Petit Palace Arana BilbaoBidebarrieta, 2, 48005 Bilbao (Show map) Good, Score from 477 reviews“This hotel was nice and modern, but set within a lovely old building. The reception staff were brilliantly helpful, and patient with our slow Spanish. The location is great for the old town and the theatre (and tourist info office there) and the centre of Bilbao is small enough to walk around.”

Great location, very clean, good value and good breakfast When I booked I did not select the Petit room, but rather the slightly more expensive bigger one. However, they gave me a petit room and tried to convince me thats that what I had booked. Also the shower was broken and there was no trouser press in the room as advertised.

Very good - nice rooms, very clean, efficient - and a great welcome for small dogs, no extra charge. Very annoying that we were unable to check in with all our bags on arrival, having left our passports in the parking multi-storey; we had been travelling for 2 days, wanted to dump our bags in a room, wash, then go get the passports. Not allowed. Is that the law? We were leaving our baggage so unlikely to vanish.

Our first slight disappointment with Petit Palace. The staff were very welcoming but the room was a little small, particularly the bathroom, in which the shower area was quite shabby. The breakfast was of the extpected standard and in a quaint upstairs room even if headroom was limited due to the attractive beams. The location was perfect with close proximity to the train station and a tram stop plus evening eating/drinking and the scenic river. I am reluctant to critisicse this hotel as we were made to feel very welcome, but the room safe did not work (and we are experienced with this type of safe from last and this year) and, desite reporting this, nothing was done about it.

The location of the hotel is fantastic; close to the river and at the heart of the Arenal (the old town). It's a stone's throw from the Catedral de Santiago and the hotel itself is in a beautiful old building. Furthermore, it's only a 20 min walk along the river to the Guggenheim. We made the faux pas of booking right in the middle of the Aste Nagusia (Bilbao's annual week-long festival)—the hotel is located right at the heart of the festivities which is potentially great if you’re up for a party, but not so good if you're hoping to get any sleep. There is live rock music playing on the hotel’s doorstep well into the early hours of the morning (at least until 3am). The hotel is part of a chain called 'High Tech Hotels' whose decor tries to be ultra-modern and trendy. Sadly, while the room we stayed in may have been modern and trendy in the '90's, it is now tired, grubby, and very much in need of some TLC. The bed was on a platform raised about 4ft from the floor which had a metal bannister (presumably to stop you from falling off) running around it—unfortunately the bannister itself was falling off and frankly hazardous. The carpet on the platform was really grubby and stained—I’m not sure if it was because of its age or through lack of cleaning—as was the wall to one side of the bed. The room itself had the potential to be lovely with a great big window overlooking the Teatro Arriaga but with its dark purple ceiling, enormous platform (covered in black/white checked carpet) and its dark furniture—it ended up being just dark, dismal and stuffy. A real shame!

The location is perfect for shopping and strolling around in the old town center. Staff was very helpfull and friendly, breakfast also very good. There is either no parking area close to the hotel , nor a possibilty just for putting luggage in the car! A public garage is in walking distance of around 10 min. Walk to Guggenheim Museum lasts around 30 min. The door to bathroom and toilet is not totally to close, there is just a glass-door...

The hotel is placed in the heart of Bilbao, perfect location. The shower. Difficult to use and not made for people under 1.8 m. Why the exercise bike in the room?

Great location on the edge of the old town. Easy parking in a garage. Good access to Guggenheim Museum - although a short drive or a very long walk was in order....

The hotel is in an excellent location and good hearty breakfast. Room design is not to my taste as it's confusing with an exercising bike taking up the precious space. Room interior decor is tired and dated, the theme should be on comfort and home environment as it ‘s an extremely old building. The bathroom basin is tiny and water will spill on the floor and half the water outlets on the hydro spray shower are not work and the controls were difficult to operate. We enjoyed the three- day visit to Bilbao and the young hotel staffs are helpful.

The hotel is very charming - an old building fully renewed inside, but with old parts of the building still to be seen. The staff was very friendly and helpful and spoke fluently english. The parking facility is 5 minutes away from the hotel.

Fantastic location, especially for enjoying the fiesta and fireworks - which we could see from our balcony window. One of the only places in Bilbao I could find with a room to accommodate our family of three small children. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Bizarre bathroom door, made of glass (although not see through) and without a lock. Not fantastic for privacy when there are five people in a room!

The hotel was well situated - at the corner of the old town - and was a very good place to see a great deal of the carnival, it was carnival week. The staff were friendly and helpful and the rooms and public areas were clean. The wifi connection was adequate for web browsing and checking emails. Lots of restaurants nearby so eating was no problem. The wifi connection was too slow to stream and the laminate floors meant that it was noisy. My room 512 was facing a brick wall but I had asked for a quiet room and this did avoid the worst of the carnival noise which does go on all night - be warned! Unfortunately as the breakfast room etc. are on the sixth floor, which is again laminate, the noise of feet on laminate floor did start early. The furniture, especially in the lobby, was slightly shabby and the metal-framed single beds pushed together seemed to drift apart and were not that comfortable but it is a 3 star only.
