splendid warm-hearted hospitality
Our room was a junior suite room with a buth tub. The most inconvenience for us is that the room was dark, though housekeepers brought three additional lamps for us kindly. Extra 3 lamps were useful for us. Although I think that the merger between real Roman walls and modern posh interior design shows a good taste, we couldn't feel comfortable perfectly for relax in our room because of the space of room, the position of furniture and the darkness of the room. On the whole, however, this hotel has quite nice atmosphere and hospitality.
The Bed The Location
Poor lighting Average breakfast No atmosphere
Concierges were all very helpful and attentive. Gave excellent recommendations for where to eat dinner. Other staff very friendly and helpful. Hotel in excellent central location although down a very small, narrow side street so not easy to find at first. Taxi had real problems getting in/out.
Breakfast is NOT self-service for the cereals, pastries etc. Very odd having to request from staff what you want and then having to wait for them to bring it to you, especially when it is all laid out on display in breakfast room. Pillows far too soft, firmer ones were brought to room on request though (hence only "good" for comfort of bed above). Room very dark, lights few and far between so constantly moving around in a weird twilight even during the day.
Excellent location in the heart of the Gothic Quarter. Hotel was clean, quiet room with comfortable bed.Staff friendly helpful & obliging assisted with restaurant booking & onward flight confirmation & printed boarding passes.Would be very happy to stay there again on next visit to Barcelona
Access is by way of a narrow lane & some taxi drivers are unfamiliar with exact location. Take a map with you showing the location in case the taxi driver does not have a GPS
Staff were really helpful. A very interesting renovation of old structures
The approach road is very narrow and some tax drivers drop you off at the end of the street and you walk the rest of the way. We had a junior suite, the bedroom had a TV but the sitting area did not. Hence to watch TV you had to sit on the bed rather than the sofa in the sitting area. Only 2 menus in English so there was a que for a menu
Great Hotel, full of character and history! Excellent finishes & furniture but the best is for sure is the people who work there and the service they provide you! The F&B team are excellent but the girl who serves you breakfast to the staff in the bar and reception! The breakfast is superb, and no need for you to get up and go to the buffet table!! The concierges can not do enough for you. Whether it is to find you the restaurant, the entrance tickets you want or simply to give you the information needed to make you sure you have the best time in Barcelona! Thank you!
They could be a "bit" more generous with the toiletries provided,a bag with just 3 cotton pads for 3 nights is too little and when paying these rates, one does not expect to need to buy one's own! The location is quite tricky for the taxi drivers to get to but unfortunately their transfer services to and from the airport at Euro 200 are not an option since the cost of a normal taxi is between Euros 30 to 35!!
Everything from the location, accommodations and wonderful staff. Very relaxing visit
The hotel notified us of a problem with our room 2 days before our arrival but in terms of customer service and compensation they excelled in making up for the inconvenience of staying in another hotel for the first night. The alternative hotel was of equal standard and the Mercer arranged for the move between hotels at our leisure. We also found the Mercer to be ideally situated for exploration along the sea front, main shopping areas or to visit other city sites as there was a Metro was close by. We highly recommend this boutique hotel.
Pretty much everything at this amazing boutique hotel was perfect from the welcome glass of cava to the staffing, amenities, location, food, decor. Staying right in the heart of the old town was wonderful. We ate at the tapas bar and it was delicious.
Our only regret was that we only had one night at this hotel.
This is an excellent hotel, well positioned within the centre but off the tourist streets. We enjoyed the hotel very much, with great facilities, lovely rooftop pool and seating area, the most comfortable bed of our 2 months trip. Staff were excellent. Our room was quiet.
Wi Fi was very slow and at times failed in our room area, which was at the rear of the new rooms and likely due to very thick Roman walls. The lighting was excellent in the bathroom but not sufficient in the sleeping area with just a couple of upright lamps and low level bed lamps. Daylight was minimal through narrow windows. Made it difficult to pack in the dark and I left behind an item because I couldn't see well enough.
Room Quality service
A bit "smug" Very empty / no atmosphere price
beds, location, staff
nothing wrong here
The bed. The roof terrace
The ambience of the tapas bar. The food was fine
Modern. Luxurious. Clean.
Difficult kitchen for vegs.
It would be easier to state what we didn't like - NOTHING :)
Excellent welcome with concierge sitting down with us and explaining all the highlights of Barcelona and showing us how to get there on a map. Receptionist extremely helpful when we had an issue and had to print out and fax papers back to Australia. Beautiful hotel and in the old town. Very quiet at night.
Beautiful rooms and great service.
Hard to find. Cab had to call hotel.
Located in the historic Gothic district of Barcelona, the Mercer is possibly not the easiest hotel to get to in town, but is well worth the effort. On arrival you are greeted by warm and friendly staff who make it clear right from the outset that they are there to be of assistance, whatever your requirements. The Customer Service team, with special thanks to Guiermo (and with apologies if I have mangled the spelling of his name!) are extremely knowledgable and helpful. Our room was a treat and an exercise in good design and thoughtful execution. And the room amenities were first class. No evening was complete without a drink at the delightful roof top bar where star barman Danny could be relied upon for a great cocktail, including his special Negroni! And no review of the Mercer would be complete for us without mentioning their tapas restaurant. Without doubt the best and most imaginative tapas we have had in Spain...the sardine on filo with wasabe foam was to die for! And the foie gras with fig foam.... Staying at the Mercer was a great experience we would happily repeat.
The hotel was beautiful and in an excellent location. The staff went above and beyond. In particular, the concierge was extremely helpful and accommodating.
Friendliness of staff Superb decor Location Breakfast
A quiet little oasis in central location with a lovely aesthetic and warm boutique atmosphere. Staff is very helpful, friendly and had great recommendations.
Great location and brilliant friendly staff
Small details like petals on our bed for our wedding anniversary!!
No tea and coffee facilities in the room - minor point really
