When we arrived (at about 5pm) to check in, we couldn't get an answer. After calling, ringing the doorbell for 15 mins, we gave up. I called a few mins later from the street and an angry man picked up. We went back in and tried to check in, but he just kept telling us that we shouldn't have rung the doorbell and under no circumstances should we do so again. We explained that we had to get his attention to check into our room, but he was quite insistent. In the end he took us to our room and took our passports to copy - but he was rude, grumpy, unfriendly and not the welcome we had expected. We didn't let it spoil our experience though, especially when we saw the room. Would definitely go back despite him and maybe just to show him we're not scared.
The location was perfect - bang slap in the middle of the old town. The room was cheap so I didn't expect much from the facilities but was very happy with the clean, airy, room and a lovely little balcony that looked out over the rooftops of Girona.
