It's a unique but old building that hasn't had enough money spent on making it a truly comfortable place to stay. The only appealing thing is its antiquity Our expensive suite (Room 201 on second floor) was dreadful and definitely not worth the money. Dark, dingy, small uncomfortable bed, sunken bath without real shower, awful facilities really. Hardly any natural light and only a couple of light-bulbs behind very dark light-shades. And the internet was inaccessible on that floor

Interesting, very different hotel, has character and is very pleasant, but the art on display is not going to appeal to many. We have stayed before and been very happy with this one night stop-over for our long journey from Zurich to Marbella. But this time through no fault of the hotel we had a very bad night, we could not sleep! It was 'the three kings' night (6th January) and our room overlooked the narrow street, it sounded like people were just below our window (closed with the shutters closed too) but they were so loud till about 4 in the morning. Then at about 7am the bins were dragged out over cobble stones! We had less than 3 hours sleep that night!!! But this is not usual, however we would never stay over again, when there are likely to be festivities.

Wonderful layout and warm atmosphere. A cosy environment where one could relax and be with family or friends at any time of the day. Old world charm without the dusty neglect. Perfect location, close to old town with oodles of charm.

Lovely building, great location for town restaurants, bars and shops. Huge room and comfortable bed. Interesting art in room and public spaces. We loved our stay here and there was very little to not like, the main thing would be that the shower in our 'superior' room was just a hose on the bath taps without even a wall bracket. And keeping both our passports at the very public reception desk for the duration of our stay - what is the purpose of that? We had already paid and they had our card details, it makes an uncomfortable worry in the back of one's mind (well, mine anyway) and spoils the experience of being a customer at an otherwise lovely hotel.

This is a charming hotel, with a fantastic location in Denia. It was built in the 1850's and the tile work and wood detail are fantastic. The staff was extremely friendly, and the breakfast was good too! You are within walking distance of all shops and the harbor. Try the restaurants just around the corner from the hotel for very authentic Spanish food. Our only regret was that we only had the one night!

A quirky hotel that has seen better days, but in a great location. Park your car and forget about it. Take a walk up to the castle, the views are stunning. Look out for the Italian restaurant on the tree-lined high street, the foods great. Stroll around Denia or search along the coast line for those little bays; it's our third stay at the Chamarel, so that should tell you all you need to know!

Good location, very nice large room and bathroom, very good breakfast, friendly staff. We travel often from Zurich to Marbella and this was our second night's stop-over. When this hotel is full in high season (August) we could hear doors to bedrooms being shut - rather loud, whilst trying to sleep! We have stayed a few times before (but at other times of the year) without being disturbed. But this last time some guests were rather noisy near our room. This is not the hotels fault. But it would be good if somehow the bedroom doors could be made to be closed and locked more quietly.

The design and style of the rooms is great and unique. Rooms are noisy from the street (people walking home from bars and restaurants late at night, street cleaning machines passing everyday at 6.30 A.M.) and then you hear all the guests using the stairs and even opening of the doors from other rooms as well as the preparation of the people doing the breakfast in the entrance hall. Choice at the breakfast is limited. Spanish breakfast personal was rather unfriendly, and we had to eat on dirty table napkins used by other ones before. The hotel was inflexible when we asked to reduce our stay for one day, on the contrary they did not have a room for us the first night and asked us to arrive later.

Although it was a step back in time like the 1950'S. it was very unusual and relaxing. Breakfast in the garden was lovely. We liked the old world spanish atmosphere and we will definately come again as a retreat from my work. We will reccommend it also to friends. Gillian steff No lift but this added to the character of the building

Charming 19th century boutique hotel with art nouveau style. Comfortable, clever mix of oldworld and modern. Lovely antique furniture - capturing the feel of the house of style and sophistication it was until turned into a hotel 6 years ago. Simple breakfast. Initially dodgy wifi but restful and sophisticated, right in the heart of the very Spanish, not too many foreign tourists, Denia.

Loved the ambience, artwork and location. Good value for money. The staff were very helpful. There is lots of street noise if you get a room at the front of the building. After one night we moved to a room at the back. There is also very little soundproofing and you can hear every little noise from adjoining rooms. The pillowcase was too short for the pillow and this exposed the edge of a rather grubby pillow .

The staff were very helpful and the hotel was extremely clean. The hotel is unfortunately beside a bar, which was very noisy with music playing well into the early hours of the morning. We had to move rooms as it was impossible to sleep. The TV in the room is worthless to foreign visitors as it only shows Spanish TV.

The ambiance in the hotel was excellent, the breakfast was fresh and the rooms were clean and welcoming. Not sure what to make about the art - a bit macabre! The vision of a leg hanging on a string is not particularly restful in a bedroom.

Great B and B. Very unique and old world. Great location. Short stroll to beach and gateway to Ibiza. Spacious room on top floor. Dim lighting and very spotty internet connection, if at all in our top floor room. But no big deal, WiFi downstairs excellent.

I loved the hotel's ambience, the "quirky" decor mixing old and modern, the tranquillity, the feeling of staying in a house rather than a hotel - and the owner and staff made mine a perfect stay. Having to leave at the end of my stay! I was able to stay for a third night, when my partner - who had been in hospital in Denia - was able to join me at the hotel. The staff were wonderful and made all the necesary arrangements for me.
