Apartamentos CandilejasFomento, 25, 01.Centro, 28013 Madrid (Show map) Excellent, Score from 132 reviews“access to the many sights of the city centre. Hospitality of Juan, the owner. who even took us back to the airport.”

These apartments are located in an new building on a quiet street in the center of Madrid, only a 3 minute walk from Palacio Real, Teatro Real, and the Cathedral. Apartamentos Candilejas is also only a 7 minute walk to the Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor and 110 yards from Gran Via and Plaza España. This hotel's central location is ideal and places it close to plenty of bars, restaurants, cafeterias and shops. The apartments are ideal for visitors who are looking for more independence and intimacy than a traditional hotel provides - but still require a high level of attention and service, such as cleaning services. Juan was extremely helpful, printing our boarding cards for us and holding our luggage after checkout time, leaving us to enjoy our last afternoon in Madrid without encumbrance. The location was perfect for sites at the north end of the Gran Via, including the Royal Palace and the Opera. Based on excellent reviews of previous guests we booked the 2 bedroomed attic apartment but this turned out to be a real disappointment. Whilst the bedrooms were adequate on space, the living area was cramped and uncomfortable for three adults, the kitchenette was tiny and the shower room boasted the smallest sink we had ever seen. The whole place needs updating and repainting, some of the furniture needs replacing and the broken shower head, mentioned by a visitor some months ago, still hasn´t been repaired. The beds are on the hard side of firm and there are no pillows, only bolsters. Whilst the street outside may be quiet for Madrid be prepared for a clanking lift located in a shaft just behind the bedhead.

The owner Juan who despite having little english and us having no spanish was extremely welcoming and helpful he even allowed us to stay in our apt until evening as we had a late flight. We also had no need to use metro or other transport during our stay as the location of the apts were perfect for sights museums shopping and eating out. Only one thing the tiny handwash basin in the bathroom.

I think the best thing about this apartment was Juan. He was incredibly hospitable and helpful, even though my Spanish was minimal and his English was as well. He brought us a bottle of wine to welcome us to the room. He took a city map and showed us where all of the sites were and how to get to them. This apartment is pretty centrally located with a short walk to the Royal Palace and also to the tour company, Julia Tours, which was an excellent company to tour with. We took the tour to Toledo, which was the hightlight of our stay in Madrid. I would definately recommend this apartment. The only thing I could say about the aparment was that the "living room" area was a little small and awkward. But that being said, we were hardly ever in the apartment, so that small little detail wouldn't be a deal breaker.

This is a block of nice refurbished self-catering apartments in Madrid city centre. On a quiet one way narrow street in a working class area. The apartments are well located, next to Plaza España. Our apartment had a very small kitchen and not the mentioned oven but had a small hob and a very small bathroom/shower (not with in the advertisement mentioned power shower). It was the apartment 2A on number 25 Calle Fomento 25, Madrid. (It has one living room, a very small kitchen, a very small bathroom/shower, one bedroom all behind each other and makes it a long apartment) and an individual safety box in the bedroom. During the night it is very quiet. In the evening on the street side only sometimes noise from a kind of Internet "shop" opposite the street run by Chinese. There is a TV with a system to watch a few (satellite) TV programs, unfortunately only some not interesting programs in Spanish. Nothing international. In total it was a nice stay.

The owner (Juan) is extremely helpful. He tries the most to accommodate the requests from the guests. And does that on a genuine way that makes you feel truly welcomed. The apartments are well located, just next to Plaza de Espanha and to the start of Gran Via. Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor are within a 10min walk. Inspite of being central, the street where the apartments are located is quiet. We were travelling in family with two younger kids. We have stayed on one of the attic apartments, with two rooms, two bathrooms, a living area and a well equipped kitchenette – stove, microwave, washing machine… There’s a El Corte Ingles supermarket at Gran Via where you can buy everything you need to prepare your own meals. We dine on the apartment avoiding the (very) late Spanish dining schedule – that could well ruin your next morning plans… The apartment would benefit from some refurbishment. There’s peeling paint on some walls on the upper floor and on the bathroom wooden doors. The apartment furniture is basic and some pieces are showing signs of worn out due to (uncareful) usage– namely the dining table with multiple marks on the top. The apartment don’t have a car park. There’s a nearby car park at Plaza de Espanha, 200m away, but charges you almost 30€ a day… (Once again, Juan was extraordinary as he ‘reserved’ a parking place for us on the apartment street by parking his own car there).

Great location. The owner, Juan, is very helpful and the flat has most things you need. The bedroom is at the back overlooking a garden courtyard so it's very quiet. Our toddler slept well in the cot provided. If you need to use the sofa bed in the lounge beware that it's hugely uncomfortable (the bedroom bed is great though). Opposite the lounge is Bar Fascination which opens from 11.30pm to 4am so if using the sofa bed you won't get much sleep unless you're going to sample the madrid night life yourself!

The location was great. Very close to commodities (metro etc.). The street was pretty calm in a very secured neighborhood. I feel they rest on their laurels a bit in regards with the decoration of the room. However, regardless, the appartment was still very cosy.

We chose the apartments mainly because we wanted a quiet place to stay whilst in a convenient location for getting around Madrid and that is exactly what we got. Hardly heard a sound from other apartments in the building and absolutely no noise during the night as the bedroom is at the rear well away from the street. Juan was waiting to meet us with the key at the agreed time and gave us a warm welcome, his gift of a bottle of wine was a nice touch. He offered, unasked, to let us stay on until late afternoon on the day of departure as we had an evening flight, which was much appreciated. The lounge and bedroom were spacious and the apartment well equipped and very clean, wi-fi worked well. Our bed linen and towels were changed on the Friday although we were leaving on Saturday. We would certainly stay here again. The kitchen was only really adequate for preparing breakfast, which didn't bother us as we didn't use it otherwise. The washbasin in the bathroom is tiny which meant that water splashed over the floor whenever it was used.

The apartment is perfectly located near subway, Plaza Espana, and central Madrid of tourist interest is just a few blocks away. It is very clean and very well equipped. Large in size and on a very quiet street. Excellent price.!!! Juan is ready and willing to help in any manner. I rent apartments worldwide and this one is in the top 10% of any I have stayed. Given the fair price I cannot believe there is any better deal anywhere in this city. Next time in Madrid I would not think of searching anywhere else.

Juan, the manager, is a very friendly and helpful person (thank you for the bottle of wine!). The location is great to take a walk by the city center. Very quiet street. The bathroom is a bit small and we were charged 2% more to pay with visa card.

A very good location and a nice building. The manager was very helpful on our check in day, and even left a bottle of wine, but nowhere to be seen thereafter. The apartment was fairly modern and spacious, but this is an apartment and not a hotel with services, etc. The apartment slept four, but in two very, very small double beds. I'm simply too big to share such a bed for more than a few nights. For a mom with three small children, it might be ideal.

Juan gave us the best welcoming one could ask for...which set the tone for a tour of a very well furnished apartment. Extremely quiet at night. Can not get any better location behind the Gran Via and walking distance to all major tourist attractions Shopcoholics will be in heaven. Safety was never an issue even at wee hours, to make things better the police station is half of block away. Highly recommended.....six STARS....Plaza Espana Metro a block away makes transportation as far as the airport a trip. Such a personal services not encountered nowhere else yet Gracias Juan te pasastes

Right in the centre of the city around the corner from Gran Via and Plaza de Espana. Metro station is on Plaza de Espana also. The bed was very comfortable and the living room was clean and had a nice view. Street seemed safe and there was a police station just a few buildings up from the apartments. The cleaning staff will provide clean towels in the morning if you need them. The staff dont speak much english but are very patient and any problems are quickly sorted out. Very happy with our stay there and would stay in the same place when in Madrid again.

Loved the little balcony off the main room, great to enjoy the early morning sunshine, felt quite safe. Great location for access to metro and several sightseeing locations. We walked to many areas nearby Stairs to upper floor quite dangerous and need to be very careful both going up and down. Very odd footing on these stairs.

location superb, everything that a family of two small children needs was there, quiet and easilbly accessible, It was an enjoyable experience Parking issues is a serious issue particularly with us comming at the hight of a rain storm in a city which one knows little about. Better guidance is needed to assist guests who have the requirenet to find parking.

Volveremos seguro.
