We were happy only for Rey Don Jaime's location. Nothing else. The staff was very rude wtih us, and they were making laugh of us, with no reason while we were trying to communicate with them. This is unacceptable, and we are very unpleased. Also they didn't speak english, and they are a tourist hotel.

The location was the main thing we liked, but the price was also very good. We were very pleased that we had a balcony as requested in our booking. No remote control for tv. Shower leaked on floor. No tea/coffee making facilities.

Nothing wrong with the service minded staff, room was clean as well the bathroom. I spent quite some time for the hotelsearch in Barcelona and ended up at Rey Don Jaime I. I read referenses before I booked and understood that it'd be a noisy place. I therefore took ear plugs (eps) with me. The single rooms face the street and if you're a light sleeper, don't choose this hostal. Without the eps my stay would have been a disaster. Even the eps deep in my ears I'd hear the cars passing by and the screeming fools on the street till 7am. On Saturday and Sunday morning between 7am and 9am it was fairly quiet, so I slept back and forth 4-5 hours/night. I'll never choose this hostal again eventhough everything else was neat. On the other hand I won't return to Barcelona either because I've seen what's to be seen.

Location is very good if you wnat to spend a lot of time in the old part of the city, close to underground station. Could be better. Small room, smell is not very plesant, but not that awful, dark room, poor light. No additional blanket and no heating. I was in november and had to cover with my coat not to get cold. Bathroomm is too small.

Location is excellent, very cultural, and next to a metro station. The room however was beautiful, high ceiling with a painting on it, lots of space in the room despite of the 4 beds. Bathroom and toilet were quite clean. Hotel room was on the first floor, next to a lounge with noisy people until very late in the evening. Insulation is worth nothing, in bed it is like trying to sleep in a bed on the middle of La Rambla, so noisy even with all the windows closed. So the sensation was like dolby surround, noise coming from everywhere until very late in the night. The beds were poor, matrasses were too soft so not very comfortable. Staff: one was very friendly, another one ok, but didn't seem very happy, and the third one wasn't friendly at all and didn't speak English.

The staff was friendly and helpful. The location is superb--right in the old city, very close to excellent restaurants. Close to the university where I had my conference. Very noisy area with partiers far into the night. My recommendation for the hotel would be to install double paned windows to help reduce the street noise.

Good location, decent price (you pay for what you get) and okay rooms. If you're looking for a cheap place to just sleep and freshen up, I can really recommend this hotel. If you're looking for a more comfortable place, look elsewhere. For me, travelling is experiencing the place you're at, not staying at your hotel all the time, and this place was the best we could get for our needs. Showers could need a little more work on, other than that, nothing to complain on.

The location is very good and the hotel was cheap. My tv didnt work, my room was in the building accross the road from the main hotel so had no reception area. The light on the stairs was very poor so you couldnt see all the steps and it was a bit creepy for a girl staying on her own. I wouldnt stay again on my own for those reasons.

Very close to Placa Catalunia. If you are in your room you couldn't connect to the Internet through wi- fi, because it works only at the recepcetion.

The only thing that was o.k,was the fact that it was near la rambla and other city sightseeings. If you can afford it try another hotel,it was the worst hotel i've ever stayed.

Room cleanliness - rooms were cleaned on a daily basis w/out interfering with our schedule. large bed, all needed facilities. Very nice position within the city, with fast access to metro, beach, terraces and local-markets. Friendly, English speaking staff. Actually, I did not like the size of the room, extremely small, all though I`ve acquired Superior Double Room. Room was poorly positioned in the Hotel Annex across the street from the hotel. It had a barred-jail-like window positioned in an internal staircase -> very little fresh air came-in.

“Good room and excellent bathroom both basic but very clean and serviced every day. Lounge/computer/TV room and coffee machines if required so perfect for our city break as we were out most of the time. Close to many bars and eateries and a sort walk to the tourist bus routes. We would certainly use this Hostal if we came back to Barcelona.” Hilary, Preston |
