The owner, Esther, her family and the facilities made the stay at Sosola a memory of a lifetime. Quick to provide the history of the house and of the Eibar/Basque area, with her perspective our trip was enhanced many fold.

Clean, great views, friendly owners, relaxation opportunity, great old building restoration, & Basque tradition.

The village of Eibar is currently having some major highway built through it so access to Sosola is rather difficult by car.

Full of authentic rural charm. Historic building with modern comfort. Very warm welcome from Esther.

Phone ahead to get directions because you will get lost even with a GPS!

Very nice house and the stuff, good breakfast including, nice location between San Sebastian and Bilbao.

Wi-Fi didn't work well downstairs and did not work at all upstairs in our bedroom.

I don't know where to begin... our whole experience here was the highlight of our trip through northern Spain. The proud Basque owner and hostess, Esther, was wonderful and accommodating. Since she knew no English and I no Spanish (nor Basque, of course!), she had her summer agriculture student do some interpreting for us and gave us some interesting history on the mansion and the region to help us appreciate our experience. The home is amazing... how she managed to restore an 800-year-old home to this degree of modernity is beyond me. Everything was impeccable and tastefully decorated to the era, with all the comfort of a modern hotel. We loved our suite with the sloping beamed ceiling and view up the mountain to the sheep and cows in the distance. Breakfasts were abundant and made to order, served professionally in an elegant formal dining area with views of the mountain. Wifi is better on the main floor, so we enjoyed using our computer from her grande living room. Everything about the home is charming and enveloping... even their cheerful sheep dogs. From Eibar, all the sights of San Sebastian and Bilbao (and Zarrautz, and Orio...) are easily navigated, with the reward of returning to your little piece of paradise on the mountain later. We can't say enough about this place... Esther was amazing and so is the property. Wish we could return.

The first time you drive up that little winding road out of Eibar, you will panic and your heart will be in your throat until you climb the mountain to her serene estate. But Esther is right: the second time you do the drive, it's no big deal. Just part of the charm. We had no trouble at all locating it with our GPS. I miss that little drive already...

Very friendly small b&b, with a historic and very well renovated building in the middle of Basque mountains. Ester is a veru pleasant host, and while she doesnt speak much english she commujicates quite well and takes care and pride in your comfort.

The road up to the house is slightly challenging.

When we arrived after a long journey, we were so welcomed by Hesther, it felt like being part of her family. We were shown around and the house had a wonderful feeling, especially knowing it dated from 12th century. The views to the mountains were so beautiful, i wish we were staying there longer. The owner was very friendly and made our daughter feel special, cooking something she liked. We fell in love with this place and hope to return one day.

A bit of a steep track up the mountain, but the mighty WV still made it.

The hotel - (actually the word "castle" describes it better...) is located in a marvels place. close enough to the city but isolated. perfect for someone (or loving couple) who want to find a unique "piece-of-art" to relax, with the option of touching almost anywhere in the Basque Country within reasonable driving time (30 minute to Sun-Sebastian and Bilbao) The food is Great. Hospitality is lovely and warm. And Basque Country's views is something unforgettable! I was there solo. but Certainly I'll take my wife to Sosola for a honeymoon (when she comes...) Just 2 important notes: 1) It is not recommended by get there by public transport 2) Don't try to put hotel's address (Mandiola, 36, 20600 Éibar) in the GPS... it will leads you to nowhere... All you get to do is: * Let the GPS leads you to Eibar. * Don't enter the city of Eibar! * Drive a little bit further on the highway - towards Sun-Sebastian * After 2 or 3 kilometers you will see a sign leads you to a neighborhood called: "Amaña" (which pronounced like "Amania") * The hotel is somewhere there.
