Hotel Barcelona Universal  

This hotel was a surprise for us. It is beautiful. The rooms are beautiful. The staff was amazing from beginning to end. We highly recommend it and will tell all of our friends. After staying at the Hotel Continental on our return to Barcelona on the way back from our cruise we are sorely disappointed that we did not cancel the Continental and stay at the Universal again. Lovely! Kudo's to the staff for going above and beyond. A special call out to the poor guy who had to show us how the lights worked in the room. ( Card in slot by door?) We felt foolish but he laughed with us and not at us. We hope ;)

The hotel location is excellent within walking distance to the Rambles and other tourist attractions, it is situated on a very busy street but having rooms on the 6th floor and at the rear of the hotel (618 and 619) there was no street noise, the rooms were superb with huge comfortable beds, lovely bathroom with full sized bath and powerfull shower, plenty of free bath products and good sized towels changed daily. The view from the rooftop is fantastic and the seating area and pool is great, the staff could not be more helpful and polite. Hotel was kept very clean, the decor very modern.

Could not fault hotel only thing was the breakfast, we only stayed for 4 nights but there were no changes in choice of food, but it was cooked and presented well.

This is the 2nd time I have stayed at the hotel and will not hesitate to return when I come to Barcelona. Many thanks Sincere regards Jill

I stayed in room 416 and the only fault was that there was no plus socket in the bathroom. But this would not stop me from returning. Kind regards Jill

Had a small problem regarding my booking.com. Was informed that I had 4 rooms booked and not 3. Pablo the Manager, managed to sort out problem to my satisfaction. He was terrific, and also organised our airport transfers. We booked so many rooms, that Pablo upgraded us to a suite for the last night. A great treat. Would definitely stay again. Thanks Pablo

Staff in Restaurant, tried to stop us entering for breakfast at 10.50am, even though, breafast did not finish until 11.00 am. This also happened to other people on our last day.

Room was clean and location good

Room had no windows or view - Staff were a bit sullen - quite a bit of noise in the hotel during the night

Very good location, near to the centre and conveniently located for public transport, very helpful staff who would try to resolve promptly any queries, excellent food both at breakfast and in the evening nice and clean room, quiet having had a room at the back of the hotel, also nice to have a balcony we have had a very nice stay and would clearly recommend this hotel and its restaurant

We would have liked to have coffee and tea making facilities in the room

Great location, helpful staff, awesome breakfast. A subway station was right in front of the hotel, which was nice when it was raining.

Ideal location , only 10 minutes to Las Rambla

Firstly the Staff who were always polite, friendly and helpfull. They also shamed this Brit by speaking 2 or 3 languages with ease. Price was very competitive and good value for money. The roof top gym and solarium was nice place to spend a morning, and terrific city views from there. Good location, walk 10 minutes to Port and La Rambla

Hotel seemed noisy at night. Rooms could be sound-proofed better.

Very nice room concernin space and cleanness.

The staff were fast and efficient, nothing was too much trouble for them. Though there was a lot of smiling and enquiring about my stay from the staff, I was delighted that all my requests for service were met with 'no problem' . Give me service over smile any day.

Room was a little small and short on luxury for 4 star. Breakfast was a little less than I would expect from 4 star. But bothm were adequate and no worth bothering too much about.

Great hotel, new, clean, very friendly staf, excelent location with metro station 5 meters away from the front door. Close to the old city center and Ramblas. Lots os restaurants and litle markets around. Room and bathroom very big. I recomend this hotel and would definetly stay here again!

The only thing that could be improoved is the minibar, cause they did not put more waters, for example, inside, only if you asked.
