The best thing was the friendly and helpful staff. Location was excellent also.

Matresses were a little bit too hard.

This was my third stay and once again this hotel did not disappoint! Had two galfriends with me - 3 amigas in the big city- what a great time. Wonderful staff; great location and superb value. Will return... Every time I am in Madrid.

Location in the city centre.

You have to keep in mind, that you are in the centre - noise from outside might be disturbing.

The staff were absolutely wonderful - all spoke english and all were happy to offer me advice with anything I needed. Location is also very central (a min from puerta del sol or gran via). Rooms were comfortable and a good size, though quite basic. Breakfast was enjoyable, with scrambled or boiled eggs, ham and cheese, yoghurts and fruit.

The noise levels are just atrocious.. I am pretty sure the windows are single glazed, and I havent stayed in a hotel with single glazing for as long as I can remember! The noise that was coming through was ridiculous - literally all day and night there are a variety of loud noises to keep you awake or simply unrelaxed and constantly disturbed. Also, the room was freeeezing (my stay was last weekend of october but weather was hot) but cold air was coming through the closed balcony doors. I moved room and this was the case in both rooms.

Not knowing Madrid we chose Ateneo as it was very central. The hotel is certainly in the central hub of the city and the area is alive day and night. Excellent place to make a base and the hotel was better than we'd hoped. The owner and staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was a treat. Good soundproofing between rooms and the air-con helped drown out some of the low level street noise at night. Would stay at Ateneo again anytime, just great.
