Staff was very good. My first room was cool. But staff quickly changed the room. In place of the single room, he gave me double room.
Window's frames of the single room was not good.
Good Shower Good Bed(huge)
The staff were very helpful providing me a kettle and ensuring I was taken care of. Lower end of the budget and gives value for money for those who want a clean friendly environment and a reasonably comfortable bed.
The walls are very thin, so that everything next door can be heard, including noise until one or two o'clock in the morning. The actual street Hortaleza is a bit seedy and lively though not in anyway dangerous. Perhaps not somewhere to come with young children.
The hostel charge us extra 15Euro for a kid even we did not request for any extra bed. This is the only hostel during my visit to Spain that do so.
Love the staff their sooo helpfull
The place of Hostal America is great: many restaurants and shops around, as well as means of public transportation. The breakfast is in a hotel nearby (around 150m) but the buffet is great. Friendly staff.
The walls separating the rooms are not really sound proofed: one could hear clearly the conversations of the room next door. The room that I used was a little smelly due to someone who had smoked inside.
Incredibly attentive staff -- they seem to "know you" after 24 hours, always smile. Anything missing? They supplied it. But hopefully you won't spend much time in your room, because you're in the heart of Madrid - from here we did not need to use the Metro or any other transit. Everything is walkable. Huge number of restaurants and bars and groceries close by for your meals. We would stay here again, yep!
Rooms are very small and crowded, with some noise because of thin walls and audible bathroom noises. Tight fit in the bathrooms - who needs a bidet?
staff were very helpful and friendly. great location close to train station and main plaza
shower - water pressure not that great
The hostal is in great position and staff very friendly, great value for money
This was my second time staying in Hostal America because the staff (Felipe, Isaac, Ruben and Cerverica) are very nice, the location is superb, it's very quiet and excellent value for money. The wifi is very stable also. Felipe was particularly helpful when I was checking out. I will definitely stay here again the next time I'm in Madrid.
staff was wonderfull. the room was clean and got cleaned every day.
the shower stream was very weak (especially in the morning). to enter the hostel you need to ring the bell, the door always gets opened in a second but you sometimes don't feel nice to make the guys in the front desk get up to open the door for you... dont expect a 5 star hotel, it's a very nice and cozy hostel...
Staff very nice
The staff, the service, the location, the wifi, the value for the money.
The sink, the position of the desk, and the available TV channels.
The staff is really friendly. The location is great, near everything! The room was clean.
The noise, we can hear everything from the other rooms and even floors
The location is good and close to the main street. They clean the room every day.
The noise in the next room is so much that sometimes you feel like sitting together.
We have stayed here three times now. It is a very H¡handy stopover for catching flights from Madrid. The staff are friendly and the hotel has an enormous comnunal terrace with good views. Shops and restaurants on the doorstep.
There is no heating and we were a bit cold.
The price was really good and it is in a very central location. Also, the staff were generally helpful and friendly. Wi-Fi connections were excellent.
The rooms were a lot smaller than I expected when looking at the photos. Also, the plug above the bed was broken and split in two when I unplugged my iPad.
The location was great, I could walk everywhere to the major attractions.
They didn't have the right room for me the first night and had to move me around. The second room, 502, was near the front desk and it was extremely noisy.
The location, the staff
The price... 160€ per night was too much for a simple room with only a bed
good location, as close to Gran Via and Sol. Very nice and helpful staff.
Room and bathroom are very small, though we didn't mind too much. The street can be noisy with party folks at night
Room 405 can experiences excess night time noise from room above on floor 5
Conveniently located near lots of good restaurants, metro station. Staff really friendly and helpful.
The location is good, close to amenities and tourist spots.
the room for 5 people is too small and crammed.
Excelent location, nice clean and confortable rooms.
The place is a bit hard to find. If your room is on the lower floor you have to go to the top floor and ask someone to open the door for you.
Location, near the Gran Via is very good. Easy for finding important places to visit like Museo del Prado and Museo Thyssen B., and parc del Retiro. Nice restaurants every where.
Hostel is old and decoration ugly at reception and at rooms. Does not have breakfast. Shower was broken, despite it had abundant warm hot water.
