Hostal Plaza Mayor  

superb location

Location was just off the Plaza and central to everything. Oscar went above and beyond...helpful, caring and always a smile. Room was clean and we selected a 3rd floor balcony. Parking was close and underground but make certain you reserve with the hotel in advance.

Party noise was loud and without a lull until 5-6 am. No coffee available. We were offered a patio view and should have said yes.

We had a car and found it difficult to find with the pedestrian only streets. Staff did help get us go the garage which was great

The location is great, just off the Plaza Mayor. Oscar was very helpful. I requested a quiet room, and they gave me a room facing the interior courtyard, which was perfect. After check-out, they even let me keep my backpack in a storage room so I could explore Salamanca a bit more.

The hostal staff is friendly and very help in routing information and helping us to call the cab. The location is also very good. You turn a bit and there you are in the Plaza Mayor. When you want to enjoy the lighted night there, this could be a very good choice. And there're lots of stores for shopping maniac.

Yet this hotel is totally overpriced considering its small space, facility and environment. The facility is not up to expection. The hairdryer will just break down in the middle of using. And you have to wait for quite a long time to get it work again. I borrowed another one from the recetionist yet it works just the same. When we first came into the room, it felt ok. But when we came back at night, we sensed a very strong smell of smoke in the room. It feels like somebody has smoked heavily here. I wonder if there's any problem with their ventilation or what. It really gave very bad impression. The last straw is the stairs at the front door. They do have a lift but it only starts from the first floor not the ground floor.

Can be a bit noisy when people talk and walk around the building, as I was staying on the first floor, but it´s acceptable.

Extremely helpful receptionist who gave us excellent restaurant suggestions. A great location right on Plaza Mayor, but the room was nice and quiet.

Parking was expensive, and it was very difficult to find in a car. It would be useful if the Hostal provided directions as it took us half an hour, and we still ended up parking a few street away and then walking. The one-way system in the town centre is a nightmare!

Very helpful reception staff, comfortable room and closeness to reasonably priced bars and restaurants. Being right on Plaza Mayor is an added bonus.

The front stairs are a little challenge for older travellers with luggage, and the in-room wifi could not be fixed on a week-end.

A really good little hotel right in the very centre of the city. Amenities good, room comfy, people friendly and even though many don't speak English it was all ok and we managed with smiles all round. This is the second time we have stayed here and it is excellent value. The only slight downside is that there is no direct parking but there are plenty of multi-storey underground car parks for around 10-12 per night within 400 yds - so now big deal

What I most appreciated was the hospitality of the staff! The rooms are very comfertable and clean! sumarized: a hostel with the quality of an 3-4 stars hotel! highly recommendable!!

It's situation........... if you book a room with a balcony. They love pets and make no surcharge for dogs. Private, lock up, parking is available at a price but with a peace of mind.

The room fridge was empty, fruit juices would have been great as would a kettle to make tea or coffee.

The location was fantastic, the price amazing. Best part was wonderful Oscar, who carried my bags, drew directions on the map, recommended his favorite places and was really really a friendly and professional host. Great place to stay. The bed was fine, shower good, no noise (which is amazing since it is just outside the Plaza).

Lots of steps, but that's minor. It's really a great place to stay, in a very special city.

Rooma are small....to be expected in city centre location beside Plaza Major.

Very well located to the main square.what a great place to stay if you are 18/25 BUT if you prefer the fine things in life ,ie a nice shower,bed,,air con,etc etc FORGET THIS HOSTAL IN FACT IT IS A HOSTAL

This is a fantastic place to stay. It is in an excellent location.It is clean and comfortable. However the best thing about Hostal Plaza Mayor is the service provided by the staff. We received help well beyond the call of duty from Oscar who came out of the hostal to where we had parked our bikes and showed us the way to the garage. He also helped us with our luggage on a very hot afternoon.

We could not fault it.

Why this designated a hostel and not a hotel is beyond me. Very clean, well appointed, super convenient, a staff that goes far beyond what one would expect, ert. And a real value. I've paid far more for far less. I can use only superlatives to rate our experience there.

Nice, clean place, and a fantastic location right off the Plaza Mayor. The staff was also very nice and friendly. Was perhaps a little expensive, I thought, but I had a great experience and the location is unbeatable.

The staff at Hostal Plaza Mayor were fantastic and very accommodating with recommendations .. the location was perfect for one of the best Plazas in Spain ! The nightlife is great .. the Hostal was very quite so you would never even know that you were right off the square ! Its a great value !

Be aware that it is right off the square and you cannot get to it by car .. If traveling by car , park the car and walk in .. It can be confusing to find with a car .. Also pay for the parking - after checking in the staff their will walk you to their lot

This was my third stay there. I love it. Wonderful location just off the beautiful Plaza Mayor. It's small, welcoming, comfortable for me as a woman traveling alone, attractive decor and very clean, TV with a variety of channels including Spanish and local ones. The rooms are small but I don't mind that, especially since the price is very good. Paco and the other staff are very friendly and helpful. I feel "at home" there and am sure I will go back. This time I was there for 5 days.

Central location, very friendly, competent and helpful staff. A few minutes by walk from the railway station (easy to find out, just go to the Plaza Mayor. The hotel is located just 5 meter to one of the entrances to the Plaza). At a 1-min walk distance there is a stop for the city bus to the central bus station, which is ideal for people using bus connections for traveling. Room small but clean and quiet (but don't leave the window open, there is a nearby air conditioning apparatus that can be noisy in the night). Bathroom small, but not unconfortable.

There is no lift, but the staff is ready to help with the luggage. It may be less confortable for elderly people, if they get a room at the second or third floor.
