Comfort of the bed
The room needs updating
Style and elegance. Excellent breakfast and dining staff.
Lovely large well kept gardens.Free secure parking.Nice pool and public areas. Good food on all buffets. Great location for ferries to Morocco. Clean comfortable and spacious rooms.
Some noise from adjoining rooms. Area around the hotel not the best.
Nice historical building Good breakfast
First they did not find our reservation and then we got a so called non-smoking room, which had been a smoking room for at least 100 years and was so smelly, that it was like sleeping in an ash-tray. We wanted to get a glass of cava on the terrace, but the bar-tender said they do not have any. It also looked like customers are not very welcome in the bar anyway. The Ala Carte restaurant looked good, so we made the mistake by deciding to eat there. We should have been warned by the fact, that no other customers were there. We ordered grilled sole, which took quite some time to find in the freezer and burn dry. The buffet side of the restaurant was filled with elderly group tourists, which are likely this hotels target customers. We visited in one week 5 hotels in Andalucia, this was the cheapest and had the worst value for money. Location is good only if you are taking the ferry, the hotel is in the harbour and surroundings according to that.
The hotel was a wonderful getaway in the city. It is in such a restful setting yet not too far from the city center and ferry terminal. The room was large, roomy and felt luxurious. The balcony off the bedroom gave a tiny view of the ocean. The bathroom was equally as spacious and also gave a slight view of the ocean The breakfast buffet was wonderful as was their evening buffets. The evening buffets were surprisingly low priced compared to other restaurants. Food was attractive and tasty. There was a lovely grassy yard and garden space for walking or just sitting.
For it to truly be a luxury hotel I thought they could have added a few extra touches such as close-up make-up mirror in the bathroom and perhaps slippers with bathrobe. In spite of these missing details, we loved our stay at this hotel and did not regret our time there.
The 1920's leisure hotel with large well kept grounds.
Bar purchase were very slow. They could have easily used two people on the bar. Despite the lack of bar staff, those who were there were quite polite and pleasant.
Been a good hotel Staff tried there best
Bar with no booze Lack of staff Breakfast orange just water A lot of the hotel 'tired,
The hotel and the grounds were well maintained and beautiful. We enjoyed it all.
I liked the surroundings very much. It has nice bedrooms, very clean and super comfortable. The breakfast was also very good.
Despite being adjusted for mass market travellers this hotel still retains some of the charm of its Historic origins. In particular the garden setting is beautifully cared for.
The gardens and facade are incredible but once inside it goes downhill rapidly.
The receptionist was only interested in getting our credit card details. It was obvious she didn't enjoy her job and this soon became apparent that this was an attitude shared by most of the other staff. Rude, abrupt and often ignored - the guy in the bar took great pleasure in keeping the non Spanish people waiting even though there was no other customers there. The indoor pool was closed, all the time we were there with no explanation why. The lounges reflect a time gone by and probably have the same furniture from the 1800's when it opened. And then there was the food!!! The receptionist didn't explain any eating arrangements, where the restaurants were or what the opening times were. For the fist night we discovered the buffet restaurant for dinner. There was only one table available, for four but it was unlaid. There is a complete lack of staff and after finding one the crockery, cups etc. arrived piecemeal - e.g. Cups no saucers, cutlery delivered one item at a time. There was menu of sorts in Spanish and English but the translation was very poor. If you are of a religious inclination which does not eat pork, there were at least 3 options which were shown as cerdo (pork in Spanish) and translated as beef on the English side. Then there was the food....or lack of, as trays were left empty or allowed to dry out. There was only one selection of vegetables - dried chickpeas to be scraped from the bottom of the tray, along with soggy potatoe slices swimming in oil - still the salad was o.k. but even in this hotel you wouldn't expect them to get this right. Breakfast, the following morning, followed on from the previous evening - hunt the table, followed by hunt the crockery, followed by hunt the food. 4 star hotel ..I think not.
The hotel was clean throughout and was of a high quality for the area. The bar area, terrace and swimming pool were all neat and tidy as was the bedroom with all facilities readily available. The buffet meals were of a good quality. Overall the hotel had the feel of a well kept hotel from a bygone era.
Staff in reception and the bar were frosty and unwelcoming. The bar staff appeared too busy doing other tasks and seemed to view customers as an annoyance. However one particular waitress in our area of the buffet was helpful and welcoming.
Confort, excelent preserved architecture and beautiful gardens, breakfast, after-dinner entretainment. Excelent value money
Low wifi room connection Old clientele
Very comfortable, great staff, wifi good, great night's sleep and booked it the day before and got a fantastic price for the qualit of the hotel
The bar was very slow and not always clear which part of the restaurants were what (i.e. buffet or sit down restaurant)
the pool area and the bar area for eating lunches outside and the seating area in the main hall was a lovely place to relax and unwind. It was all at an excellent standard and i thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the hotel. thank you.
the indoor pool wasnt working so i didnt get to swim as the outdoor pool was too cold. The gym area was basic. There was a shortage of staff at reception and the bar area.
A beautiful colonial hotel set in lovely, well tended grounds. The rooms are stylish and comfortable. Live music on Friday evenings was very popular.
Having stayed here many times before, it was disappointing to note that the replenishment of food on the buffet bar was painfully slow (e.g. waiting up to 10 mins for fried eggs etc.& items on published menu failed to appear at all!)
Loved the room, spacious, clean, lovely. Bar and patio area were fun, live music and dancing on Friday night was delightful? Breakfast buffet very good. Near town, great location.
Hotel was beautiful both from the exterior & inside. We were lucky enough to get a corner room which was a fantastic size! Complementary half bottle of red wine greeted us and lovely 'freebies' too. Beautiful room, great pool & gardens and some lovely features. Definitely stay again.
The only thing we didn't like so much was the lunch we had... Though we didn't complain as we were fine,no harm done & we were only there for the one night. We both ordered a chicken sandwich.....I suspect they may have been running short on chicken as there wasn't much of it and it was mixed in with tons of Mayo.... Just way too much - even for someone like me who loves the stuff!! Portion size was generous but disappointingly my partner found several sharp bones in hers... A bit off putting and lucky it was an adult eating it and not a small child. We absolutely loved everything else about this hotel though and we are confident that had we told the staff they would have sorted & replaced the sandwich accordingly.
Location, free parking and excellent breakfast
Wi-fi was not working properly,
Tray it & you know
The beautiful garden setting. The magnificent lounge areas, dining and pool locations. WiFi in all areas. Value for money food and drinks. Plenty of free parking. Easy drive to the Rock - 30 min.
Petro chemical odours - not the hotel's fault .
The best part was the food. The location was good for the train station but not good for a sea view. The waiting staff were efficient & the buffets were great. Saturday night had a live band by the terrace restaurant and there was a great atmosphere with the locals coming to dance.
The receptionist on arrival was rude & abrupt and gave no extra information. The older man in question needs to change his attitude as this was the only time we felt unwelcome in Spain. Also lied to about the distance of the train station and the taxi to the hotel from the port as as well to the station overcharged us. This did not happen in seville, granada or Madrid.
