Amazing views, comfortable clean room. Good room service. We loved Jaen.
Small things that annoyed me because it isn't a budget venue by any means! Appalling coffee at breakfast. Weird thing for Spain! Unstocked minibar and a hotel bar that was shut by 11pm. Vague feeling from the staff that you are intruding into their world, but they will do their best to tolerate you.
Great location, with fantastic views.great pool, again with great views. Friendly staff...
The location is absolutely stunning.
A little old-fashioned.
The amazing work to bring back to life the best of the past, The views of the montains and the city below. The restaurant lights, the ceiling of the coffee room are just magestic. We love all of it, well worth the visit, Jaen is the hidden gem
The ambience, location, scenic
Food - not value for money.... A little disappointing
The amazing atmosphere in the castle and the decor. The breakfast was outstanding.
It was hard to find the road up to the Parador and there was a lack of instructions on the booking form.
Better to drive by car up to the hill to reach the parador. The location is excellent to have a panoramic view on Jaen, especially the night view is very beautiful and impressive.
But food was terrible in all kinds of dishes we took. We were attracted by its outlook and decoration. Remember, don't oder lamb dish, it's tough and unchewable.
A lovely big room with a balcony overlooking mountains. The general ambiance of the Parador. Nice, generous sized ,thick, thick bath sheets. The location beautiful, especially the castle next door and you can walk to the cross late at night to see the view of the cathedral. Also beautiful gardens. Lots of places to sit, to have a drink or coffee. Jaen is a lovely city.It was a lovely 3 day trip.
The dining room. The staff were ok for the first 2 courses, then they started moving tables about. We eventually got them to bring us a sweet menu but they left it at that, did not come to see if we wanted to order. In the end we walked out and had coffee at the bar.We were not in there late, just after the dining room opened but it was more important to move the tables ready for the morning than to serve us. Also food odd, my husband had the most delicious turbot, 2 great steaks, with 3 clams and parsley sauce. That was it, on the English menu it said mashed potato but no potato mentioned on the spanish menu. No side orders to be had. I has roast lamb with jacket potato that turned out to be sauted potato. No vegetables to be had at all. It was delicious but a bit much, need some accompaniments. Only had one breakfast as we do not eat breakfast. It was very nice, lots of variety but again we ordered coffee, twice, it took so long it was cold and not very pleasant.
The view from the balcony is splendid. The room was spacious, well equipped and comfortable. The common areas are very nice. The staff was polite and friendly. The breakfast buffet had a broad choice of high quality cold and warm foods and drinks.
The wifi does not work in the rooms.
The amazing location, breathtaking views and historical atmosphere.
The rooms are a bit outdated, the bathrooms are old and moldy. the towels are old and rough and the swiming pool was closed (we stayed there in the beginning of May). Also breakfast is expensive (18 Euro p.p.).
Its like you are in a real castle. Awesome staff in reception, at the bar, in the restaurant. Kid friendly. Gorgeous vistas.
Swim pool not open in spring time.
loved the location and the structure of the building and layout
Bed awful( hard as a rock, even though I like firm beds this was too much),pillows awful, Mothers Day meal ...service extremely slow for the amount of customers(three tables either eating or waiting to be served, and another three having already finished their meal) being served and the late hour we arrived 3:30(waited half an hour for one entrée that was already fixed in the menu), food terrible, lots of quantity but poor quality and presentation. Have found that all the paradors in Andalucia visited have the same poor service and quality of food. It is a pity that the staff at the paradors do not know the meaning of tourism and service,we speak fluent Spanish and yet hard to find someone who can speak any English. Also no one is friendly at the reception or says hi or any kind of greeting at any time unless you specifically call their attention and make them answer your questions, same goes for the staff at restaurant or coffee shop
Amazing location and friendly staff.
Restaurant food not that great for type of hotel. Portions small.
unique atmosphere and design great location great views
Can't beat the view. Restaurant is very good, staff efficient and helpful.
Parking and dining can be crowded on weekends.
they provide a very nice breakfast without extra charge even though it was written 18euro for it when we booked. great atomosphere to stay
difficult to reach
We stayed one night in March 2014, during a warm week. We had not stayed in a Parador before. We loved the spectacular setting, the wonderful view from the balcony, & our amazing room. (As it was low season we paid a bit more and went for a better room than we would in high season. We were given a gem - Room 13, a superior double, called the De Gaulle room. It had a raised platform for the four poster bed(s), a lovely sofa and chairs, desk, fireplace (I think most rooms do) and enough space for a party, had we wished to host one! The bathroom had a bath and separate shower, plus 2 basins - surely the route to marital harmony?!)The historic styling of the room and the whole hotel was wonderful. The restaurant ambience, opulent medieval style decor and service were splendid. The gardens and pool area (pool closed til the summer) were also lovely. Strolling out at dawn and dusk to view the changing light on the castle itself and the town below were magical - and just next door, of course!
Not a dislike, but the restaurant food quality did not quite match the surroundings, though we ate well and the wines were good. Perhaps we chose too modestly from the menu.
If an experienced hotel traveller, I may well have issued "excellent" more freely, whatever, a very impressive hotel, selected as a restful overnight stay only. An easy to find with hassle free parking on site, hotel, with stunning panoramic views from it's high location As our final destination of a week duration drive tour this was a worthwhile opportunity to try a Parador having come from Malaga - Antequera - Seville - Cordoba and close to Granada as a further stop. Food excellent.
The location: can't be better.
The facilities were not very clean at all, and the suite smelled like sewage.
bit formal and lacking real atmosphere
The views were spectacular. The evening meal was excellent, good value and the service was brilliant
There could have been tea/coffee making facilities in the room
the building is a 1928 copy of a castle rooms large and excellent condition ,views from hotel excellent. Staff friendly and helpful good breakfast buffet. some way out of city but only a 10euro taxi ride. Played Elgar's pomp and circumstance (Land of Hope and Glory )at breakfast one morning I don't think it was for us.
Menu a bit limited but food excellent
There are many paradors in Spain, but hardly any have views as spectacularly as parador de jaen. You just want to sit in the balcony for hours and admire the scenery. The interior of the hotel is also beautiful. You really get the feeling that you are residing in a castle. Everything feels genuine. Even the door of the room has to be pushed open with a key. The restaurant was top-notch as was the breakfast. Make sure to have a walk around if you have the time.
It is really difficult to find something wrong with this hotel. Yes it is much more expensive than the other 4-star hotels, but the experience is also truly different. You don't come here for just sleeping somewhere for a night. One small criticism I would have is that you can hear people in the other rooms. This is not too bothering though. Anyway, finding negatives in parador de jaen is just being too picky.
Interesting reconstruction, magnificent views, restaurant both for breakfast and dinner has an excellent kitchen.
Isolated, which meant there was no experience of Jaen. The reception staff ignored guests - otherwise staff, were very helpful and attentive.
