The best possible situation for arriving off the Ceuta ferry - incredibly easy access and no problem to find - even in the dark! We requested a room near the lift as my husband has Parkinsons and were given a very good wheelchair-friendly twin bedded room on the 3rd floor.
No tea/coffee tray in the room
Excellent location in beautiful garden, well kept. Wide variety of food for breakfast. Attractive price!
Perfect overnight stop for the Cueta ferry link. Comfortable, spacious room; all we needed. We booked in again for the return trip!
Breakfast hours are too late; only opens at 8 am and we had to be at the ferry at 7.
Having read a few of the previous critiques, we thought that maybe we were in the wrong hotel. Wow! Our first impression as we entered the gates. Wow! As we entered the hotel and the same for the room. This hotel oozes history and splendour of a bygone era, but still maintains a modernity and affordability. Staff were friendly & efficient, food was good.Rooms were spacious, and unusually for Spain included tea & coffee making facilities and complimentary wine!
OK Algeciras is not the destination of choice, it is a modern, busy port. But use the hotel as a base and the whole of southern Spain is within easy reach.
The feeling of space. The grounds were beautiful.
A lovely hotel with high quality rooms in a hotel that retains loads of character and history. The location is perfect for the town itself as well as the port. We used this hotel twice on this visit to Morocco and would certainly use it again. This was our 3rd visit.
It would be good to have some dedicated motorcycle parking but I do think the whole site is secure.
Location Quiet and relaxing atmosphere Lovely landscaped very large garden Great public areas indoor and out Very good buffet at all meals Secure free parking Good free wifi service Old world charm of the building Very nice polite and helpfull staff Swimming pool and surrounding area.
The area of Algeciras close to the hotel is not the best. Could do with more staff at the bar during busy times Need to hire a busboy to clear off tables after use in the dinning room and bar areas.
Excellent value, pretty gardens, excellent location for ferry trip to Morocco
Some of the modernisation is a little over the top and not totally in keeping with the architecture. However for the price it is very comfortable and the staff welcoming. The gardens are beautiful and there is a lovely feeling of calm
The rooms very neat and clean, the bathroom was well maintained. The breakfast was good. The surrounding garden was nice.
As we did not come with a car, the uphill walk to the reception was very difficult. If a disabled customer had to go towards town, it would be a difficult task. In an international standard hotel it would be useful to employ someone with multi language skills. We had great difficulty to make staff understand our problems.
STayed twice - going to Morocco and way back. Two different rooms but both very nice. Breakfast was an excellent and extensive buffet. The buffet dinner was large and filling but perhaps trying to cater to larger groups with diverse tastes.
Large tour(?) groups.
The hotel promises much as you drive up the lane through lovely grounds of lawns and flowers. The public areas are specious and comfortable, but from rugs to furniture it is care worn. Our room was an executive room with newer fixings and was comfortable. However there was a musty smell. The worst surprise was that the air con was off even though the temperature outside was 28c.
The restaurant evening meal ranks as one of the worst we have ever had on our travels. The a la cart part was without a soul in it and no service staff. So okay let's have the Mexican buffet. The food was so cooked and warmed over that it was mostly mush if it was vegetable. The meats were overdone and did not resemble claimed Kentucky fried chocked or refried beans or anything Mexican. It was like being in a badly organized cafeteria. It was not and I repeat not a 4star hotel dining experience. It would not rate any star by any food criteria I know. It is a shame as the building is lovely really.
Didn't kike anything about the place.
The hotel was horrible. We were deceived by the photos on booking & the 4-star rating of the hotel. Standard doesn't even come close.
Wonderful location, very nice historical building, good breakfast, lovely gardens, very well located close to the city center and the port, easy access, free parking, ideal if you plan a trip to Gibraltar, Tarifa or Ceuta !
Comfort of the bed
The room needs updating
Style and elegance. Excellent breakfast and dining staff.
Lovely large well kept gardens.Free secure parking.Nice pool and public areas. Good food on all buffets. Great location for ferries to Morocco. Clean comfortable and spacious rooms.
Some noise from adjoining rooms. Area around the hotel not the best.
We wanted to relax close to the swimenpool few days and we got it! Personal very helpful. There is batut, table tennis, biliard, golf. food was very different and tasty!
Nice historical building Good breakfast
First they did not find our reservation and then we got a so called non-smoking room, which had been a smoking room for at least 100 years and was so smelly, that it was like sleeping in an ash-tray. We wanted to get a glass of cava on the terrace, but the bar-tender said they do not have any. It also looked like customers are not very welcome in the bar anyway. The Ala Carte restaurant looked good, so we made the mistake by deciding to eat there. We should have been warned by the fact, that no other customers were there. We ordered grilled sole, which took quite some time to find in the freezer and burn dry. The buffet side of the restaurant was filled with elderly group tourists, which are likely this hotels target customers. We visited in one week 5 hotels in Andalucia, this was the cheapest and had the worst value for money. Location is good only if you are taking the ferry, the hotel is in the harbour and surroundings according to that.
The hotel was a wonderful getaway in the city. It is in such a restful setting yet not too far from the city center and ferry terminal. The room was large, roomy and felt luxurious. The balcony off the bedroom gave a tiny view of the ocean. The bathroom was equally as spacious and also gave a slight view of the ocean The breakfast buffet was wonderful as was their evening buffets. The evening buffets were surprisingly low priced compared to other restaurants. Food was attractive and tasty. There was a lovely grassy yard and garden space for walking or just sitting.
For it to truly be a luxury hotel I thought they could have added a few extra touches such as close-up make-up mirror in the bathroom and perhaps slippers with bathrobe. In spite of these missing details, we loved our stay at this hotel and did not regret our time there.
The 1920's leisure hotel with large well kept grounds.
Bar purchase were very slow. They could have easily used two people on the bar. Despite the lack of bar staff, those who were there were quite polite and pleasant.
Been a good hotel Staff tried there best
Bar with no booze Lack of staff Breakfast orange just water A lot of the hotel 'tired,
The hotel and the grounds were well maintained and beautiful. We enjoyed it all.
I liked the surroundings very much. It has nice bedrooms, very clean and super comfortable. The breakfast was also very good.
Despite being adjusted for mass market travellers this hotel still retains some of the charm of its Historic origins. In particular the garden setting is beautifully cared for.
