Central location, staff
Very clean and quiet. The shower had hot water and there were sufficient outlets. Very nice staff and awesome location.
the style of the room and the terrace
We stayed here for 4 nights and i think its no value for money. Apart from being at a good location, this resort has nothing. The pool is very small, and no part seen at there beach. Charges for LOCKER (SAFE) in room. charges for wifi. charges for eveerything
We booked one room for 3 persons travelling with a teenager. We selected this Hostal because it is centrally located (3minutes walking from "Puerta del Sol, 5 minutes from Plaza Mayor). We initially booked a triple room. When we arrived, the attendant at front desk offered us to have 2 rooms instead of one (1 double + 1 single) for the same price than the triple room. We, of course, accepted the offer. Both rooms were air-conditioned, very clean, with a TV set. Bathroom was clean as well. The hostal is on 5th floor with elevator. It is possible to find any kind of restaurant in the immediate neighborhood for just some euros. Front desk was very helpful providing us map and all advices we may need to make our stay as pleasant as possible (stop for open deck buses, opening time of museums). We highly recommend this Hostal.
The only minus I could notice is that the window of our room was straight at the lift shaft.
I'd worried a bit about my choice of hotel, because I could see no trace of it when looking at "Street View" on Gooogle Maps. But Hostal Astoria is ideally placed, with an exceptionally discreet entrance on Carrera de San Jeronimo, 5 minutes walk from the Prado, 2 minutes from Puerta del Sol, and with numerous cafes and bars nearby. The hotel had everything I needed, including a computer + printer for guests' use (boarding pass!), and a weighing machine to check hand luggage limits (Ryan Air!). My room was small, but the Air / Con and TV both worked well and the little bathroom was perfectly adequate. Hard to beat at the price, if you just need a room for a few nights - or a week!
The location was more than central, we didn't use the metro at all since we enjoy walking around. Prado museum is 5minutes away by feet. Excellent cleaning and the rooms are functionable.
The WiFi is fast from the mobile but from the desktop they have that you can use it isn't so fast.
After traveling around Europe for over a month we were so pleasantly surprised by the Astoria! It was beautiful, a the location was perfect!
I have stayed at hostal Astoria a few times. Always a good option for central Madrid. Very helpful and pleasant staff.
Excellent location. Good price
room next to the reception was a bit noisy.
wifi did not work on the 4th floor
It was very centrally located. The room was clean and nice.
It could be very noisy. There was a group of college students who made a lot of noise pretty late.
La ubicación excelente y el trato del personal
No tengo quejas
Great location, excellent wifi and friendly, professional staff. The room was quite small but very clean. I'd definitely stay there again.
The bed was a bit uncomfortable.
The location of the hostal is ideal if you're spending a week-end (or more) wandering around the city. If you're looking for a simple and clean place to stay in the center of Madrid, this one is good value for money. I would recommend it !
Nothing I can think of
Location was great. Place was kept very clean. Very nice and helpful staff.
Room very tiny, and dark! The lights are not bright at all - couldn't do much reading! TV with only Spanish channels - even movies dubs to Spanish. Pay 1 Euro per time you wish to lock the safe. Safe was NOT very "safe", since it's locked with a key (can be easily duplicated by former users) NOT your personal code and since the safe was not mounted to the wall or closet, and can be lifted easily! Free luggage storage, yet since it was not kept in a locked room, I was a bit worried. In addition, when I came to pick up my luggage, I was told just to go and pick up mine - nothing was really checked against the luggage I took, so basically I could have picked up other luggage as well. Noisy at night, yet kept my window slightly open for some air; this window was also an opening to a tiny shared balcony, so the next room guests could have easily just enter my room via my window. Overall I was happy with my stay :)
excellent location and very kind staff
No wifi in the room - absolutely nothing! When I spoke to reception she said her phone was working there so she didnt see a problem! Filthy room dust levels were a month old at least! Location was okayish - walkable distance to Prado Puerta del Sol Plaza Mayor etc.Restuarants on that area were overpriced though
Situation perfect and very good public transport links close by. Taxis around. I love this area for the infinite variety of food and interesting little shops especially Calle Prado and Leon.
Slight noise problems at night
Location is excellent, right in the city center, close to the main galleries
The was no proper window in the room, just a small one (30 x 30 cm) high at wall. You could hear TV from the next room whole night.
I really likes the stuff and wifi was extremely quick! The location is very centrical, Astoria is like a three star hotel it's more than an ordinary hostel. I will definitely recommend it to everybody!
All was perfect
Location is excellent, beds comfortable, wi-fi (but slow) in the room, reception staff very helpful, our room had a small Madrid-style balcony.
Maid put our pajamas from the bed on the top of our very dirty luggage (thanks not on the floor!), awful! Put all your belongings inside the luggage and close it while away as during room service the doors of the rooms are wide open with nobody nearby. Don't be deceived by the hostel photos - some rooms are extremely tiny and old! Our first room also had an unbearable smell from the restaurant, we were moved to another room the same night, very tiny but good.
