This place is located at the edge of the smallest town in Estonia, sleepy Kallaste (originally Krasnye Gory). An Old Believers stronghold for centuries, it preserves its stern order of wooden dwellings along the Lake Peipsi coast. The women are modest and the men are sober. You can experience the previous generations of locals at any of the three historic cemeteries - the best kept ones I've seen for years. Russian is spoken everywhere. The lakeside is a true gem with its beaches, infinity views, red sandstone cliffs and hordes of swallows and other birds rushing about. The owner, a sweet Christian lady, went out of her way to make our stay the most rewarding. She welcomed us at 2 am when we got delayed en route; narrated most of the history of this region; and provided with fresh delicacies from her garden - tomatoes, apples, pear cider etc.
6 hrs waiting time at Ivangorod-Narva border crossing was the one and only setback.
This hotel is a fantastic place where to stay. The owners of this hotel were kind and offered to us the best service. Room was clean and very well equipped.Wi-fi internet, kitchen with all necessary. The Pepsi lake is about 100 m from hotel. We are happy that we found this place and definately we will come back some day. Would like to say many thanks to owners of this hotel!
Our stay at "Peipsi Lake House" was really great, even if it was only for one night. The apartment exceeded all our expectations! It was indeed big for two people and it had everything that a family of four people could wish - jacuzzi bath, sauna, well equipped kitchen including a dish washer, microwave, oven. There were games for children, nice flat TV, free wifi, one large bed and two beds for children in separate room. It also had some romantic lights for romantic evening. There was a carefully made booklet with pictures and information about the history of area, what to visit, where to eat, etc., but the housekeeper told us even more and showed the directions. The red cliffs were just around 5-10 minutes walk away, and there was a nice "staroveri" cemetery nearby. The owners were super friendly, we felt really welcome because they made sure we got the best. Thanks again to the housekeeper for the really wonderful surprise!
Very polite hostess.
