This charming, Basque farmhouse has been carefully converted into a pretty, rural hotel, enjoying stunning panoramic views of the regional capital of Bilbao.
Score from 757 reviews Very good
very nice and helpful people.
The location and view from room was spectacular. The food was good and of typical of the region. The owners were as helpful as they good be given the language barrier. Skip Bilbao and the Guggenhiem, drive to the beach town of Zumaia and see/hike the Flysch 65 million year old rock outcropping that is not found anywhere else in the world. San Sebastian is an hour away and on Thursday nights its one euro tapas nights.
No English is spoken here. The host uses a phone with a translator to communicate with you or other guests. This proved extremely difficult when the GPS could not get us to the mountain location using longitude and latitude. IT IS AMAZING HOW SIMPLE IT IS TO GET THERE ONCE YOU KNOW HOW. Even a Spanish speaking guest was lost. You must get good directions into the town and then the road to turn onto, then just keep left watching for the signs all the way up to the top to the end of the road.
Lovely views, peaceful isolated venue but convenient for centre of Bilbao with local trains every 15 minutes. Very friendly service, good simple food, decent breakfast.
Drive up to it might be a bit daunting if you suffer from vertigo.
Lovely views over the tree covered valley and into the distant hills, await you after a perilous 2km drive up a well made but precarious road. The rooms are simple, clean and comfortable. There is a breakfast room, bar, restaurant and terrace which all seem unusual for such a remote destination! The evening menu was varied and available in all languages, although some of the translations were hilarious! The quality of food was excellent and it almost feels like you are one of the family as they ate at a nearby table with spanish CSI on the television in the corner..Although the proprietor, who had the same warped sense of humour as my husband, speaks no english and we do not speak spanish, we had an amazing couple of evenings, gesticulating and using a translating app on the phone! A great stop off before catching the Bilbao to Portsmouth ferry, less than a 30 min drive away..
The room was dusty and The food not really good: the ice cream we re od.
Location and views
Walls were very thin so everything from other rooms could be heard
Hospitality Scenery Food
Very friendly, could not do better.
Cold room on arrival, bar closed, fairly intimidating dogs in drive although harmless.
Extremely tranquil setting. Hosts were very friendly. Views are tremendous and yet the location is relatively close to Bilbao. Very good value for money.
It was very difficult to find even with a sat nav. I went up the wrong road first. The roads are extremely narrow. We did not like being greeted by three barking dogs that roamed freely.
