Originally a 16th century convent for The Nuns of the Carmelitas order, this hotel rests in the historic quarter of Baeza, a dreamlike place where time seems to stand still.
Score from 371 reviews Very good
Located in the beautiful, monumental city of Úbeda, this Parador is housed in a former, 16th-century palace and has kept its original, classical-style interior decor.
Score from 180 reviews Very good
Great location in the middle of the old town. Small yet very classy hotel - the rooms were very comfortable, air-conditioned and strong wifi signal. Friendly, helpful staff.
Like all of the hotels in the old town, no on-site parking - free public parking 5-10 mins away however.
The proprietor was extremely helpful and welcoming. The recommendations of where to eat and places to visit were highly valued. Breakfast was incredible. Our room was very comfortable with a lovely on-suite bathroom. I would recommend Hotel Afan de Rivera in a heartbeat.
We stayed in August the hottest month of the year. Our only suggestion would be the addition of a fan in the breakfast area, otherwise everything was perfect!
I cannot rate this place highly enough. The building is beautiful in a perfect location for Ubeda and it is run by the most wonderful gentleman who make your stay an absolute delight. I will definitely be going back.
everything - the Hotel was beautiful - the room was beautifully decorated and spacious, the breakfast was of wonderful locale fare. The owner made you feel like an honoured guest in his home. The atmosphere was delightful filled with classical music and subtle lighting. This is by far the nicest Hotel I have ever stayed in.
Nothing - everything was perfect.
location, wonderful breakfast
breakfast was 9:30, a bit late
I stayed at this hotel July 15-18. I had booked based on what others had said and it is all true-the location, hotel and Jorge. 9.5 for a two star hotel may seem odd but it is deserved. I have already recommended this small hotel to others.
It was all fine.
Hotelier could not do enough for us! Wonderfully atmospheric small hotel....Jorge was the perfect host, immaculately dressed at breakfast (which was ample and quite varied......the coffee and churros were a delight!). Hotel is a little difficultt to find but well worth the effort. Afan de Rivera fully deserves its high 'Booking .com' rating. I highly recommend it!!!!
I can understand some people may find the short window for breakfast limiting (i.e. 9.30-10.30).
Tasteful conversion of a 14th C building. Excellent breakfast. Josh.
Jorge was a great host, he recommended a local restaurant which was excellent. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable.
Nice little hotel. Fantastic advise from its owner Jorge.
Location and friendliness of owner.
The proprietor was very obliging and although he spoke little English, French worked well for communication. The building is quaint and has been expertly converted. The location is excellent for accessing many of the sights.
Access down narrow streets was a bit fraught and parking was difficult. Some advice on approach routes and parking options would be useful. We parked in the central underground parking which, with a card from the hotel, was €12 per day. A bit more maintenance of small things wouldn't come amiss.
Beautiful antique decorated ancient house, right at the historical elegant old centre of Ubeda. Owner with great passion for the city loves everything to make you feel comfortable. Excellent homemade breakfast.
Fully deserves itsvery high rating. Breakfast superb.
As non Spaniards we found 9.30 a little late to start breakfast if you want to make the most of your time in the area
Hotel de Afan de Riviera is a gem owned and managed by another gem named Jorge! We felt cared for in a setting that was well attended and maintained. Imagine staying in a building that hearkens back to the 15th century yet has lovely modern comforts. Quite a treat!. Don't miss out on this wonderful opportunity to stay in one of the memorable small hotels of Spain. My husband and I loved it!
CLEAN rooms, comfortable, upscale, great location, wonderful breakfast, great architecture and great air conditioning! Proprietor obviously takes great pride in his hotel. Limited English.
Small, family run, atmospheric hotel. Great breakfast. It was perfect for the Ubeda visit, located in the old part of the town.
problems with WIFI
The relaxed atmosphere, the welcoming staff and the breakfast
The owner made it such a nice experience. The breakfast was extra special. I would recommend a stay here. VB from Texas
Jorge was charming! We communicated with a mixture of English, French and Spanish, with our host being so patient! The property is lovely, well-appointed and well-situated. Parking right around the corner. The breakfast was the best we had in our 2 weeks in southern Spain. Oh, did I say charming?
Rain in Arcos but out of anyone's control!
very unique building, gracious and charming host, possible to find free parking nearby if you look a bit. wonderful breakfast.
really loud bathroom fun only roof window + very weak air conditioner in one of the rooms triple room is actually a double + sofa bed
This small hotel, similar in several respects to a fine Bed & Breakfast inn in the United States, is a gem. I have stayed in dozens of good hotels throughout Spain but none matches the peaceful, artistically decorated, and charming ambience as well as the quality of the hospitality one finds at the Afán de Rivera. It is also a comfortable and well equipped place and ideally located very close to all the principal sites of architectural, historical, religious, etc. interest. Several good restaurants and taperias are close too. Also nearby is a good overlook to see the vast sweep of the enormous olive groves all around and the mountains beyond the valleys where they grow. What distinguishes the hotel above all, however, is the attentive and informative owner, the delightful Jorge, who not only offers help for any guest's requests but also oversees the serving of a delicious, mostly home-cooked breakfast, with regional specialties and individual recipes of the house, influenced by the cuisine of Menorca. This small hotel is a memorable experience in itself!
Nothing of any consequence
We couldn't believe how charming this hotel was - it really is a an old Renaissance mansion. The renovation was done very tastefully, and the owner is delightful. Also probably the most delicious breakfast I've ever had, even among B&B's.
Center location, owner very nice. Small family hotel with great taste. They meticulously prepared wonderful breakfast for only two of us that morning. Best I had over long time. Will come again.
