The position is exceptional inside an old castle on top of a huge rock overlooking a large lake.
There was no reading light
The position is fantastic.
There was no bedside lamp.
Spectacular views of lakes and surrounding countryside Liked our little cottage with travel cot all ready for us and our baby. Liked having wifi in castle Really liked the food at the wedding dinner Liked the little private bar we were given access to for just the wedding party Loved the bedrooms if the other guests who were staying in the castle. Wished we had picked that option rather than the cottage
No wifi or phone signal in our cottage Cottage very dark Cobbled streets and ascent from carpark extremely difficult with pram. Even with baby bjorn I felt unsure if my footing and worried about skipping with the baby Didn't feel very secure in cottage alone with baby while husband was in castle Bit noisy in cottage. People upstairs and right beside us partying until late Scary ascent and descent to castle
perfect location and perfect view
In general the room looked clean but there were some hair on the floor of the bathroom and the mainroom which gave us the sense it wasn't that clean after all.
Unique location with interesting distant view of Gibralter. Excellent restoration of a castle with a real feel of the middle ages. Well off the standard tourist bus route. Perfect for the self guided tourist.
Food in the adjoining hotel restaurant was a disappointment.
Fantastic view from a magnificent castle. The room was very nice and special in the tower. The village inside the castle was very romantic. The food was nice.
Amazing scenery, good for bird-watching.
Deserted in the evening, as most people leave. Challenging drive up the hill.
Location. Food in Bar El Cortijo was amazing. Stunning views. Room decor was very nice. Friendly staff.
Room only had one chair even though it was a double room, could have done with 2 arm chairs to sit at the balcony and enjoy the views. Extra pillows would have been nice. Wifi was non existent. No hot water on the second day. TV was too small. Food in restaurant was over priced and presentation was poor.
Location, location and the location. Try the Culinart restaurant/bar, nice hippie vibe.
This place has amazing views and unparalleled solitude. Be sure to help yourself to the castle rooftop. The village is sparcely populated and our casa rural was next to some privately owned homes and shops. The casa was rustic, spacious, and the kids loved it. We had a good salad for dinner at the hotel restaurant. The waiter helped us avoid ordering too much food.
My husband banged his head a number of times on the low ceilings. The town does not offer much to do. The restaurant is a bit pricey. There apparently are some other places to eat but they were closed during our stay.
The location is stunning with some of the best inland views in Spain. The village is unique and well worth a visit.
We had booked a cottage but when we went inside we found it very old fashioned and scruffy and also had only one bathroom when two were advertised. The staff arranged for us to go into the main hotel which had very clean rooms with A/C and wonderful views over the countryside.
We rented one of the houses (Casa Rural 3) inside the castle walls. It was ideal for a 'get away from it all' break and precisely what we had expected; though as I had visited the castle/village before I had an good idea what to expect. Restaurant (in the village inside the castle walls rather than in the main castle building) is reasonably priced and in addition to the small cafe in the main building there are also two independent bars inside the walls and one just outside which do snacks / tapas / raciones and a small village shop (very limited opening hours) for self-catering needs.
Dog mess around the village inside the walls which neither the residents (whose dogs leave the mess) nor the council streetsweeper seemed to be too bothered about.
Stunning location. Views from our room were amazing. Looking down on a medieval village, lake, forest and with Gibraltar and Africa in the background!
Difficult access for young families or elderly. But well worth the climb from the car once at the castle
Location is fantastic and very unique with the hotel in the castle. The views are out of this world. The rooms are also individual and spacious.
For a place that could have so much character, something was missing with the atmosphere.
The staff were very personable and helpful. The hotel itself and rooms were decorated very sympathetically with regard to the overall style of the existing structure. The views were fantastic. I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone.
The Value for money aspect. The views were some of the best we've seen in Spain from any hotel!
They didn't have any red wine in the cafe bar!
The room and the view was fantastic !
The breakfast served in the hotel was very poor. The restaurant belonging to the hotel has to learn a lot. For instance to warm the place so the guests don´t have to wear jackets on to keep warm. And also to serve warm food. !!
The room was very quirky with a lounge and a second bedroom/bathroom as well as a private roof terrace. Views were spectacular.
Wi-Fi was very poor
We liked the setting of the rural houses in the castle, the scenery is beautiful.
The floors of the rooms were not very clean at all. I had to sweep and mop in the bedroom, and it looked like there had been no cleaning under the beds for a long time. There were very poor facilities in terms of food. Our children are young and were asleep by 7.30pm however the restaurant was not open till 8pm. There was a small shop selling groceries but it was not open on the Sunday. Thank goodness I had brought some snacks and fruit, to get us through as the castle is pretty out of the way, and parking is scarce it would have been very inconvenient to ave to drive somewhere to look for provisions.
Excellent landscape, attractive surroundings, tidy place.
Very limited possibilities to find shop, kiosk or pub/restaurant. For safety's sake reserve enough food and drink with you if all places are closed as were during our visit.
The property ( rural house) was cold, blinds were missing from some windows. There was a wood burner and not fireplace as advertised.
Wow what a location, stunning, even on a rainy day, will be back when the sun shines! All good!! As for location, you need a head for heights , Saw 3 eagles, fantastic!!
Breakfast was ok but very basic, even for Spain, but I did not mind I am not that fussy, but there will be some that would complain.
