Four things: 1) Cleanliness of the first room was terrible and after we complained we were moved to a very large room (suite?) down the hall that was cleaner. A very helpful gentleman at the front desk came to the room and agreed with my assessment, and he was very professional in trying to make up for it. Hotel mgt should take a day or two and inspect all of the rooms before assigning them to guests. There is no excuse for rooms that are not cleaned between guests and that includes the walls. If they are dirty, clean them or paint them. 2) Location of the hotel is right on the highway below the beautiful town of LaGuardia but to get to town you have to walk along an unpleasant roadway. Not the hotel's fault but it is not an appealing walk. 3) Pool area was full of babies, one reason for booking this hotel was the pool since it was so hot the 4 days we were there but it was not a pleasant pool. Seems crazy that adults have to shower to enter the pool but there were many babies in diapers in the pool. Pool abuts the main road with a separation of just a hedge so you can hear the road traffic only a few feet from your head, it's very odd. Access to the pool is either around the back of the building through the spa or through the restaurant or lobby but without an adequate walkway. Very strange approach to the pool. 4) We received 3 bottles of wine as part of the wine package yet the woman at the front desk wouldn't give me a corkscrew to open the wine without a deposit. That is just unprofessional service, if you're going to offer a wine package then you need to give your guests a way to open the wine. Some of these issues could be easily fixed and it's disappointing to see that hotel mgt isn't making more changes to improve the property.
This is not a 4-star hotel, we were disappointed and didn't like many things about it other than: breakfast buffet was very good, there is adequate parking on site, wi fi worked well, second room (suite?) was very nice, and the bathroom was large.
