this is a great place to stay.. staff very friendly and helpful... Room very clean and breakfast amazing.. would stay there again...
there was nothing I did not like ..
Helpful and friendly staff.
Hotel a bit tired, basic room, toilet leaked.
Location to the slopes, breakfast buffet, ski rental store
Old fashioned furniture, poor wifi signal.
staff were really friendly, location is excellent and breakfast is fine.
was a bit dated but is good value
Super friendly staff. old , but OK
noicy, a LOT of school kids. a bit too far away from the station, when having small kids! (4 years old)
Location - ski rental on site.Good meal (buffet) at the restaurant.
Noise on the corridors, when guests were rusing with their bags on wheels.
close to the slopes, so you can ski in and ski out.
The rooms are small and very basic. The staff were not very friendly and did not have local knowledge. There was no possibility to park anywhere. The hotel is at the wrong end of a one way street and not clearly signed. There was wifi but you had to sit within 5 metres of it to get receoption. The hotel is in need of renovations and is quite worn out. For a ski-ing hotel, there are ski lockers for rent which do not fit snow boards in, and no where to dry out ski clothes or boots.
Ski in Ski out
Long walk back up to hotel from centre.
Tricky to find something good to say about this place. Errrr. Here's one: The over-worked receptionist tried hard to make up for a very poor hotel.
Good grief. There's not enough time in the world to do this place the justice it so expensively deserves. Above all the food was an abomination. Presumably some animals gave up their lives for the "buffet" but I'm not sure what they were. They can rest assured their lives at least enabled countless noxious, poisonous microorganisms to thrive. I'd love to have taken swabs from surfaces. It's a damning indictment that the Spanish can allow food preparation and standards like these to go unpunished. The room, beds, soft furnishings, bathrooms, electrics were all dreadful. The ski lockers were too small. And falling to bits. Everywhere there was broken furniture. The whole hotel stinks of disinfectant. All the time. The internet was available, but only on the ground and first floor communal areas and it was dreadfully slow. TV reception was a joke. It's a long walk down (and further coming back!) to the resort centre. The whole place reeked of trying to get as much money as possible for the hotel, whilst giving least possible service to the guests. Never, ever again.
Bed & shower
Noise late at night & breakfast wasn't great.
Wifi was terrible as was the decoration. Should be 2 star not 3
we did not like the fact that the only way the room door can be closed from outside is to slam it - otherways the lock will not let you. This meant that people were slamming doors all night long and it made the hotel noisy.
Location for skiing was good.
Service and facilities were awful.
Ski in / ski out, Nice bathroom.
Very hard bed and spartan furniture. The restaurants were under staffed.
The only positive thing was the location just next to the slopes
We had a booking for a family room, but had been changed to two double rooms which in fact is a good offer but do not work with small children. The rooms were not tidy, no illumination in the shower, broken water tabs, missing furniture, sub-standard beds and blankets. In fact, the entire building seems to be in urgent need of maintenance / major renovation. The food was not of the standard I would expect in a ski resort hotel. The breakfast was a disappointment with very few choises of greasy stuff on the buffet table. All in all, our stay in this hotel was a huge disappointment and was definitively not value for the money.
Food not good.
There was a car space inside the garage but if that wasn't available then I don't know where I would have left the car as everywhere was full of parked cars and snow.
Looked dated and in need of redecorating.
The showers were great
The decoration and room floor tiles needed attention
The location cannot be beat being truly ski in/ski out. And value for money. Being ski in/ski out one would expect to pay a lot more for the location alone, but overall the Monachil is fine. An added plus was the ski rental/service shop right in the hotel that did a very good job on my skis. We only had breakfast and it was fine - variety etc. But why oh why is there not fresh normal milk on the buffet. You have to ask for it. There is soy and lactose free milk, but no regular milk other than the hot ¨milk¨ (most likely powdered) that is dispensed from the coffee machines. The bar/cafeteria is nice although when we asked about it on our first night we were told that during the week it was closed and that we could have a drink by taking the evening meal buffet after 20:00. This turned out to be false, but we didn´t figure it out until the next night. Our communication problems with reception were definitely not language-based as my wife is Spanish. Apart from reception the housekeeping and bar/restaurant staff were excellent.
The hotel, although clean, is not very modern or pretty to look at. It is drafty especially in the lounge area on the first floor and the door to our room´s balcony did not shut as well as it should. And what makes matters worse is that there is a balcony off the lounge where smokers go to smoke and so the door is open a lot. And speaking of smoking...many guests were smoking in their rooms or in the hallways even though the hotel is no smoking. We mentioned this to reception and they assured us this could not be the case because there are smoke detectors throughout the hotel, which there are, but that doesn´t mean that they work. I looked at a few (the one in our room and another in the hallway) and there was no light on or other sign that they were actually working. (If true, very troubling indeed as The Lodge Hotel that is in front of the Monachil, burned to the ground last month.) We also complained about the WiFi which according to the hotel´s web page is throughout the hotel. We were given 3 different answers as to why it wasn´t working by 3 different staff member at reception. None really offered and apology or compensation. You have to pay a deposit for almost everything except the room key. Laminated parking placard 12€, ski locker key 3€, ski pass 3€ etc. (A deposit for the ski pass is pretty normal 12€ for a laminated piece of paper seems a bit extreme and it must be paid in cash.) It snowed quite a bit during our visit and no real effort was made to clear the hotel´s car park of snow. On the morning of our departure we were told that someone could be found to give us a push if necessary. All this said you get what you pay for and the location really can´t be beat. We experience really bad weather during our stay (snow, wind and ice) which meant that we didn´t get to snow as much as we would have liked. Not the Monachil´s fault, but at check-out I mentioned that it was a shame that we had had such bad weather during our stay.
Wi-Fi connection Hospitality Very old - poor maintenance Variety at dinner
Ski from hotel and back to hotel
No courtesy bus. Could not get back from centre of village after 5.30 pm the walk is to far and all up to many steep steps.
Good value for money
Could have been closer to village
- Price (reserved with 55%Discount) - Direct Access to the Slopes - Helpful Receptionist (Fatima) - Ample Lounge Area with Wifi
- Terrible Food Services - Small room with small window - Full indoor Parking - Not a walking distance to the centre
We liked the location; you can ski to where the lift starts and ski home. Next to the reception in the hotel you can hire all your ski gear which is very practical. Breakfast is good. 10 minute walk ( find the short cuts - little paths) to the main square where the restaurants are. For the children there is an air hockey and soccer gme table in a lounge area with tv. Good water pressure in the showers. We had no bath. I think they have a garage for the cars but we parked outside the hotel on their grounds.
I didn't like the noise. You have to slam ( pull hard) to close the door. So you hear everyones doors banging. Nobody can help that. It's tje system. Bring ear plugs. I prefer duvets to blankets because blankets are less hygenic. It gets quite cold at night and they do have an extra blanket , but our hot water bottle was nice ( we took along)
