that the staff don't speak english or frensh
Location could not be better - bang in the centre of Madrid and within easy walking distance of all the sites. Helpful staff. The hostal is kept spotlessly clean. It served my purpose of somewhere reasonably priced and safe to stay in Madrid very well.
Single rooms are at the back of the hostal, dark and slightly claustrophobic. On the plus side, there is less street noise than at the front of the building. Walls between rooms are very thin and you can hear whatever is going on in the neighbouring rooms so if you have noisy neighbours, you are likely to suffer. Mine went in for very loud internet telephone calls to China at 3.00 a.m. Clearly jet-lagged, they generously decided to share their insomnia with the adjoining rooms!
Easy access to metro ,great location, staff friendly !
Would have liked a small fridge.there was none.
The location of this is superb. It is next to the Opera metro station. The rooms were renovated recently and my walls were newly painted. It was clean and very good for the money. This is not a youth hostel. More like a pension. You will get towels and soap to shower and they make your bed every day! There is an elevator. I will definitely come back here. (For handicap people note there are two steps on the ground floor that you have to be aware of.) The sign in front is not very visible. It is a red flag that says hostal Orient. It is two doors down from the McDonald's & pharmacy. If you past one intersection from the plaza, then you have gone too far. It took me a long time to find number 23, so keep this direction in mind! Down the Calle Arenal is the Sol metro station too. The late night market of San Miguel to have tapas is only a few blocks away. And a lot of eateries around this stop. The palace is very close by.
The bathtub is small. That is fine for me because I just needed to shower. Wi-Fi a little slow.
Value for money. Location! Fair hotel with everything needed, friendly and very helpful staff.
Shower was not great. Room very small (but OK).
comfortable, great location, very helpful and curteous staff
wifi not strong
Cheap. Good location. Clean. No noise. Comfortable. Just what we wanted!
The pictures on the walls are really terrible!
spectacularly convenient location, steps away from Teatro Real.
next door to McDonald's
Location is great.
the position was ideal, as it was right next to the metro station, and many shops and food services were very close by. it was relatively quiet, which was really good considering its in such a busy area. Even the staff although not knowing english well, was very polite and helpful. The price for good for the type of room we had
I had requested a twin bed, instead we received a double bed, which was alright yet wasn't good enough. Also the wifi, although existed the signal was very weak. However in general the whole trip at the hotel was really pleasant
clean, they did mind our luggage as our flight back to Australia was very late at night.
We had booked and paid for a balcony room months in advance and were given a tiny room at the back of the place looking onto an internal shaft and a clothesline. Although a double bed, not suitable for two people. No privacy, the bathroom was so close to the bed. When I complained, which I don't generally do they said they were booked out and would change the room tomorrow, and that they couldn't speak English. Tomorrow never came. When I asked again the following day to be moved, was told since you did not complain again, we left you there. There were many times when they could have changed our room as people booked out each morning. When my husband complained, he was told to go somewhere else. After travelling for 20 days my last days in Spain were a nightmare. No place to make a tea or coffee around 7am each morning MacDonald's only thing open. May suit if you get what you booked.
Good location near the city center Very quiet place Very cozy
I could hardly find someone that spoke and understood English
This simple Hostal is well-placed for visitors to Madrid and in easy reach of food and drinks. It is spotlessly clean and in excellent repair. It is exceedingly good value.
Great location, clean, courteous service, wonderful breakfast place (with huge mug of tea) in the same building.
Although our room was tidy enough it was not even similar to the pictures of rooms presented on web. And you can hear what your neighbours do :)
Comfort, clean, good treatment
The single rooms are too small
cleanliness location and comfort of room
The location was absolutely great - near all the major attractions and restaurants, by the metro station. Very clean and tidy, nice staff.
The beds were not comfortable, there was never enough shower gel in the bathroom(but the cleaning ladies would provide us with whatever we asked for).
Great access to the main places of interest, vast pedestrian areas.
Location.. simplicity and the new coffee machine
No breakfast option available
Great location. Friendly and easy to find. Would stay there again. The room was small, but I don't need anything more. My room was located on an interior air shaft...no view at all, but quiet. ( I like quiet.)
Wifi was decent, location was good the hotel staff was very mice and courteous. .
The washroom was very tight and the owner did not speak any english and gave wrong info in regards to taking a bus to Toledo but then again, if you plan to be there you would need to be better prepared yourself in taking buses or trains..
I booked double room for one person for €55 with the street view. When I arrived, the receptionist offers me single room with tiny window to the backyard. He was non-polite, didn't speak English and apparently drunk. I would never stay at Hostal Oriente again.
Excellent location and very friendly staff
A bit noisy
It was a good price. The staff were helpful. Very clean. Right in the city centre.
Walls a bit thin with other travellers slamming doors and moving furniture in the middle of the night. Not the fault of the hostel. Wifi slow after 20 minutes.
I love the location and they are very friendly. I have stayed there a lot and am happy to be there and glad I am not working from there and need internet in my room
Wifi didn't work at all in room. I always had to go to the lobby to get any reception ....
