Location was excellent and the building was fantastic, but needed a lot of decoration work. Despite the cold weather, the room was always cold. One staff member told me that the heat would be provided between 7pm and 2 am !! Since I was not happy, the hotel provided an electric heater. Except the reception staff and room maids, we found the staff cold/distant. We were told that the hotel bar was closed at 8pm and asked to leave the bar. But the barman served a friend or two and continued to chat with them in the bar!! I cannot classify this hotel as 4-Star establishment...

Very quiet, excellent breakfast, right next to the Cathedral inside the city walls, very close to restaurants, cafes and bars, large bathroom with large bathtub, great seating/living room areas downstairs, staff spoke good english. And, it is just exciting to stay in a 15th century palace of a bishop. We really enjoyed our stay! The plumbing is probably very old, which is understandable in a 15th century building, so at times the bathroom was a little smelly. Also, the water was a little brown when filling the bathtub, so it is certainly not drinkable.

Great location. Imposing building. Spacious room and bathroom. Quiet (carpetted). Good breakfast buffet. Charmingly dated. Heating was struggling a bit in the cold weather.

Very central and great value for money. Not the poshest hotel in the world but was quaint and very spacious, perfect for a cheap weekend away and as a base to explore Avila.

Excellent location. The hotel has a certain grandeur. The dining room is in the basement. No natural light and the room itself needs a bit of restoration.

The hotel was very spacious and elegantly appointed; the summer price is vastly higher! Reception staff were excellent and courteous. The room was weel appointed but the air-condioning did not work - which was pointed out to the hotel via their own quality questionnaire. The hotel's location next to the cathedral was excellent for exploring Avila. We ate an evening meal in the hotel whose dining room was a little lacklustre and the waiter seemed relative disinterested in assisting one to understand the english equivalents of the food on offer (I speak enough spanish to easily get by in conversation) and he smelt badly of bo! Our bad luck I suppose.

Excellent and most helpful woman at reception in the evening who really did help. I was meeting my son who had been attending a conference and she helped us plan two days of activities. A trip to Salamanca and a day in the mountains walking and seeing eagles and ibex! Help with car hire, walking the city walls and generally making us feel most welcome. I am sorry that I do not know her name! The noise in the street outside our bedroom window when the dustbins were emptied in the middle of the night!

Good location and not bad for the price. A bit tacky as the furnishings were old but not because they were medieval. Pretty noisy too, but that was mainly because next door there were renovations going on.

This is the second time we have stayed at the hotel which is in an ideal location for visiting Avila, being located just inside the town walls and right next to the cathedral - with all the town's attractions within easy walking distance. The Tourist Information Office is very close with access to the town walls inside.

This place is really special,if you can find it.It is next to the Cathedral which dates from the 10th Century. The building is 14th Century with some really interesting features. Our room,127 covered about a third of an acre. The bed seemed to be the original and the bath water was brown, but it just added to the charm. It was dog friendly with no extra charge, and parking was nearby at 10 euros extra. There are other places within the walled old town, which looked good, but we would come back here for certain. If you have never been to Avila you have a real treat to come.

I liked that the location was very close to everything inside the city walls and also to the outside city. The rooms were extremely clean and the staff very helpful. The bed was very hard - our friends staying next door said the same so I think it may be something across the hotel.

Wonderful old building with spacious salons and stupendous breakfasts. The location next to the Cathedral could not have been better, yet there is something rather sterile about the plaza itself. A strange musty smell on floor 1 — like stale smoke although it might have been something else. There were building works right outside the bedroom, and these started up early.

The location was incredible - right on Plaza de la Catedral. We didn't use any form of transport during our stay besides a eur7 taxi to and from the train station and the ancient mode of getting places- our feet. From the hotel we could reach busy restaurants, designer stores, the ancient walls, churches and majestic views within minutes. We had a brilliant double room on the second floor with a window looking onto the plaza. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable. Although the decor may be described as old-fashioned I preferred to see it as simple and authentic, adding to the romantic experience of the ancient city. The elevator was a bonus after a long day of walking and to get our luggage upstairs. Staff were friendly and helpful. Serious value for money.

The location was great. It was right next to the cathedral inside the city walls. Again- air conditioning didn't work (ghastly hot) and never a pool at any hotel in Spain. Not much nightlife or stores. Someone needs to get into Avila and create a better tourist situation. After you've seen the wall and the cathedral, you're basically done!

Handy location within the city walls and proximity to Avila Cathedral Hotel service rather poor - not helpful and no packed breakfast when we had to leave early in the morning before the restaurant opened.
