A few relatively simple touches could really elevate this way beyond its physically lofty location. Breakfasts, even at a inexpensive €7, were very limited. Prepared fresh fruit, natural yoghurt, croissants or danish pastries would add to the continental breakfast selection. A jug of ice would be a nice touch to accompany the fresh orange juicer (this was a nice touch by the way) as otherwise the orange juice is warm. We stayed in a cottage which was attached to a small chapel; it needed to not have the cheapest plastic trolly to house the cooking and eating utensils, nor a plastic sieve - IKEA is not far away in Jerez and would have uplifted the impression. Rock-hard pillows didn't help sleep. The upstairs bedroom was spacious, although the rails are dangerous for small children. The dining/sitting/kitchen area is claustrophobic, although there is a large, vine sheltered terrace outside. At the poolside there wooden sun loungers (only three) lacked comfortable padding, whilst there was a selection of deck-chairs and chairs. It would look classier if they were all replaced with nice sun loungers, around the pool and in the grassy area above. The latter area was set up for a wedding with a bar, old-wagon and a few chairs. It has incredible potential as the views from here are amazing towards the Sierra de Grazlema and hills before Arcos, yet the bar wasn't open and even if it was open for the sundowner period it would add a special touch (even an honesty bar if staffing might be an issue). I may sound overly critical: I work in hotel marketing and I'm doing this review as I really want this place to improve as it could be really exceptional with a few simple touches. Other than these comments the big disappointment from my family was the equestrian centre being closed, and spotted amongst a heard of cows on the land close to the property was a hobbled horse with its two front legs tied together.
Amazingly beautiful, historic old building in an elevated promontory offering expansive rural views. It felt very homely with the owners family present. Honesty bar and ice cold-water on draft tap. The swimming pool and gardens a welcome relief from the August heat.
