Axel Hotel Barcelona & Urban SpaAribau, 33, Eixample, 08011 Barcelona (Show map) Very good, Score from 933 reviews“the informality, excellent location in centre of town,”
Kevin,
Bradford-on-avon
This designer hotel is close to Passeig de Gràcia's exclusive boutiques. The Axel Hotel’s Spa Centre includes a hydro-massage pool and saunas, and the rooms have flat-screen satellite TVs. The Axel’s Sky Bar features a large swimming pool, a terrace with hot tubs and a cocktail bar. Here you will find parties, art exhibitions and shows. The restaurant inside offers Mediterranean cuisine. The area around the hotel is known as the Gay-xample because of its lively gay scene. The staff have excellent knowledge of the local gay scene, though the hotel is also hetero-friendly, with an open-minded, cosmopolitan atmosphere. The Axel Hotel Barcelona offers easy access to the Ramblas, the Picasso Museum and Gothic Quarter. The hotel occupies an attractive 19th-century building. All rooms are spacious and have modern design. There is free internet access in the business center. Hotel Rooms: 105

It's gay hotel (heterosexual friendly). I'm a gay and liked this hotel very much, but pls be aware, that at the moment of the booking it wasn't mentioned anywhere in your site. It can be embarrassing for straight people Neighborhood

The hotel has a nice Spa (but extra charge!) and a good gym. The Axel is far overpriced. The room was tiny and you couldnt move in the bathroom, you had to manouver with the door to be able to get into the shower. Considering the many excellent hotels in Barcelona with better rooms and that cost only half, it seems foolish to stay at the Axel. My request for a room with a king size bed instead of two beds was not awarded. For every extra (Spa, Internet etc.) they charge extra, which is silly considering the already high price per night. All in hotel the Axel is a rip off. Ziemlicher Reinfall: viel zu teuer für ein winziges Zimmer und ein Bad wo man sich gar nicht bewegen konnte. Es gibt bessere Hotels in Barcelona die die Hälfte kosten.

The location is pretty good, the pricing was competitive, and the rooms were modern. We booked a baby cot which the hotel could not deliver, so they upgraded us to a very nice penthouse suite. They also messed up our room service order, and again delivered an apology by bringing a complimentary bottle of cold cava to the room. Booking.com says the hotel is gay-friendly. Everything from the shampoo bottles in the room to the overly tight speedos sold at the reception have "heterofriendly" printed on them. I found it rather hilarious, but I can see someone could object to having naked men on every other page of the hotel guide book, or condoms stocked next to the shampoo, shower gel and conditioner bottles.

Funny thing I couldn't pick a single word from the list above. The location is great, the rooms very clean but smaller than expected and little to no closet, drawer space to put your things in. When I asked about this they said, 'most people only stay 2 or 3 days and dont need that much space' they are so wrong. Friends were unable to unpack and had to pile their things on the floor. The staff were polite but seemed not to care about any of this, they were just doing their job. Axel is overpriced and many of us felt exploited bc we're gay and chose a gay hotel. As in, gay guys will pay anything for a gay product even if that product is a rip off. I wouldn't pay 200 euros to stay there again. Ever As above. Overpriced, exploitative.and, it's just not that nice. Staff were polite but not warm, and didn't always have the answers to basic tourist questions.

This was my third stay at the hotel. I was pleased to see that the renovations that were being done last year are complete and the hotel is even more beautiful than before. The location is ideal and the hotel staff while truly professional are at the same time exceedingly approachable and friendly. I entered the Ground Bar one night on the way home and a woman who said she represented the hotel stopped me and told me it was a lesbian party and to "get out". When I explained that I was just going to the elevator she raised her voice and again told me to get out. This woman was extremely rude to me and I am not cerrtainly not used to being spoken to in such a manner particularly when I was a guest at he hotel. Nor was it posted anywhere what was going on that night. I'm sure this was an isolated incident because if I thought this is how guests are now going to be treated at Axel I would not recommend the hotel to anyone. Other that this experience the rest of my stay was great as usual. As I stated earlier this was my third stay at the hotel and I was very happy to return.

The reception makes sure to accommodate all your needs. Great customer service You could hear everything in the hallways and it could get a little loud in the mornings. But other than that, it was excellent.

I wish I could say something nice about this hotel: airco broke, elevator did not work, glasses in the room were not washed, it took three days for the wi-fi service to work and then the connection was poor. I understand things can go wrong and all at the same time but the management did not do any effort to compensate for the inconvinenances. In fact we were charge for internet. I will not recommend this hotel.

The window in the premium room 617 was not sound proof or airtight. I could hear all the street noise in my room. The reception was unable to change the room as the hotel was completely full. No offer of compensation was provided. The hotel could Not even provide earplugs.

The room and the shower Noisy at night, the windows are not doble glazed.. And people stayed talking and laughing until 1am in a small terrace! So forget to sleep! No parking, and we had our car clamped. There is no signal in the road and so cars are parked at night, but at 7am they go, and our car was the only one that stayed, and was clumped. The guy at the reception told us that it was allowed for parking. Next day he appologized, but too late! It is a guy hotel, and it was not mentioned in booking .com! And no money refund. It is a shame!

The spa at the Axel does not have a heated jacuzzi. The ceiling in the spa locker room had black mold. The shower in our room was poorly designed and the water drained on the floor. This hotel is overpriced for what they offer.

Location, breakfast was good and the staff very friendly The rooms are very badly isolated ...I could follow the full conversation of the girls next door. So if you go to party...no problems, but I was on business and needed my rest... So not that great. The wifi doesn't work well, I tried 2 different rooms...finally ended up sitting in the lobby where it works well.

Price discount (€ 380 voor €97) was the eye catcher. Ishoudlhave known better. This hotel does not justify a price tag anywhere near to €380,-! The hotel is situated in a gay quarter, claiming to be hetero-friendly (I overead this detail). When I finally arrived in my hotel room there was a large wall picture showing mr X in his tiny Johnson. That's when it occured to me. I am in a strange place. It is to say the least very unapropriate to put that kind of picture in a hotelroom (I know plaenty of gay people who do not appreciate that level of exposure at all).

The Spa was ok although you have to pay 7euros supplement to use this. The whole staff very friendly and willing to help. The Decor was interesting not OTT but acceptable for a city hotel. overall ok. Quality of the breakfast was good but expensive. What I did not like was the high prices that are practised in the hotel and the lets charge high prices for anything you need, perhaps management should wonder why the bar and restaurants are empty even on Fridays and Saturdays. Rooms ok would not say something out of the this world, the price even with the specail offer found it high for the end product.I would not return out of choise, but never say never...I think the owner should re-consider pricing and concept.

Staff was very friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean, spa was nice, great location. There were many problems with booking the room, apparently couple of credit cards didn't work, so we had problems with cancelling the booking on the day of our arrival. But somehow, after my call to hotel, the same card worked. This was very stressful, to have your reservation cancelled on the morning of the arrival, and they didn't even mention it when we got there, like nothing's happened. At least we were expecting some compensation for the truble... Wi-fi in the room was very bad, mostly it didn't work.
