's a small detail.
The hotel is in a decent, safe, quiet residential neigbourhood and very close to Carolina Park (huge park with various types of sport facilities, the shopping mall El Jardin, and one of the main highways through the city). Staff is excellent and helpful, place is clean. Breakfast could be better but thanks to the various fresh juices, fruits, it will do. And very nearby, accross the street from El Jardin there is an excellent bakery with all kinds of excellent sandwiches at very reasonable prices. Wifi connection was excellent. I will stay at this hotel again.
Had a room on the second floor and often the shower ran out of hot water so better take a shower early or very late in the morning. And don't make phone calls from the hotel, it's very expensive. Go to the Internet/phone shops close by El Jardin.
