The location was excellent and the hostal entrance beautiful. It was close to all the major sites and Metro connections. Although the Grand Via is a very busy street we were never bothered by the traffic. The room was small but very clean and the staff helpful. They took the time to arrange an early morning shuttle to the airport.
after the first night I found a lot of bedbugs in this hostal. Whole my body was bitten. And now after 2 weeks the bites are not diisappeared! and i spent a lot of money to buy special gels and so i advise to choose another hostal, may be more expensive but in the end it will be cheapper for you!
- Location is excellent, walking distance to most important areas in the city centre - Clean room, and comfortable bed - Friendly & Helpful staff (although only one spoke English) - The building (and the lift!!) are quite lovely and classy - Great low price for such a centrally-located ho(s)tel - Our room was away from the street and quiet (although that means no view out the window)
- Wi-Fi (although free) is extremely slow, almost unusable - Very few electrical sockets (if you unplug the TV you get 2 in total) - Very small desk, only 1 chair - Small TV
location, cleaning, building, room, price is excellent for this location and service
room on the street has noise on saturday nights even you are on 8. floor.
The location is really great, all top sights are in walking distance. The entrance of the building is nice, particular antique elevator. The room was clean and comfort enough. Good value for the money we paid.
During our stay we can smell cigarette smoke all the time in the our room, which was directly next to the reception desk, probably from the staff premises
Good for a limited budget traveller.
Everything with this place is perfect. It is near the tourist attractions and within walking distance.
Location can't get any better! Gran via bang in the centre, we walked to all major sites and never used metro! Shops and entertainment on your doorstep ! Basic accommodation nothing fancy but clean and well kept ! Good beds! Although right in the centre we had very quiet nights as it's on the 7 th floor with lift! Recommendable if you are looking for a central basic location at a good price!
Water pressure is not the best, but nothing to keep you from not booking! Wifi a bit unstable at times!
It is very baby friendly hotel. They give us a machine to hot the water. Room is big. They give us playground.my 1year old son slept well. Location is great! It is very close to many restaurants and markets.employees are nice
Clean, Comfortable, Modern, Very good location, Excellent Value for Money, Beautiful interior
No Fridge in the room
Centrally located, quick walk to metro and very clean. Excellent budget hotel.
The staff was so friendly and helpfull! I stayed first some days with another person, in a doble room. It was very nice, with aircondicion private bath and toilet. Plenty of room.
After I stayed a night just my, and had a single-room. The bed was not that good, and there was a air-blower, which was noisy and not very functional, but without it, the room would be very hot.
While the twin room was away from the noisy street side, the room had poor air ventilation which was definitely felt on a hot summer day.
Newly remodelled, nice old building, great location, very friendly and helpful staff, clean and comfortable room and facility, wi-fi worked well, excellent value/low price.
A place in the room for working on the lap top but hard to see with the dim lamps. The location is great, central to all points. Liked the bathroom and the bed was comfortable. Staff was courteous and friendly.
The lighting in the rooms is poor. Very dim.
Hostal Santillan is very well located, in the Gran Vía near the metro stations, restaurants, stores, monuments. It was very clean and the staff was helpful and friendly. After the checkout they kept our bags the entire day. The room had enough space, it was very comfortable and cleaned everyday.
The decoration, from the entrance until up to the room. Clean, comfortable, quiet, everyday cleaning. Good and safe area Gran Via, secure main street with shops, restaurants, next to the stop for the hop on hop off bus, walking the beautiful street gran via you reach sol square. Friendly stuff, they gave us an extra blanket. wifi in the room and tv, shampoo and soap, big bathroom, hot water. Magnet key for the door downstairs. We had room 71 on the 7th floor with private bathroom, but also the toilet outside for the rooms that didn't have bathroom was very, very clean. Near to the metro station Plaza de España (4-5 minutes) and nearer to santo Domingo station, right opposite of it. I really enjoyed the decoration, the floor downstairs and the lift.
Hostal Santillan is very close to Pl.Espana, Pl. Mayor, Pl. Puerto del Sol, Catedral de la Almudena and Palacio Real. You can easily walk. Hostal Santillan is on the street Gran Via. There are many alternatives for eating and shopping.
Great location walking distance to main sights, lots of cafés & restaurants, close to great shopping streets, spotless room & pleasant staff. As a woman solo traveller I felt safe. Beautiful building. Will stay there again.
Wifi was a bit slow in the room.
The room was very comfortable and had the feel of a boutique hotel and not a hostel. I have stayed in other Hostels in Madrid and I would say out of the 3 that I have been at, Hostel Santillan was the best by far.
There was some slight confusion when checking in. It was resolved quickly though. I was a challenge communicating with the person at the front desk. This property was a bit more pricy than other ones however the value was there in the cleanliness and comfort of the room and it was in a central location.
I initially missed the location but once found, I loved the proximity of this hotel Metro and it's location right on the Gran Via (buzzing with activities day and night). I opted for a room with an ensuite bathroom which was comfortable enough and clean.
Not much really. No view from my room but just meant I had to go into the town and experience Madrid. The receptionist could not speak English but that is my fault for not learning Spanish beyond the basics.
- staff were good - location is fantastic - very clean .. they do clean the room every day -
- internet very bad - only one elecricity plug in the room
Location is perfect and staff are always welling to help
