These lovely, stylish apartments feature a great location in Madrid’s Chueca district, within 100 yards of the Metro station.
Score from 583 reviews Excellent
It is very well situated: walking distance to the major museums, retiro park, train station, metro stop. Excellent tapas bars and taxi stand just around the corner. The staff, Javier and Saul, are excellent. I had to bring my husband to the emergency room (all ok now) late at night. Both of them were of great help referring us to a good hospital and always offering to help the following days. They were both reassuring since we do not know anyone there and we are deeply grateful. We would stay again in Hostal Gonzalo and recommend it to family and friends.
Considering it is a hostal, there is nothing to dislike.
Hostal Gonzalo was excellent!; I saw it had great reviews online and it still exceeded my expectations; very clean, nice, great location/ neighborhood; wonderful customer service -- Javier who spoke good English was very nice, helpful, and always available; very tidy hostal and room with nice furnishings and fixtures; comfortable stay; A/C worked well; Shower was good; Bed was fine/comfortable; great location in quiet, pleasant neighborhood: about 5 minute walk to Prado Museum; 10 mins or so to Retiro Park (very nice and huge); 15 mins to Puerta del Sol; 4-5 min walk to closest Metro stop (Anton Martin); 10 min walk to Atoche train station; If willing to walk, every major sight or pedestrian street is walkable from the hostal
Only issue: Free WiFi was finicky; inconsistent; would work for brief periods of time but then were periods of time when my iPhone and laptop detected the WiFi but did not connect
Friendly staff. Clean, comfortable room. Air conditioning! Close to good restaurants and the tourist buses.
Everything was absolutely great, especially the staff who couldn't have been more gracious and helpful
A spotless, albeit small room (but this is normal in Europe) with everything you need including AC. The owners are charming, welcoming and make you fee right at home. The fun restaurants and bars a few doors away made it hard to leave the neighbourhood. Plus it is so close to all the key museums - there is nothing not to like about Hostal Gonzalo. We will happily go back there on our next visit to Madrid.
Javier was very a very hospitable host making us feel very welcome. He also gave us some sightseeing tips. The hotel is right next to the major museums and only a 10-15 minute walk to Puerto del Sol.
Good location, five minutes walk to the prado museum. Neat and clean, the bed is comfortable.
The staff were great. Happy to recommend places to eat, go etc... equally happy to draw a small map if necessary. Well located, clean - would definitely recommend
Very quiet and clean, good beds, pleasant lounge area and very helpful owner who went out of his way to make our stay as good as possible.
Some rooms rather small, we swopped for one at the front for only a small extra cost.
The host at the hostal was very lovely and helpful. He have us great restaurant options and highlighted all the best places to see in Madrid. The room was just what we needed, simple yet clean and we even had the room attended to each day which is not usual for a hostal. Very close to Madrid P.A train station and a 5 min walk from the beautiful Reitro Parque.
Hotel Gonzalo is in the Barrio de Las Letras, two blocks from the Prado's main entrance and walking distance from Atocha Station and the Airport Express stop at Plaza de Cibeles. Just one block away were all the tapas bars/restaurants on Calle de Jesus. Our room was small but had everything we needed. Air conditioning and wifi were great, and Javier and his family were available if we had questions. The price was more than reasonable and saved us a lot of money when we compared it to the prices we paid for hotels in other cities.
Toiletries provided: one small bar of soap. Since I always travel with a few extra toiletries, this was not a problem--just something for other travelers to be aware of.
it is located in the center of Madrid, the owner of the hostal (Antonio) helps you in every thing you ask its near the center of the night life and its quite also!
the rooms are small no safe box
Extremely helpful proprietor, who spoke very good English and made several very useful suggestions about things we could do or how to do them. He also recommended an excellent restaurant. Everything was kept spotless, and our room, although overlooking the street, was quiet because of double-glazing and double shutters.
The beds were a little hard but OK, and for the price, very reasonable.
Clean, nice staff, central location... Perfect,
Comfy, tidy and clean. Staff was nice and helpful! Loved the restaurants nearby! Good location, quiet, safe and convenient. There was a supermarket downstairs.
The basin was shallow! Wifi was good on the first day only! Too cold at night the aircon, needed to switch it off in the midnight!
The building is charming; the neighborhood is charming and convenient to several Metro stops; the staff are pleasant and helpful. And the hostal is a value for the price. We recommend it.
Comfortable and affordable accomodation right in the centre of Madrid. Excellent location for visits to musea, bars and restaurants.
Great location on a quiet street which was close to everything. Really helpful and friendly staff who speak English too.
The shower was terrible but everything else was great.
Friendly, hospitable staff. Basic but impeccably clean room. A few minutes walk from the Prado and close to the railway station. Several good bars and restaurants in the immediate vicinity.
Air conditioning not in use. Balcony windows afforded some ventilation but street somewhat noisy throughout the night.
The stuff are very helpful with telling you the locations of everything. The rooms are clean. Worth the price!!
Wonderful position in the very center. Very friendly and helpful owners and staff.
Great location and comfortable rooms. Javier was very friendly and helpful, he goes out of his way and beyond to help. He has a great personality and excellent customer care. We are returning!
This property was ideally located within walking distance of everything but in a very quiet side street. The room was an excellent size and included bedside tables, a double wardrobe and a separate set of drawers.
The only thing I would have liked which the room did not have, was a small bar fridge.
Javier and Antonio. The room, the building, the location, the ambience of all. Our first stop in our first trip to Spain, it was the best welcome we could wish for.
