Perfect location on the Ramblas and yet quiet rooms. We requested rooms facing inwards into a central courtyard.Roof top pool kept our two children (9 and 12) happy after a day in the city. Hotel acted on our booking request for rooms close to each other for the children. The rooms were opposite each other across the corridor and this worked fine. Breakfast and drinks at the rooftop pool are a tad expensive. Young children are not allowed into the indoor Spa pool, which is understandable, but be aware of this before you go.

The hotel has a lovely relaxed atmosphere, especially in the public areas, it is in a fantastic location, with all the main attractions of Barcelona within walking distance. The bed was comfortable and I especially liked that we could control the heating in the room. The spa area indoors is well worth a visit, very relaxed and private. Generally, the hotel is well run and the staff are all very helpful yet unobtrusive. Much preferred it to the Arts and Claris Hotels which I stayed in earlier in the year. We paid way over the odds for our 'delux' room, which although very comfortable was also very small. When I enquired about this I was told that the rooms which are actually a grade below - the 'privilege' rooms are actually bigger! However, we wanted a room with a terrace and therefore paid for the delux room. The bathroom was tiny, with a shower over the bath and the water pressure was not strong at all. Another issue which would be easily remedied was that there was one english T.V. channel - the news, I would expect that in this day and age to have a bit more choice, as there are for German and French speaking guests. The cost of food and beverages in the hotel are ridiculously high, bit of bad business sense really as guests would spend more if they lowered their prices to within normal levels, as the choice of restaurants and cafes nearby make it easy to opt for the cheaper option!

The hotel is very centrally located, and though on a busy street our room was quiet in the evening. We wish we hadn't suffered such jet lag as our days started later than we would have liked. The hotel was within a good walking distance to area sights. Staff was very helpful, and there was always a bi-or tri-lingual person to alleviate language barriers. The bartenders were very friendly. The television programs available bbc news, etc...were very nice. The environmentally friendly lighting system was something we have not experienced -- loved it! Spa was beautiful but we are not used to whirlpool/spas that are not heated to f 102 - 104 degrees; we came to realize later in our trip that it must be a cultural difference.

Location, excellent rooms, quality hotel and matched by the well trained staff who were only too willing to assist. Certainly not the cheapest but having a 5 day stay, wanted something a bit above the average and this hotel certainly delivered. Being situated right on La Rambla, one couldn't ask for more.

Room (Classic room on floor 4) + Lighting Automation was useful and easy. + Classic Room. No: 415. Very large and confortable, clean. + Room service was quick and prices were reasonable + Room was quiet. Room maids respected the Do Not Disturb cards. - Lighting automation had no room for customization. Only 4 scenarios were available. - Room view was not good. Window facing inner court. Restaurant + Breakfast buffet was good enough (Compatred to european country's 2 dish breafasts) and prices very reasonable (23 EUR per person) + Coffee served in flask. + Nespresso Machine available General + Terrace was perfect. But a little too sunny (needs umbrellas) - Welcoming was a little poor. More information should be given and slowly. Outstanding hotel! We had a one night post cruise stay in Barcelona and were extremely pleased with this beautiful hotel. The location is great, the staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the room was very comfortable and had luxurious amenities, the atmosphere and food were also excellent. The roof terrace was a great place to enjoy wine and appetizers. We will definitely stay here again.

Excellent location right on Las Ramblas. Rooms very comfortable. The beds/pillows are amazing. Great rooftop bar and pool. We were travelling with a small baby. A nice travel cot was provided and even though quite a luxurious hotel they were extremely welcoming and accommodating with our son Only disappointment was that the hotel seemed to struggle to produce a decent cup of tea!

My sister and I recently stayed at Hotel 1898 to celebrate my 50th birthday. I was most impressed by the service we received from all staff, from the lovely ladies cleaning our room to the bar staff serving on the roof terrace (fantastic views and very comfy sofas!) and the staff serving breakfast.Nothing was too much trouble and genuine smiles on the faces of all the staff leads me to believe Hotel 1898 must be a great place to work!!. I would have to say say we received 6 star plus service!, Many thanks for making my birthday memorable! We had a standard room overlooking an internal courtyard which only had a very small window, it was lovely and quiet great for a good nights sleep! But quite dark.We kept forgetting to insert the room key for power so ended up groping around in the dark a few times until we found our key! . No other complaints as the room was spacious and the bathroom gorgeous.

Location was ideal. Facilities were good & public areas welcoming. Classic rooms were very small & difficult to maintain room temperatures due to air conditioning unit causing a draft in such a small room.

I thought Hotel 1898 was a very good quality hotel. Our room, the leisure area, leisure facilities and public areas were all to a very high standard. The location is excellent right at the entrance to Las Ramblas. I will definetly stay at this hotel again if I make a return leisure trip. A small point but for me free WiFi is a must in holiday hotels and the Hotel 1898 system connected perfectly. The flat screen tv in the room was excellent however when paying for such a high quality hotel I would expect a better channel selection with Sky Sports etc available.

The hotel upgraded us to a larger room with a terrace for very little extra (asked upon check in) per day. The staff was friendly, the pool on top of the Hotel is a great place to eat, drink and take in the city...very relaxing. A/C was key and very good...ask if you can't figure out how it works. Taxi's were available within minutes of asking & the front desk very knowledgable about site seeing...rent a bike 2 blocks away, its faster & cheaper than a cab! Go to Flash Flash for best omellete & burgers!
