Petit Palace Arana Bilbao    

Excellent location, great value for money, helpful staff. Second visit and I was not disappointed.

Good quality accommodation, with an en suite bathroom. Television and PC were provided. Large bed. Clean and relatively quiet - our room on the 3rd floor faced away from the main street, overlooking a pedestrian area. Good range of food for breakfast.

Television was limited to Spanish channels alone - no French channels even though Bilbao is on the border. PC failed to connect to Yahoo.com to check email and it seems there might be issues with temporary passwords issued by the desk as I heard one guest trying to decipher what he needed to do. Coffee at breakfast came from a self-service machine and was predictably ordinary. Biggest problem was the lack of any space outside the hotel to stop and unload from our car. We ended up driving round in circles on trying to get back to the hotel and find a place to park, but without success. We eventually parked in a large underground car park some 150m away, only to be told by the receptionist that we should have ignored a No Entry sign next to the hotel and parked there. As a result, we ended up paying €17 for 24 hours parking instead of €12 if we had known where to stop and had been given the hotel voucher to use in the public car park. I had emailed the hotel to ask for advice on how to park and had simply been told to come to the hotel first. In short, if it's your first visit and you're travelling by car be prepared for a nightmare finding a place to stop near the hotel to unload. We were travelling light so we didn't have much luggage to carry from the car park to the hotel but anyone with heavy luggage or less able would encounter problems. The hotel should really issue very clear instructions on where to stop and explain that the No Entry sign can be ignored and a car can enter what is clearly a pedestrian area next to the hotel. A real pity that no one in the staff saw fit to tell us when we asked well beforehand for their advice. In the lift, which is split - one lift goes to the first floor and a second then goes to the remaining five floors - there was an advertisement saying food was available 24 hours in the 6th floor lounge.

Hmmm - I am critical but say the following in the interest of improvement. Fake wood floors - makes more noise than needed. High Tech hotel with no bbc world service or cnn or any English language tv. Computer needed to be repaired - twice. Wood around sinks - not a good idea. Hook for dressing gown in bathroom would be good. Does anyone really use the exercise machine which takes up so much room?

- Literally nothing else: - poor value for money, i.e. 105 EUR/night, no breakfast or parking. It's certainly too much for these conditions - room is extremely small for 3 people, would be ok for 1 - there were 3 beds and space for one suitcase. We literally didn't know where to put the 2nd (rather small suitcase). There were no free floor space at all! - It was impossible to shut the door to the bathroom, total lack of privacy - Very fancy shower cabin, but none of of the options was working - wooden table around the sink was rotten through! - No sound-proofing at all, you can clearly hear what people next door are talking about

A very friendly, smart hotel in an excellent location. Located in the old town but within walking distance of the main shopping centre and only a short tram journey to the Guggenheim. Well located to hop onto a tram or the underground. Great Breakfasts and helpful staff

The location was superb right in the centre of the City and on the edge of the old town. The price for a quad room was good too.

We have previously stayed in the Petit Palace Gran Via in Madrid and it is for this reason we chose to stay in the Petit Palace Arana Bilbao due to us being able to have a family room. The only down side was that the room was smaller than that in Madrid and the bathroom, although more than adequate, was smaller. Also, there was no laptop in the room which was an added bonus in Madrid.

1) The receptionists are nice, friendly & cooperative. 2) The room service is excellent.

1) There were no tissues boxes in the room (I don't mean toilet paper). 2) One case happened to me; I tried the coffee machine but it was not working.. I talked to the receptionist but he\she told me: the machine is not the hotel property so you have to call its company (yourself) in order to retake your money back.

The location was excellent and the idea of having free use of bicycles was great.

I didn't feel I got value for money. The decor is very tired and although the rooms were clean, i didn't get a sense i was staying anywhere special once in the room. Not having a kettle for a hot drink in the room was disappointing. The parking was close and it was reassuring, however, i did request i would need parking when i booked and was at least expecting a reduction or concession when i found out the allocated parking for the hotel was full. The shower didn't work properly and there was mould and dust in corners and it just felt a bit grubby. A hotel should be immaculate. The rooms looked a lot better on the website!!

We found it quite noisey could hear people snoring, walking around in rooms surrounding ours.

The room decoration was tired. The bathroom was quite dirty. There was mould on the ceiling and loose tiles in the shower. The walls were chipped. The view out of the window was a dirty area in the centre of the building. Most unattractive.

Very noisy Every floor creaked, breakfast was not great, no tea/coffee facilities in the room, bathroom door and wall was all glass no privacy, no drawer storage for tshirts etc, No information given on times of bars / restaurant opening and closing.. For anyone thinking of visiting Bilbao brush up on your Spanish as not a lot of people speak English...

Excellently located and very comfortable bed.

The floorboards in the hallways are incredibly noisy so the sound of the other guests walking woke us up in the mornings. A minor gripe but could do with a better selection of television channels - we had to make do with CNN the whole time.
