I stayed at the Best Western Carlos v Hotel in Madrid for a Family 50th Birthday Weekend. Ages in the group ranged from 12 to 53 years of age. The hotel was comfortable and located right in the middle of the city centre, just off Gran Via. Rooms were spotlessly clean & comfortable but small for the amount of people squeezed in. We had around 10 rooms (to accommodate groups of 2, 3 & 4 people so I saw all sizes of rooms). The hotel was central to shops, plazas, bars & restaurants and within walking distance to all the tourist things to see & do. There was a 'Happy Hour' from 5-7pm every evening where wine, sangria, beer & sherry are 'buy one get one free' This was great value (if you could get served as the bar was not staffed at all times, see comments below). The rooms were small, especially if used to their full capacity, no room to move around if all occupants were in the room at the same time. On the first night, with temperatures of minus 8 degrees (-8), the hotel heating was turned off!!! It was off from about 2am til 7am. We thought it was just our room until next morning when we spoke with others in our party who reported the same. Apparently, the hotel turns the heating off at night. After complaints, this did not happen again. All the frontline staff (reception, bar, waiting on) were male & sadly the majority were either surly or just rude, especially the bar staff who would disappear for ages, particularly just before 7pm when 'Happy Hour' finishes! The male reception staff were not very friendly either, no smiles or conversation. The only female staff we saw were chambermaids and they were lovely, warm & friendly.

In October I stayed 7 nights in a double room on the 3rd floor in the interior of this hotel which is in the quiet area. However, there was an irritating noise coming from the pipes behind the heater- this couldn't be switched off so perhaps it was simply it's location near this room (305).The desk clerk let me check against other rooms nearby and my room was definitely louder.Apart from this everything about this hotel is of an excellent standard.Clean, comfortable room with a good size bathroom and provision of amenities- fridge,safe,tea/coffee service.Buffet breakfast with a range of provisions, in a very pleasant dining room where daily Happy hour also takes place. There was also an internet service here. Desk clerks spoke adequate English and were courteous and helpful. The location cannot be beaten! You will be on a pedestrian street near all the roads needed to access the various tourist sites.Nearby you have a range of eateries.Price, location, hotel standard, friendly staff.......you can't go wrong by staying at the Carlos V. christine (Australia)

The location is key. In the center of Madrid, close to many sites and convenient Metro access. Loved having a room with a roof terrace. Great spot to see the city and people watch.

Staff very friendly and accomodating. They stored two pieces of luggage for several days without charging us but we stayed @ the same hotel before and after a side trip.

The staff at this hotel were efficient and friendly. On arrival, the porter who helped with my bags provided me with a local map and a whole lot of useful tips and information. The breakfast room is a happy place, due mainly to Domingo who is in charge there. He has such a welcoming attitude and a kind word for everyone. The breakfast was great, the room was large enough, as was the bathroom. This is definitely a hotel I will use again when in Madrid.

It is very accessible to and from Airport via renfe trains. It is right in the center of shopping area and may museums, tourist sites are accessible by foot ( if you like walking). The staff are helpful in helping us find places and the place safe and quiet even in evenings. We were lucky to get the family room at the promo price. It was quite comfortable for 4 of us.

Not a damn thing. It was a horrible location w/uncomfortable beds and pillows. The street noise was constant and unbearable for 24 hours straight, it never stopped. There were lousy street bands, noisy vendors, beggars, prostitutes and police or ambulance sirens all through the nite. There was no sleep at all!

Location is just perfect!stayed in 4 other hotels in Madrid before and this one was the best! But there are 2 downsides to it which didn't bother me but might be a bit of the the problem for somebody else:1.The bed was like a rock hard, even though I don't like soft beds this one was to tough for me.2.On the weekend everybody is out until 4 a.m. so if you have problem sleeping you should ask for an inside room, otherwise you gonna stay awake and even might wanna go out like all the rest of the people on the streets:)

The location of the hotel is excellent and is very near the Sol square. All the restaurants are within walking distance. The hotel is very clean and they have a very good buffet breakfast. There was tea and coffee making facilities if you asked but getting the tea bags, milk and coffee was difficult and we had to ask every day for extra supplies.
