- nice and big room - great location - in the middle of the old town - the street where the hotel is located is very noisy, especially during the weekends, so if it`s hot and you are planning to open the windows you may have huuuge problem to sleep -very thin walls, you can hear all people around...I couldn`t sleep until 6am...

OK room. Excellent location, close to rail and to the city-tram, Tranvia, excellent restaurant 30 seconds away. The room was cold on arriving, I called the staff, it was heated in half an hour. No lift. Located on a very high 1. floor. Not for heavy suitcases!

Owner was friendly, room was clean and service was polite. Fantastic location, right in the middle of the beautiful old town. The room could have been a bit warmer - the radiators in the room and the bathroom both worked but were not super-hot. The room temperature was just about OK for us as we don't like a hot room but small children or elderly folk might have struggled. It was a very cold weekend in Bilbao with snow that is practically unheard of though so I can't complain too much.

Great location in the heart of Casco Viejo. Family operated, pleasant staff. Simple - no frills, but clean. Overall a great value for the location. Owner/operators speak no English. Might be difficult if you speak no Spanish or Basque at all.

Well situated in the old town, surrounded by bars and restaurants, even a traditional cider-house on the ground floor! Clean, comfortable and excellent value for money. Close to public transport. Reception unmanned almost all the time. You get a complete set of keys on arrival so no problem there but I did need to make an arrangement to pay the bill early to enable me to get away on time at the end of my stay. May only be an issue in the low season.

At the centre of the city, close to everything Well, you get for the price what you can expect for it. The area is a bit loud due to the neighbouring bars which wont make it easy to fall asleep, even less on the weekend

The location was really the only good thing about this place, located directly in the Casco Viejo. The bed sheets and towels were all clean too. First of all, our room smelled of stale smoke quite strongly, which wasn't very pleasant. Also, the shelf in the bathroom had marks where people had left cigarettes. Secondly, I slept on the side of the bed nearest the toilet and during the night could smell urine when facing towards the toilet. The bed itself was clean but not extremely comfortable. The bedroom needed a redecoration- it was quite old fashioned and the whole place had the feeling of being at my gran's house (not a very good thing). Also little details like no hair dryer in the room, no tea/coffee facilities make it harder to give it a good rating. We stayed in a place in Santander at the exact same price and the standard was much higher.

In a character building in the Bilbao old town - Caja vieja - and close to many attractions. Easy walking everywhere and public transport handy. Easy on the budget with a basic room. Nice tap water. Lots of interesting eateries nearby. Noisy probably because it is in an old building in the old part of town directly over some great night life! Could hear other guests quite a bit too. A couple of our party found the beds a bit lumpy. For me no tea making facility is a negative.

The location is great right in the middle of the old town with its narrow street full of bars an shops, the rooms are really good an very tidy for thee price. However the guy doesnt speak any english so a little spanish would help you, also does get a little noisy of a night but I think it adds to the atmosphere of the place

It's simple, no frills and in the heart of the old city. Just what you want for 40 euro a night. The old dude was friendly, not a screed of English though. But we got by alright. There are plenty of bars and cafes right around the multitude of corners beside the accommodation.

the location and the building. this is a lovely old building has the hotel has been refurbished in good style. you have your own keys to your room and pension entrance and main building entrance which gives you freedom to come and go as you please. the tv also had an english speaking channel which is unusual in bilbao. the couple in charge were very pleasant . i liked everything about this pension.

The location is good. The person in charge was kind. The room was ok for the money we've paid. Thin walls so it was a bit noisy inside and also noise comming from outside as it is in the city center and there are bars all around.

Fantastic location right in the old town with small balcony overlooking the streets. Easy to access via tram system. Small room but clean, beds comfortable. 100euro for 2 of us, two nights, can't grumble!! The older gentleman who was manning the desk on departure was wanting us only to pay in cash, with no advance warning -we persevered and eventually we able to pay by credit card.

The location of Pension Mendez II was absolutely second to none, right in the heart of the old town and spitting distance from an array of restaurants, bars and cafes. Our room benefited from a balcony which enabled us to enjoy the atmosphere of the Aste Nagusia festival. The tram stop was only 5 mins walk, and Plaza Nueva was similarly close. There was no lift, so we had to use the stairs to bring our luggage up, thankfully it was only one flight!

Rooms are nice, localisation in the old town is convenient, easy to walk around and get by tram or metro to other parts of the city. TV and wi-fi work well. No breakfast included (fortunately there are a few bars around). Late at night there is a lot of noise from the bars in the street - people are active very late and talk loundly in the streets. There is no air-conditioning so you have to open a window and then the noise comes in. The rooms are nice but the main hall of the building needs renovations - old, dirty walls and simple light give an unpleasand first impression.

This small hotel certainly offers value for money and is very central to the old city (Casco Vieja) of Bilbao. While the room was not exceptionally large, there was plenty of space for us and the hotel was keep very clean throughout our stay. That said, the bathroom was very tiny and could pose a bit of a problem for some people. The owners are lovely however it is advisable to at least have a grasp of some travel Spanish to communicate with them. We would definitely consider staying here again. One of the drawbacks of the hotel's location so close to the old city is its position just above a bar. We had a room that faced on to the street and the noise (not to mention cigarette smoke wafting up through our window) could get a bit irritating. That said, it did quieten down considerably after about midnight/1am so it was possible to get a decent night's rest. There are heavy shutters on the windows so you can block out almost all of the noise but without airconditioning this can make the room a bit stuffy. The walls are also a bit thin so be wary of noisy neighbours! If you are considering staying here, our tip would be to ask for a room that does not face out on to the street.
