Location was good
Space, or rather lack there of. Weak water pressure, like showering under an eye dropper. No smoking signs but clearly there is smoking in the rooms as highlighted by the smell and ashtrays in room. Very noisy, from both otehr rooms and street.
Fantastic Location, friendly staff and clean.
We stayed at Hostel Chelo in early September 2014, and whilst the place was clean and the staff were friendly, we had some serious concerns about management. Firstly, items went missing from our room, and room was entered (& cleaned) despite the do not disturb sign on the door. Secondly, and of greater significance, we returned to our room one evening to find the set of master keys left in our lock. These had clearly been left in our door throughout the day, enabling anyone access to our room and our belongings. We appreciate that this was no doubt an accident, but the fact remains that our property was put at risk by staff member's carelessness. Considering this was the master set of keys it is troubling that their absence had gone unnoticed by management. The hotel is in a great location and as previously mentioned is a welcoming and clean environment, however we would struggle to recommend this hotel based on our experience here.
The lady is so nice very willing to help you. The hostal is few minutes away from Gran Via and Fuencarral. It is clean, neat and very good for its value.
There is nothing I didn't like but just worth to mention: There are no toiletries (but it does not say on the page that there are, so take care of your own toiletries). Although the towels were clean, they needed to be replaced as they seem a little old.
I loved the cleanliness of the room and the friendliness of the staff. It was like a homestay arrangement. The location couldn't have been better. I could walk everywhere, especially to the Prado and the Reina Sofia that I was very keen to visit. There's also a huge shopping street just a block away.
Spotless, squicky clean;most welcoming host, Maria Antoanetta; and it is so well situated to reach all the major attractions. Though tiny and in no way special the room made me feel so at home. And the price is excellent considering the location. But don't forget, this is a hostel, not the Ritz!
If one's neighbors are noisy you may be in a liftle bit of trouble falling asleep, given the layout. Spotty wi-fi.
The street noise kept us awake all night
the staff (a lady) was very nice. she explained to me everything with a smile. the room was nice and clean. the location is amazing, very central and the price is very good considering that I was 2 minutes far from gran via.
Marvelously cared for by innkeeper.
Walls thin but may be normal for old building.
Gret location in the centre of Madrid, very close to Gran Via. You can feel independent because you are given keys to the room (and also fron door to the building), so you can get in or leave anytime you want. The building has a lift, which is a plus, because the hostel is located on the third floor. Room simple but cheap and tidy, towels included, good WiFi signal - I really recommend this hostel if you are not a demanding traveller.
The view from the window was at the patio so I could see the vindow of a room where reception desk was located. That eans that the reception lady could see everything I do in my room - until I wound down the roller blind.
The lady was very kind, she was cleaning the room every day and the location was excellent.
There was a constant unpleasant smell in the bathroom and the walls are very thin, so we could hear every little noise coming from other rooms (even at 5am in the morning). Also, i would prefer the walls of the room to be more clean, cause in general the place was very clean.
We stayed in a double room with private bathroom. The room was clean enough (it was cleaned every day) and had all comforts (including flat screen tv, for those interested). The location was central, between Gran Via and La Chueca. The lady running the hostel speaks English too.
The room and bathroom were small, but this was not important for us. The bathroom had an unpleasant smell (possibly from drainage) and had no ventilation (window or other). Although we had sent a notice for night arrival, no one was answering the door bell and we had to make a phone call, but then they opened immediately. Be careful: the hostel's sign is not easily seen from the street level, so you have to pay attention to the street number and ring the Chelo door bell (Chelo occupies only half of the 3rd floor of this building). Despite of the minus points mentioned, the overall impression and value for money was good.
staff very helpful esp son who got me full timetable for trains and buses to Salamanca
On a return visit was given room which was noisy
