The strip of neighbouring apartment blocks and the general area leave a lot to be desired. You can find lots of questionable tapas bars and eateries but you immediately lose the relaxing, almost hypnotic hotel ambiance (except for the Hollywood Bar- the only place we would recommend for food and drinks).
Only a couple of niggles- on our last day at breakfast we returned to our table loaded down with plates only to find they had given our table away ( we'd only been gone for five minutes!). No apologies from the brusque blonde in charge who had seated us, and an offer to put us in a people-less drab corner all by ourselves (we managed to get a better table in the end). Also the beach club service on our last day left a lot to be desired although we had such amazing service the other days. It did seem like there was a weird vibe on the last day overall! These are very minor niggles.Overall, it was an incredible experience.
From the moment you arrive til you leave you are made to feel special. It starts with a glass of cava on arrival that goes down well and ends with someone on hand to load your bags into your taxi when you leave. Every member of staff has a smile and a hello for you, even the ladies who clean your room are smiling and friendly and relaxed.
The beach club is great and we were happy to hang out at the beach all day although the indoor pool is fantastic too. Cocktails from the beach bar are delish and at €8 they are cheaper than the hotel bar and served right to your sun lounger. Another major highlight is the buffet breakfast which is included in the room price- fresh squeezed juice, eggs boiled, scrambled or fried, hashbrowns, toast and jams and marmalade and a mix of more continental offerings- croissants, pastries, hams, cheeses. Some more spanish style things- meatballs, fishy/cheesy croquettes. And lots of fresh fruits including pineapple, blood orange, kiwi and melon.
The hotel has a number of different places to eat- two restaurants, bar food is the same menu as room service, the beach club and a bar and grill next to the outdoor pool.
The atmosphere is very relaxed and for a five star luxury hotel you are not made to feel uneasy for not wearing head to toe Armani- very friendly but non-invasive staff, just the perfect balance. Even though you are in Spain you really feel like you are on some remote paradise island. We went for four nights as the room rate is quite expensive- but SO worth it.
