Excellent,
Score from 434 reviews
“ The beds were very comfortable; linens (bed and bath) were extraordinarily nice; bath was very nice. Location is great for upscale shopping and not too far a cab ride from either the train station or the airport. However it is not in the "old Madrid" area and there are very few restaurants in the area! ”

2 mins from El Retiro Undreground stop. Excellent Location directly across from the beautiful Parque de El Retiro. 10 mins walk to the Prado Art Gallery. City bus tour stops directly outside hotel. Reception staff were stuffy middle aged men in their 50's who lacked warmth and charm. Breakfast was only average and overpriced at €27.50.

Great location in easy reach of Madrid's cultural and commercial districts; well sized and comfortable rooms; pleasant staff. A little dated interior; high priced breakfast.

The beds were very comfortable; linens (bed and bath) were extraordinarily nice; bath was very nice. Location is great for upscale shopping and not too far a cab ride from either the train station or the airport. However it is not in the "old Madrid" area and there are very few restaurants in the area! One wing of the hotel has been remodeled and one wing (the one we stayed in) is desperately in need of remodeling in the hallway. The room was updated and clean and comfortable. However, the hallway walk to get to our room made me feel like we were staying in the "pauper's wing" -- certainly not 4 or 5 star -- more like 2 star. The hallway smelled, wallpaper was peeling and dingy, ceiling tiles (the old asbestos type) had terrible water damage, and the carpeting was threadbare. The view from the window of the "poor" side" was poor (we looked out on the mechanical works of other buildings and the laundry of apartment tenants). I wondered, as we departed, if Booking.com guests were automatically given the "old" side? It is worth asking (in the comment section) for a room on the renovated side. However, all in all, if you can overlook the really crummy hallway, our room was comfortable and luxurious and the staff was very helpful.

The location; courteous staff. La ubicación; la cortesía del personal. The room, especially for being a five-star hotel, was not very clean. La habitación, especialmente tratándose de un hotel de cinco estrellas, no estaba muy limpia.

This was our second visit to Madrid and we had no hesitation in rebooking the Wellington. From the front door to the rooms the service provided is excellent. The location is superb for easy access to the museums, park and city centre. We return in September and will rebook the Wellington. Enough said!

Opulent rooms with every essential catered for. The size of the brandys in the bar. Room service breakfast was a bit weird. Cooked breakfast involved everything scrambled together in a hash type affair which wasn't what I expected or very nice.

Wonderful location and old world charm. We had an individual in a wheelchair and there is no ramps or handicap entrance available. The person had to get out of the wheelchair and go up or be carried up six stairs and have the wheelchair then hauled up as well. However, the bathroom and other aspects related to handicap accessibility once in the room were wonderful.

Splendid Building ideally situated for exploring Madrid. The Spa area is compact but good quality. The pool area is enclosed by private apartments which restricts the amount of sunshine

The location It's an old place that really needs a serious renovation. Besides that: the room rates vary per day and are not in line with the rate as booked here. There is no transparency on how the rates are set, left us with a very unpleasant, uncomfortable feeling. We will not return here.

The only issue I had with this hotel was the bed linen. I stayed during an unusually hot and humid couple of days. The room airconditioning does not get cold enough to disipate the humidity and the type linen the Wellington uses became very moist. It was uncomfortable to try and sleep in. The location was perfect and the doormen where extremely helpful. Bed linen (becomes to moistif it is humid)
