The main problem was cleanliness and general maintenance. Although I can't say it was dirty, but certainly not up to a standard of a 4* hotel. Carpet in front of the lift on my floor was always covered by some kind of crumbs When I checked in to my room I noticed that the bath tub was not cleaned properly and a few mold stains at the edges certainly didn't add up to the whole impression. Drain in the sink was almost fully blocked all the time and sometime the same happened with the bath tub (I didn't complain though). No toilette brush? Why? Bathroom was cleaned every day and towels were replaced on a daily basis. I was there for 3 days and I think the room floor (parquet) was cleaned only once. I noticed because I brought some sand in my shoes and there it laid on the floor for 2 whole days. Trash basket was not once emptied. In the room there were no brochures about hotel's facilities and services, or about the neighborhood or the city itself. I did get a Barcelona map at the check in though. For me, those are not big complaints, but I thought somebody will find it useful.
I got an excellent rate (dirt cheap for Barcelona standards) so all together I was very happy with my choice of the hotel. If I had to pay their usual rate I would be less enthusiastic. For that price, I would book it again. To sum it up, this is not a 4* hotel, but if you get a good deal and want to be close to the beach, go for it.
Excellent location, if you're looking for a proximity to the beach. Mar Bella and Bogatell beaches are just across the street. Quick access to the city centre by metro or bus, taxi stop right outside the hotel (cca €10 to Placa de Catalunya). Poblenou is a pleasant and interesting neighborhood with many restaurants and bars where you can eat much cheaper than in the city centre. My room was spacious, quiet, with good WiFi, side view to the sea and a very, very comfortable big double bed. Good sized bathroom. Limited choice in the mini bar, but prices were reasonable (although you can get a can of beer, or anything else, in the near by Mercat de Poblenou for 1/4 of the price - but that's expected). Room safe had no instructions, but as they are almost the same in every hotel, I managed. Receptionists were all efficient and friendly. Didn't took the breakfast - I think €15 is too much, especially when you have so many choices to eat in nearby bars and restaurants (go to Rambla del Poblenou). It was a small hustle to reach the hotel from the airport using Aerobus and metro so if you have big luggage (which I didn't) just take the taxi. I used the Aerobus to Placa Espanya, from there took the L1 metro to Urquinaona stop where I switched to L3 line to Poblenou stop from where it is a 10 min walk to the hotel. The hotel can book you for a shuttle van back to the airport for €9 which was very convenient, fast and much cheaper than the usual €30 or so for a taxi.
