The Staff The Location The Beautiful House The Breakfast
Our two stays were one night each, and so, similar to the name "La Asomada ...", we had just a brief glimpse. But they were nice ones. My main criteria was convenient location to the airport, since we had a very late arrival and then a very early departure in Tenerife North. La Asomada del Gato is only about 15 minutes away by taxi. Our first 1 night stay was in a room with a bathroom, second stay was in a room with a shared bathroom down the hall. My take is that it may not always be clear which type of room you are reserving, and the final decision may end up being made when you arrive. They bathrooms were fine in both cases. The one down the hall was very large. They were happy to help us with our early 5:00 am departure and put out some breakfast for us the night before, and ordered a taxi for us, which appeared like clockwork the next morning. This is a nice B&B sort of place with a lot of history in architecture and the "talkative" floors. We did not find street noise to be a problem, although some other reviews have commented on that. A neighbor does have a rooster that may need to reset its watch so it does not get up quite so early;-) But for us that was just a nice addition to the friendly ambience, and not a big problem.
Late arrival could be a challenge, since there is no reception desk. The solution is to be sure you have a phone to call them with when you arrive (number is posted by the door), and they will come quickly to open up for you (buzzer buttons next to the door do not seem to help get their attention). Once you are past that you should have a very nice stay.
Great location and very helpful owner. There is no reception but we got key as soon as we arrived without any fuss. Very nice setting and simple but romantic setting. This is more like living at somebody's home than in a big chain hotel/resort... We loved it!
Older building with nice heritage feel - the squeaky floor boards speak to you. Beds are firm but comfortable. Staff is friendly and wants to please even though English is barely spoken.
No reception area and front door is always locked - good luck arriving late, even if you email your arrival time to them before you get there. We spent about 15-20 minutes standing in the rain at 11:15 pm after coming straight from one of the late arriving Vueling flights. Forget about trying to use the intercom at the entrance - you will probably have to call them by phone while you wait at the door - be sure you can do that. Some traffic noise from the street, but not enough to keep us awake. The rooster may need to wind his watch - he starts crowing pretty early. Out of the way location, not sure how easy it would be to walk to restaurant (we did not try).
everything was just perfect
- I was staying at the ground floor so I had my own garden which I enjoyed very much - The owners are extremely cordial and caring - Huge free parking next by - Nice city - All these for little money
The facilities, comfort and cleanliness of the room and the attractiveness of the courtyard leading to the room.
The hotel is located quite a long way from La Trinidad tramstop and is not easy to find, the fact it has no reception and I had to pay for a phone call to receive attention when I arrived, breakfast didn't start till 08.00 and I needed to leave by 07.30 so I couldn't take it, the noisy neighbouring cockerels that started crowing at 05.00 and then didn't stop!
Ambience. A place with a lot of character and very central. Very homely feeling with the owner giving that personal touch.
Nothing of note. Wifi was a bit weak, but if you choose this place based on wifi strength then you're checking the wrong boxes!
The building and courtyards were beautiful. The owners were extremely pleasant and kind. The location was fantastic, in the old town but just off the main busy street, and in a nicer part of town.
Booking.com should make it clearer on the booking form that you need to call the owners in advance. Also, their phone number on the form was wrong so I had to call Booking.com to get them to call the owners. The breakfast could have been better ie not precessed ham and cheese or packaged cakes and biscuits bur fresh produce instead.
Excellent location, authentic feeling with lots of atmosphere, spacious rooms. Very friendly and helpful staff.
no reception at the hotel can be a problem for late arrivals and one needs to have a functioning phone to be able to call for a check-in.
Excellent personal and very good atmosphere. We lived in the centre of La Laguna, but at the same time there was a very nice court, flowers and cockrows on the morning.
There is now big sign and hotel looks as usual building. So for us was a little bit difficult to find the entrance door at the night :)
Good location, friendly owners and beautiful décor!
It was a bit cold during a night.
Totally overprized cold and damp . Tiny room - no window - and full of fleas.
having to phone to be let in, even though had arranged a time
The central Old City location (Unesco Heritage City), enclosed courtyard, many restaurants and shops close by and the16th century hotel building was a pleasant change from all the new hotels we stay in.
Not having a reception person to greet us. We had to call to be let in! Do not arrive without a phone to call with and the reception phone number. However the owners live less than 100 meters away so they come quickly.
The building is very well maintained, and the owners are kind and welcoming
The walls have no acoustic isolation. Hallway light gets into the room through the vents. The staff mixed up our booking and we had to sleep 4 persons in a triple room.
Very friendly staff. OK breakfast. A comfortable bed. The room had free airconditioning/heating which was appreciated as the weather was unusually cold for Tenerife.
The decor is universally dark which coupled with very low wattage lighting (some fittings only had half the bulbs present) made the atmosphere unpleasant. The atrium lighting was very poor and verging on dangerous when the outside stairs were slippery in rainy weather. The room was small and not clean with dustballs and cobwebs. There were dead flies in the main bathroom light fitting. The shower head was not possible to mount on the wall and had to be held. There was no drinking water available in the hotel. We feel the price was too high given the hotel's standard and comfort level.
The atmosphere of old days, helpful and friendly staff and great location.
It was a bit cold in the room and there was a slight smell of old walls everywhere. Hot water didn't last for long but generally the place was OK.
nice old building, great location, nice staff
totally overpriced, very small room without window, room could not be closed properly (window to the aisle kind of open), freezing cold, very simple breakfast, should not be more than 40 Euros
Very nice and kind owners, hotel close to the towncenter, clean and well maintained. Will visit again once.
Wlan was only available in the dining area but not in the rooms. No parking area dedicated to the hotel available.
Beautiful house, friendly people, fantastic breakfast, almost no noise from city even though centrally located, good bed, nice bathroom
The walls are thin so if you don't take care the neighbours can hear everything you are saying or doing. But if you want to stay in such a nice (old) place that is what you have to live with.
Situation Interior design Artefacts in the hotel
Lighting very poor Cockerel in the garden next door
The friendliness of the proprietor and the hotel location.
